JONAS RETTUNG

1 Der HERR aber schickte einen großen Fisch, dass er Jona verschlinge. Jona war drei Tage und drei Nächte im Bauch des Fisches. (Mt 12,40) 

2 Da betete Jona zum HERRN, seinem Gott, aus dem Inneren des Fisches heraus: 

3 In meiner Not rief ich zum HERRN / und er erhörte mich. Aus dem Leib der Unterwelt schrie ich um Hilfe / und du hörtest meine Stimme. (Ps 18,7; Ps 118,5; Ps 120,1; Ps 130,1; Kla 3,55) 

4 Du hast mich in die Tiefe geworfen, in das Herz der Meere; / mich umschlossen die Fluten, all deine Wellen und Wogen / schlugen über mir zusammen. (Ps 42,8) 

5 Ich sagte: Ich bin verstoßen / aus deiner Nähe. Wie kann ich jemals wiedersehen / deinen heiligen Tempel? (Ps 5,8; Ps 27,4; Ps 31,23) 

6 Das Wasser reichte mir bis an die Kehle, / die Urflut umschloss mich; Schilfgras umschlang meinen Kopf. / (Ps 69,2) 

7 Bis zu den Wurzeln der Berge bin ich hinabgestiegen in das Land, / dessen Riegel hinter mir geschlossen waren auf ewig. Doch du holtest mich lebendig aus dem Grab herauf, / HERR, mein Gott. (Ps 9,14; Ps 16,10; Ps 30,4; Ps 40,3) 

8 Als meine Seele in mir verzagte, / gedachte ich des HERRN und mein Gebet drang zu dir, / zu deinem heiligen Tempel. (Ps 18,7; Ps 20,3) 

9 Die nichtige Götzen verehren, / verlassen den, der ihnen Gutes tut. (Ps 31,7) 

10 Ich aber will dir opfern / und laut dein Lob verkünden. Was ich gelobt habe, will ich erfüllen. / Vom HERRN kommt die Rettung. (Ps 22,26; Ps 116,17) 

11 Da befahl der HERR dem Fisch und dieser spie den Jona an Land. (Ps 18,17)

1 From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the LORD his God. 

2 He said, ‘When I was in trouble, I called out to the LORD. And he answered me. When I was deep in the place of the dead, I called out for help. And you listened to my cry. 

3 You threw me deep into the Mediterranean Sea. I was deep down in its waters. They were all around me. All your rolling waves were sweeping over me. 

4 I said, “I have been driven away from you. But I will look again towards your holy temple in Jerusalem.” 

5 I had almost drowned in the waves. The deep waters were all around me. Seaweed was wrapped around my head. 

6 I sank down to the bottom of the mountains. I thought I had died and gone down into the grave for ever. But you are the LORD my God. You brought my life up from the very edge of the pit of death. 

7 ‘When my life was nearly over, I remembered you, LORD. My prayer rose up to you. It reached you in your holy temple in heaven. 

8 ‘Some people worship the worthless statues of their gods. They turn away from God’s love for them. 

9 But I will sacrifice a thank-offering to you. And I will shout with thankful praise. I will do what I have promised. I will say, “LORD, you are the one who saves.” ’ 

10 The LORD gave the fish a command. And it spat Jonah up onto dry land.
