Lobpreis für Gottes Erbarmen und Kraft

3 Gepriesen sei der Gott und Vater unseres Herrn Jesus Christus: Er hat uns in seinem großen Erbarmen neu gezeugt zu einer lebendigen Hoffnung durch die Auferstehung Jesu Christi von den Toten, (Joh 3,3; 2Kor 1,3; Eph 1,3; 1Petr 1,23)

4 zu einem unzerstörbaren, makellosen und unvergänglichen Erbe, das im Himmel für euch aufbewahrt ist. (Röm 8,17; 1Petr 3,7) 5 Gottes Kraft behütet euch durch den Glauben, damit ihr die Rettung erlangt, die am Ende der Zeit offenbart werden soll. 6 Deshalb seid ihr voll Freude, wenn es für kurze Zeit jetzt sein muss, dass ihr durch mancherlei Prüfungen betrübt werdet. (Jak 1,2; 1Petr 4,12) 7 Dadurch soll sich eure Standfestigkeit im Glauben, der kostbarer ist als Gold, das im Feuer geprüft wurde und doch vergänglich ist, herausstellen - zu Lob, Herrlichkeit und Ehre bei der Offenbarung Jesu Christi. (Jak 1,3; Weis 3,6; Sir 2,5) 8 Ihn habt ihr nicht gesehen und dennoch liebt ihr ihn; ihr seht ihn auch jetzt nicht; aber ihr glaubt an ihn und jubelt in unaussprechlicher und von Herrlichkeit erfüllter Freude, 9 da ihr das Ziel eures Glaubens empfangen werdet: eure Rettung.

Zeit der Erfüllung

10 Nach dieser Rettung haben die Propheten gesucht und geforscht und sie haben über die Gnade geweissagt, die für euch bestimmt ist. 11 Sie haben nachgeforscht, auf welche Zeit und welche Umstände der in ihnen wirkende Geist Christi hindeute, der die Leiden Christi und die darauf folgende Herrlichkeit im Voraus bezeugte. (Dan 9,2; Dan 12,6) 12 Ihnen wurde offenbart, dass sie damit nicht sich selbst, sondern euch dienten; und jetzt ist euch dies alles von denen verkündet worden, die euch in der Kraft des vom Himmel gesandten Heiligen Geistes das Evangelium gebracht haben. Das alles zu sehen ist sogar das Verlangen der Engel. (Mt 13,17; Lk 10,24)

Neuer Lebenswandel

13 Deshalb umgürtet euch und macht euch bereit! Seid nüchtern und setzt eure Hoffnung ganz auf die Gnade, die euch bei der Offenbarung Jesu Christi geschenkt wird!^[1] (Eph 6,14; 1Petr 5,8) 14 Als Kinder des Gehorsams gebt euch nicht den Begierden hin, wie früher in eurer Unwissenheit! 15 Wie er, der euch berufen hat, heilig ist, so soll auch eure ganze Lebensführung heilig sein. (Mt 5,48; Eph 5,1) 16 Denn es steht geschrieben: Seid heilig, weil ich heilig bin! (3Mo 11,44; 3Mo 19,2) 17 Und wenn ihr den als Vater anruft, der jeden ohne Ansehen der Person nach seinem Tun beurteilt, dann führt auch, solange ihr in der Fremde seid, ein Leben in Gottesfurcht! (Lk 11,2; Gal 4,6) 18 Ihr wisst, dass ihr aus eurer nichtigen, von den Vätern ererbten Lebensweise nicht um einen vergänglichen Preis losgekauft wurdet, nicht um Silber oder Gold, (Jes 52,3; 1Kor 6,20) 19 sondern mit dem kostbaren Blut Christi, des Lammes ohne Fehl und Makel. 20 Er war schon vor Grundlegung der Welt dazu ausersehen und euretwegen ist er am Ende der Zeiten erschienen. 21 Durch ihn seid ihr zum Glauben an Gott gekommen, der ihn von den Toten auferweckt und ihm die Herrlichkeit gegeben hat, sodass ihr an Gott glauben und auf ihn hoffen könnt. 22 Der Wahrheit gehorsam, habt ihr euer Herz rein gemacht für eine aufrichtige geschwisterliche Liebe; darum hört nicht auf, einander von Herzen zu lieben.^[2] (1Petr 2,17; 1Petr 3,8) 23 Ihr seid neu gezeugt worden, nicht aus vergänglichem, sondern aus unvergänglichem Samen: durch Gottes Wort, das lebt und das bleibt. (Jak 1,18) 24 Denn: Alles Sterbliche ist wie Gras und all seine Schönheit ist wie die Blume im Gras. Das Gras verdorrt und die Blume verwelkt; (Jes 40,6) 25 doch das Wort des Herrn bleibt in Ewigkeit. Dies aber ist das Wort, das euch als frohe Botschaft verkündet worden ist.

1 I, Peter, am writing this letter. I am an apostle of Jesus Christ. I am sending this letter to you, God’s chosen people. You are people who have had to wander in the world. You are scattered all over the areas of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia. 2 You have been chosen in keeping with what God the Father had planned. That happened through the Spirit’s work to make you pure and holy. God chose you so that you might obey Jesus Christ. God wanted you to be in a covenant relationship with him. He established this relationship by the blood of Christ. May more and more grace and peace be given to you.

Peter praises God for a living hope

3 Give praise to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. In his great mercy he has given us a new birth and a living hope. This hope is living because Jesus Christ rose from the dead. 4 He has given us new birth so that we might share in what belongs to him. This is a gift that can never be destroyed. It can never spoil or even fade away. It is kept in heaven for you. 5 Through faith you are kept safe by God’s power. Your salvation is going to be completed. It is ready to be shown to you in the last days. 6 Because you know all this, you have great joy. You have joy even though you may have had to suffer for a little while. You may have had to suffer sadness in all kinds of trouble. 7 Your troubles have come in order to prove that your faith is real. Your faith is worth more than gold. That’s because gold can pass away even when fire has made it pure. Your faith is meant to bring praise, honour and glory to God. This will happen when Jesus Christ returns. 8 Even though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not see him now, you believe in him. You are filled with a glorious joy that can’t be put into words. 9 You are receiving the salvation of your souls. This salvation is the final result of your faith. 10 The prophets searched very hard and with great care to find out about this salvation. They spoke about the grace that was going to come to you. 11 They wanted to find out when and how this salvation would come. The Spirit of Christ in them was telling them about the sufferings of the Messiah. These were his sufferings that were going to come. The Spirit of Christ was also telling them about the glory that would follow. 12 It was made known to the prophets that they were not serving themselves. Instead, they were serving you when they spoke about the things that you have now heard. Those who have preached the good news to you have told you these things. They have done it with the help of the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.

Be holy

13 So be watchful, and control yourselves completely. In this way, put your hope in the grace that lies ahead. This grace will be brought to you when Jesus Christ returns. 14 You should obey your Father. You shouldn’t give in to evil desires. They controlled your life when you didn’t know any better. 15 The God who chose you is holy. So you should be holy in all that you do. 16 It is written, ‘Be holy, because I am holy.’ (3Mo 11,44; 3Mo 11,45; 3Mo 19,2) 17 You call on a Father who judges each person’s work without favouring one over another. So live as outsiders during your time here. Live with the highest respect for God. 18 You were set free from an empty way of life. This way of life was handed down to you by your own people of long ago. You know that you were not bought with things that can pass away, like silver or gold. 19 Instead, you were bought with the priceless blood of Christ. He is a perfect lamb. He doesn’t have any flaws at all. 20 He was chosen before God created the world. But he came into the world for your sake in these last days. 21 Because of what Christ has done, you believe in God. It was God who raised him from the dead. And it was God who gave him glory. So your faith and hope are in God. 22 You have made yourselves pure by obeying the truth. So you have an honest and true love for each other. So love one another deeply, from your hearts. 23 You have been born again by means of the living word of God. His word lasts for ever. You were not born again from a seed that will die. You were born from a seed that can’t die. 24 It is written, ‘All people are like grass. All their glory is like the flowers in the field. The grass dries up. The flowers fall to the ground. 25 But the word of the Lord lasts for ever.’ And this is the word that was preached to you. (Jes 40,6)
