1 Paulus, durch Gottes Willen berufener Apostel Christi Jesu, und der Bruder Sosthenes (Röm 1,1; 2Kor 1,1) 2 an die Kirche Gottes, die in Korinth ist - die Geheiligten in Christus Jesus, die berufenen Heiligen -, mit allen, die den Namen unseres Herrn Jesus Christus überall anrufen, bei ihnen und bei uns. DANK AN GOTT

4 Ich danke meinem Gott jederzeit euretwegen für die Gnade Gottes, die euch in Christus Jesus geschenkt wurde, 5 dass ihr an allem reich geworden seid in ihm, an aller Rede und aller Erkenntnis. (2Kor 8,7) 6 Denn das Zeugnis über Christus wurde bei euch gefestigt, 7 sodass euch keine Gnadengabe fehlt, während ihr auf die Offenbarung unseres Herrn Jesus Christus wartet. (Phil 3,20) 8 Er wird euch auch festigen bis ans Ende, sodass ihr schuldlos dasteht am Tag unseres Herrn Jesus Christus. DIE SPALTUNGEN IN DER GEMEINDE

Mahnung zur Einheit

10 Ich ermahne euch aber, Brüder und Schwestern, im Namen unseres Herrn Jesus Christus: Seid alle einmütig und duldet keine Spaltungen unter euch; seid vielmehr eines Sinnes und einer Meinung! (Röm 15,5; 1Kor 11,18) 11 Es wurde mir nämlich, meine Brüder und Schwestern, von den Leuten der Chloë berichtet, dass es Streitigkeiten unter euch gibt. 12 Ich meine damit, dass jeder von euch etwas anderes sagt: Ich halte zu Paulus - ich zu Apollos - ich zu Kephas - ich zu Christus. (Apg 18,24; 1Kor 3,3) 13 Ist denn Christus zerteilt? Wurde etwa Paulus für euch gekreuzigt? Oder seid ihr auf den Namen des Paulus getauft worden? 14 Ich danke Gott, dass ich niemanden von euch getauft habe, außer Krispus und Gaius, (Apg 18,8; Röm 16,23) 15 sodass keiner sagen kann, ihr seiet auf meinen Namen getauft worden. 16 Ich habe allerdings auch das Haus des Stephanas getauft. Ob ich sonst noch jemanden getauft habe, weiß ich nicht mehr. (1Kor 16,15) 17 Denn Christus hat mich nicht gesandt zu taufen, sondern das Evangelium zu verkünden, aber nicht mit gewandten und klugen Worten, damit das Kreuz Christi nicht um seine Kraft gebracht wird. Der gekreuzigte Christus als Weisheit Gottes

18 Denn das Wort vom Kreuz ist denen, die verloren gehen, Torheit; uns aber, die gerettet werden, ist es Gottes Kraft. (Röm 1,16; 1Kor 1,23) 19 In der Schrift steht nämlich: Ich werde die Weisheit der Weisen vernichten / und die Klugheit der Klugen verwerfen. (Jes 29,14) 20 Wo ist ein Weiser? Wo ein Schriftgelehrter? Wo ein Wortführer dieser Weltzeit? Hat Gott nicht die Weisheit der Welt als Torheit entlarvt? (Jes 19,12; Jes 44,25; 1Kor 3,19) 21 Denn da die Welt angesichts der Weisheit Gottes auf dem Weg ihrer Weisheit Gott nicht erkannte, beschloss Gott, alle, die glauben, durch die Torheit der Verkündigung zu retten. 22 Die Juden fordern Zeichen, die Griechen suchen Weisheit. 23 Wir dagegen verkünden Christus als den Gekreuzigten: für Juden ein Ärgernis, für Heiden eine Torheit, (1Kor 2,2; Gal 3,1; Gal 6,12) 24 für die Berufenen aber, Juden wie Griechen, Christus, Gottes Kraft und Gottes Weisheit. (Kol 2,3) 25 Denn das Törichte an Gott ist weiser als die Menschen und das Schwache an Gott ist stärker als die Menschen.

Die Gemeinde und Paulus als Spiegel der Weisheit Gottes

26 Seht doch auf eure Berufung, Brüder und Schwestern! Da sind nicht viele Weise im irdischen Sinn, nicht viele Mächtige, nicht viele Vornehme, 27 sondern das Törichte in der Welt hat Gott erwählt, um die Weisen zuschanden zu machen, und das Schwache in der Welt hat Gott erwählt, um das Starke zuschanden zu machen. 28 Und das Niedrige in der Welt und das Verachtete hat Gott erwählt: das, was nichts ist, um das, was etwas ist, zu vernichten, 29 damit kein Mensch sich rühmen kann vor Gott. (Röm 3,27; Eph 2,9) 30 Von ihm her seid ihr in Christus Jesus, den Gott für uns zur Weisheit gemacht hat, zur Gerechtigkeit, Heiligung und Erlösung. (1Kor 6,11) 31 Wer sich rühmen will, der rühme sich des Herrn; so heißt es schon in der Schrift. (Jer 9,22; 2Kor 10,17)

1 I, Paul, am writing this letter. I have been chosen to be an apostle of Christ Jesus just as God planned. Our brother Sosthenes joins me in writing. 2 We are sending this letter to you, the members of God’s church in Corinth. You have been made holy because you belong to Christ Jesus. God has chosen you to be his holy people. He has done the same for all people everywhere who pray to our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is their Lord and ours. 3 May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.

Paul gives thanks

4 I always thank my God for you. I thank him because of the grace he has given to you who belong to Christ Jesus. 5 You have been blessed in every way because of him. You have been blessed in all your speech and knowledge. 6 God has shown that what we have spoken to you about Christ is true. 7 There is no gift of the Holy Spirit that you don’t have. You are full of hope as you wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to come again. 8 God will also keep you strong in faith to the very end. Then you will be without blame on the day our Lord Jesus Christ returns. 9 God is faithful. He has chosen you to share life with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Taking sides in the church

10 Brothers and sisters, I make my appeal to you. I do this in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. I ask that all of you agree with one another in what you say. I ask that you don’t take sides. I ask that you are in complete agreement in all that you think. 11 My brothers and sisters, I have been told you are arguing with one another. Some people from Chloe’s house have told me this. 12 Here is what I mean. One of you says, ‘I follow Paul.’ Another says, ‘I follow Apollos.’ Another says, ‘I follow Peter.’ And still another says, ‘I follow Christ.’ 13 Does Christ take sides? Did Paul die on the cross for you? Were you baptised in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God that I didn’t baptise any of you except Crispus and Gaius. 15 No one can say that you were baptised in my name. 16 It’s true that I also baptised those who live in the house of Stephanas. Besides that, I don’t remember if I baptised anyone else. 17 Christ did not send me to baptise. He sent me to preach the good news. He commanded me not to preach with wisdom and fancy words. That would take all the power away from the cross of Christ.

Christ is God’s power and wisdom

18 The message of the cross seems foolish to those who are lost and dying. But it is God’s power to us who are being saved. 19 It is written, ‘I will destroy the wisdom of those who are wise. I will do away with the cleverness of those who think they are so smart.’ (Jes 29,14) 20 Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where are the great thinkers of our time? Hasn’t God made the wisdom of the world foolish? 21 God wisely planned that the world would not know him through its own wisdom. It pleased God to use the foolish things we preach to save those who believe. 22 Jews require signs. Greeks look for wisdom. 23 But we preach about Christ and his death on the cross. That is very hard for Jews to accept. And everyone else thinks it’s foolish. 24 But there are those God has chosen, both Jews and Greeks. To them Christ is God’s power and God’s wisdom. 25 The foolish things of God are wiser than human wisdom. The weakness of God is stronger than human strength. 26 Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when God chose you. Not many of you were considered wise by human standards. Not many of you were powerful. Not many of you belonged to important families. 27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise. God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 God chose the things of this world that are common and looked down on. God chose things considered unimportant to do away with things considered important. 29 So no one can boast to God. 30 Because of what God has done, you belong to Christ Jesus. He has become God’s wisdom for us. He makes us right with God. He makes us holy and sets us free. 31 It is written, ‘The one who boasts should boast about what the Lord has done.’ (Jer 9,24)
