1Das Wort Samuels erging an ganz Israel. Israel zog gegen die Philister in den Krieg. Sie schlugen ihr Lager bei Eben-Eser auf und die Philister hatten ihr Lager in Afek.[1]2Die Philister rückten in Schlachtordnung gegen Israel vor und der Kampf wogte hin und her. Israel wurde von den Philistern besiegt, die von Israels Heer auf dem Feld etwa viertausend Mann erschlugen. (1Sam 28,1)3Als das Volk ins Lager zurückkam, sagten die Ältesten Israels: Warum hat der HERR heute die Philister über uns siegen lassen? Wir wollen die Bundeslade des HERRN aus Schilo zu uns holen; er soll in unsere Mitte kommen und uns aus der Hand unserer Feinde retten. (4Mo 10,35; Jos 7,7; 2Sam 11,11)4Das Volk schickte also nach Schilo und man holte von dort die Bundeslade des HERRN der Heerscharen, der über den Kerubim thront. Dort waren auch die beiden Söhne Elis, Hofni und Pinhas. (Ps 80,2)5Als die Bundeslade des HERRN ins Lager kam, erhob ganz Israel großen Jubelschall, sodass die Erde dröhnte. (Jos 6,5)6Die Philister hörten den Jubelschall und sagten: Was ist das für ein großer Jubelschall im Lager der Hebräer? Als sie erfuhren, dass die Lade des HERRN ins Lager gekommen sei, (2Mo 15,14)7fürchteten sich die Philister; denn sie sagten: Gott ist zu ihnen ins Lager gekommen. Und sie riefen: Weh uns! Denn so etwas ist früher nie geschehen.8Weh uns! Wer rettet uns aus der Hand dieses mächtigen Gottes? Das ist der Gott, der Ägypten mit allerlei Plagen in der Wüste geschlagen hat.9Seid tapfer, Philister, und seid Männer, damit ihr nicht den Hebräern dienen müsst, wie sie euch gedient haben! Seid Männer und kämpft! (2Sam 10,12)10Da traten die Philister zum Kampf an und Israel wurde besiegt, sodass alle zu ihren Zelten flohen. Es war eine sehr schwere Niederlage. Von Israel fielen dreißigtausend Mann Fußvolk. (2Kön 14,12)11Die Lade Gottes wurde erbeutet und die beiden Söhne Elis, Hofni und Pinhas, fanden den Tod. (Ps 78,61)12Ein Benjaminiter lief vom Schlachtfeld weg und kam noch am gleichen Tag nach Schilo, mit zerrissenen Kleidern und Erde auf dem Haupt. (2Sam 1,2)13Als er ankam, saß Eli auf seinem Stuhl neben der Straße und hielt Ausschau; denn er hatte Angst um die Lade Gottes. Als der Mann kam und in der Stadt berichtete, schrie die ganze Stadt auf.14Eli hörte das laute Geschrei und fragte: Was bedeutet dieser Lärm? Der Mann lief schnell herbei und berichtete Eli.15Eli war achtundneunzig Jahre alt; seine Augen waren starr geworden, sodass er nichts mehr sehen konnte. (1Sam 3,2; 1Kön 14,4)16Der Mann sagte zu Eli: Ich bin der Mann, der vom Schlachtfeld gekommen ist; ich bin heute aus der Schlacht geflohen. Eli fragte: Wie ist es denn zugegangen, mein Sohn?17Der Bote antwortete: Israel ist vor den Philistern geflohen. Das Volk hat eine schwere Niederlage erlitten. Auch deine beiden Söhne Hofni und Pinhas sind tot und die Lade Gottes ist weggeschleppt worden.18Als er die Lade Gottes erwähnte, fiel Eli rückwärts von seinem Stuhl neben dem Tor, brach sich das Genick und starb, denn er war ein alter und schwerfälliger Mann. Er war vierzig Jahre lang Richter in Israel gewesen.19Seine Schwiegertochter, die Frau des Pinhas, war schwanger und stand vor der Niederkunft. Als sie die Nachricht vernahm, dass die Lade Gottes weggeschleppt und dass ihr Schwiegervater und ihr Mann tot waren, sank sie zu Boden und gebar; denn die Wehen waren über sie gekommen.20Als sie im Sterben lag, sagten die Frauen, die um sie herumstanden: Fürchte dich nicht, du hast einen Sohn geboren. Doch sie achtete nicht darauf und antwortete nichts. (1Mo 35,17)21Sie nannte den Knaben Ikabod - das will besagen: Fort ist die Herrlichkeit aus Israel - wegen des Verlustes der Lade Gottes und wegen ihres Schwiegervaters und ihres Mannes. (Jer 7,12)22Sie sagte: Fort ist die Herrlichkeit aus Israel, denn die Lade Gottes ist weggeschleppt worden. (Ps 78,61)
1Und Samuels Wort erging an ganz Israel. Und es begab sich zu der Zeit, dass die Philister sich sammelten zum Kampf gegen Israel.[1] Israel aber zog aus, den Philistern entgegen, in den Kampf und lagerte sich bei Eben-Eser. Die Philister aber hatten sich gelagert bei Afek. (Jos 15,53; 1Sam 29,1)2Und die Philister stellten sich Israel gegenüber auf. Und der Kampf breitete sich aus, und Israel wurde vor den Philistern geschlagen. (2Mo 25,10; 4Mo 10,35; Jos 3,6; Jos 3,11)4Da sandte das Volk nach Silo und ließ von dort holen die Lade des Bundes des HERRN Zebaoth, der über den Cherubim thront. Und es waren dort die beiden Söhne Elis bei der Lade des Bundes Gottes, Hofni und Pinhas. (2Mo 25,22; 2Sam 6,2)5Und da die Lade des Bundes des HERRN in das Lager kam, jauchzte ganz Israel mit gewaltigem Jauchzen, dass die Erde erdröhnte.6Als aber die Philister das Jauchzen hörten, sprachen sie: Was ist das für ein gewaltiges Jauchzen im Lager der Hebräer? Und als sie erfuhren, dass die Lade des HERRN ins Lager gekommen wäre,7fürchteten sich die Philister und sprachen: Gott ist ins Lager gekommen, und riefen: Wehe uns, denn solches ist bisher noch nicht geschehen!8Wehe uns! Wer will uns erretten aus der Hand dieser mächtigen Götter? Das sind die Götter, die Ägypten schlugen mit allerlei Plage in der Wüste.9So seid nun stark und seid Männer, ihr Philister, dass ihr nicht dienen müsst den Hebräern, wie sie euch gedient haben! Seid Männer und kämpft! (Ri 13,1)10Da kämpften die Philister, und Israel wurde geschlagen, und ein jeder floh zu seinen Zelten. 12Da lief einer von Benjamin aus dem Heer und kam am selben Tage nach Silo und hatte seine Kleider zerrissen und Erde auf sein Haupt gestreut.13Und siehe, als er hinkam, saß Eli auf dem Stuhl am Wege und gab acht; denn sein Herz bangte um die Lade Gottes. Und als der Mann kam, berichtete er’s in der Stadt, und die ganze Stadt schrie auf.14Und da Eli das laute Schreien hörte, fragte er: Was ist das für ein großer Lärm? Da kam der Mann eilends und sagte es Eli an.15Eli aber war achtundneunzig Jahre alt, und seine Augen waren so schwach, dass er nicht mehr sehen konnte. The Death of Eli
12A man of Benjamin ran from the battle line and came to Shiloh the same day, with his clothes torn and with dirt on his head. (Jos 7,6)13When he arrived, Eli was sitting on his seat by the road watching, for his heart trembled for the ark of God. And when the man came into the city and told the news, all the city cried out. (1Sam 1,9; 1Sam 4,18)14When Eli heard the sound of the outcry, he said, “What is this uproar?” Then the man hurried and came and told Eli.15Now Eli was ninety-eight years old and his eyes were set so that he could not see. (1Sam 3,2; 1Kön 14,4)16And the man said to Eli, “I am he who has come from the battle; I fled from the battle today.” And he said, “How did it go, my son?” (2Sam 1,4)17He who brought the news answered and said, “Israel has fled before the Philistines, and there has also been a great defeat among the people. Your two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God has been captured.”18As soon as he mentioned the ark of God, Eli fell over backward from his seat by the side of the gate, and his neck was broken and he died, for the man was old and heavy.
