Judas Stärke unter Joschafat

1 Joschafat, der Sohn Asas, wurde König anstelle seines Vaters. Er wurde mächtig in Israel, (1Kön 15,24; 1Kön 22,41) 2 brachte Truppen in alle befestigten Städte Judas und legte eine Besatzung in das Land Juda und in die Städte Efraims, die sein Vater Asa erobert hatte. 3 Der HERR war mit Joschafat; denn er folgte den früheren Wegen seines Vaters David und suchte nicht die Baale auf, (1Kön 22,43) 4 sondern den Gott seines Vaters. Er befolgte seine Gebote und machte es nicht wie Israel. 5 Darum festigte der HERR die Königsherrschaft in seiner Hand. Ganz Juda brachte Joschafat Geschenke, sodass ihm Reichtum und Ehre in hohem Maß zuteilwurden. (1Chr 29,28; 2Chr 18,1) 6 Da sein Herz den Wegen des HERRN folgte, erstarkte sein Mut und so entfernte er auch die Kulthöhen und die Kultpfähle aus Juda. 7 Im dritten Jahr seiner Regierung sandte er seine Beamten Ben-Hajil, Obadja, Secharja, Netanel und Michaja zur Belehrung des Volkes in die Städte Judas. 8 Bei ihnen waren die Leviten Schemaja, Netanja, Sebadja, Asaël, Schemiramot, Jonatan, Adonija, Tobija und Tob-Adonija sowie die Priester Elischama und Joram. 9 Sie lehrten in Juda; mit dem Buch der Weisung des HERRN durchzogen sie alle Städte Judas und belehrten das Volk. 10 Über alle Königreiche der Länder rings um Juda kam der Schrecken des HERRN, sodass sie mit Joschafat keinen Krieg anfingen. (2Chr 14,13) 11 Philister brachten ihm Geschenke und zahlten Tribut. Auch die Araber lieferten ihm Kleinvieh: siebentausendsiebenhundert Widder und siebentausendsiebenhundert Ziegenböcke. (2Chr 9,24) 12 So wurde Joschafat immer mächtiger. Er baute in Juda Burgen und Vorratsstädte 13 und unternahm viel in den Städten Judas. In Jerusalem standen tapfere Krieger zu seiner Verfügung. (2Chr 11,11) 14 Und das war ihre Dienstordnung nach ihren Großfamilien: Für Juda waren als Tausendschaftsführer bestellt der Oberst Adna mit 300 000 tapferen Kriegern 15 und ihm zur Seite der Oberst Johanan mit 280 000 Mann 16 sowie Amasja, der Sohn Sichris, der sich freiwillig für den HERRN gestellt hatte, mit 200 000 tapferen Kriegern. 17 Aus Benjamin kam Eljada, ein tapferer Krieger, mit 200 000 Mann, die Bogen und Schild trugen. 18 Ihm zur Seite stand Josabad mit 180 000 zum Heeresdienst gerüsteten Männern. 19 Sie dienten dem König zusätzlich zu jenen, die er in die Festungen in ganz Juda gebracht hatte.

Jehoshaphat Reigns in Judah

1 Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his place and strengthened himself against Israel. 2 He placed forces in all the fortified cities of Judah and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim that Asa his father had captured. (2Chr 11,5; 2Chr 15,8) 3 The Lord was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the earlier ways of his father David. He did not seek the Baals, 4 but sought the God of his father and walked in his commandments, and not according to the practices of Israel. (1Kön 12,28) 5 Therefore the Lord established the kingdom in his hand. And all Judah brought tribute to Jehoshaphat, and he had great riches and honor. (2Chr 18,1; 2Chr 32,23) 6 His heart was courageous in the ways of the Lord. And furthermore, he took the high places and the Asherim out of Judah. (1Kön 22,43; 2Chr 15,17; 2Chr 20,33)

7 In the third year of his reign he sent his officials, Ben-hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel, and Micaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah; (2Chr 35,3) 8 and with them the Levites, Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah, and Tobadonijah; and with these Levites, the priests Elishama and Jehoram. (2Chr 19,8) 9 And they taught in Judah, having the Book of the Law of the Lord with them. They went about through all the cities of Judah and taught among the people. (2Chr 17,7) 10 And the fear of the Lord fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were around Judah, and they made no war against Jehoshaphat. (2Chr 14,14; 2Chr 20,29) 11 Some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents and silver for tribute, and the Arabians also brought him 7,700 rams and 7,700 goats. (2Sam 8,2; 2Chr 26,8) 12 And Jehoshaphat grew steadily greater. He built in Judah fortresses and store cities, 13 and he had large supplies in the cities of Judah. He had soldiers, mighty men of valor, in Jerusalem. 14 This was the muster of them by fathers’ houses: Of Judah, the commanders of thousands: Adnah the commander, with 300,000 mighty men of valor; 15 and next to him Jehohanan the commander, with 280,000; 16 and next to him Amasiah the son of Zichri, a volunteer for the service of the Lord, with 200,000 mighty men of valor. (Ri 5,2; Ri 5,9; Neh 11,2) 17 Of Benjamin: Eliada, a mighty man of valor, with 200,000 men armed with bow and shield; (1Chr 12,2) 18 and next to him Jehozabad with 180,000 armed for war. 19 These were in the service of the king, besides those whom the king had placed in the fortified cities throughout all Judah.
