1Als Jabin, der König von Hazor, das hörte, schickte er Boten zu Jobab, dem König von Madon, zum König von Schimron, zum König von Achschaf (Ri 4,2)2und zu den Königen im Norden auf dem Gebirge und in der Araba südlich von Kinneret, in der Schefela und auf den Höhen von Dor im Westen,3zu den Kanaanitern im Osten und im Westen, zu den Amoritern, Hetitern und Perisitern, zu den Jebusitern im Gebirge und den Hiwitern am Fuß des Hermon im Land Mizpe.4Da rückten sie aus mit all ihren Truppen, einem Heer so groß und zahlreich wie der Sand am Ufer des Meeres, dazu mit einer großen Menge von Pferden und Wagen.5Alle diese Könige taten sich zusammen, rückten heran und bezogen gemeinsam ihr Lager bei den Wassern von Merom, um den Kampf mit Israel aufzunehmen.6Der HERR sagte zu Josua: Fürchte dich nicht vor ihnen! Denn morgen um diese Zeit gebe ich sie allesamt preis, erschlagen vor Israel. Du wirst ihre Pferde lähmen und ihre Wagen in Brand stecken.7Da rückte Josua mit dem ganzen Heer an den Wassern von Merom plötzlich gegen sie vor und überfiel sie.8Der HERR gab sie in die Hand Israels und die Israeliten schlugen sie und verfolgten sie bis Groß-Sidon und Misrefot-Majim und bis zur Ebene von Mizpe im Osten. Sie schlugen sie, dass keiner von ihnen übrig blieb, der hätte entkommen können.9Josua machte mit ihnen, was der HERR ihm gesagt hatte: Er lähmte ihre Pferde und steckte ihre Wagen in Brand.10Zu jener Zeit kehrte Josua um und nahm Hazor ein; ihren König erschlug er mit dem Schwert. Hazor hatte früher die Oberherrschaft über alle diese Königreiche.11Die Israeliten erschlugen alles, was in der Stadt lebte, mit scharfem Schwert und vollzogen an ihm den Bann. Nichts Lebendiges blieb übrig. Die Stadt selbst steckte man in Brand.12Aller dieser Königsstädte samt ihren Königen bemächtigte sich Josua; er erschlug alles mit der Schärfe des Schwertes und vollzog an ihm den Bann, wie Mose, der Knecht des HERRN, geboten hatte.13Nicht alle Städte, die auf Hügeln stehen, verbrannte Israel; nur Hazor brannte Josua nieder.14Die ganze Beute aus diesen Städten und das Vieh nahmen die Israeliten für sich, die Menschen aber erschlugen sie alle mit der Schärfe des Schwertes und rotteten sie völlig aus. Keinen Lebenshauch ließen sie übrig.
Rückschau auf die Inbesitznahme des Landes
15Wie der HERR es seinem Knecht Mose geboten hatte, so hatte es Mose Josua geboten und so führte Josua es aus: Er unterließ nichts von alldem, was der HERR dem Mose geboten hatte. (5Mo 20,10)16So nahm Josua dieses ganze Land ein, das Gebirge und den ganzen Negeb, das ganze Land Goschen und die Schefela, die Araba und das Gebirge Israels mit seiner Schefela:17von den kahlen Bergen, die nach Seïr hin ansteigen, bis nach Baal-Gad in der Libanonsenke am Fuß des Hermongebirges. Alle ihre Könige nahm Josua gefangen, er schlug sie und tötete sie.18Lange Zeit hatte Josua gegen alle diese Könige Krieg geführt.19Es gab keine Stadt, die mit den Israeliten Frieden geschlossen hätte, außer den Hiwitern, die Gibeon bewohnten. Alle musste man im Kampf nehmen. (Jos 9,15)20Denn vom HERRN kam die Verhärtung ihres Herzens angesichts des Kampfes mit Israel, damit an ihnen der Bann vollzogen würde; Israel sollte keine Gnade bei ihnen walten lassen, sondern sie ausrotten, wie es der HERR dem Mose geboten hatte. (5Mo 7,2)21Zu jener Zeit zog Josua auch gegen die Anakiter, die im Gebirge, in Hebron, in Debir, in Anab, im Bergland von Juda und im Bergland von Israel wohnten; er rottete sie überall aus und vollzog an ihnen samt ihren Städten den Bann. (5Mo 9,2; Jos 14,12)22Im Land der Israeliten blieben keine Anakiter übrig; nur in Gaza, Gat und Aschdod verblieben sie.23Josua nahm das ganze Land ein, genauso, wie es der HERR zu Mose gesagt hatte, und Josua gab es Israel als Erbbesitz entsprechend seiner Stammeseinteilung. Dann hatte das Land Ruhe vom Krieg.

(5Mo 20,16)13But none of the cities that stood on mounds did Israel burn, except Hazor alone; that Joshua burned.14And all the spoil of these cities and the livestock, the people of Israel took for their plunder. But every person they struck with the edge of the sword until they had destroyed them, and they did not leave any who breathed.15Just as the Lord had commanded Moses his servant, so Moses commanded Joshua, and so Joshua did. He left nothing undone of all that the Lord had commanded Moses. And he captured all their kings and struck them and put them to death. (5Mo 7,24; Jos 11,3; Jos 12,7; Jos 13,5)18Joshua made war a long time with all those kings. (Jos 14,7; Jos 14,10)19There was not a city that made peace with the people of Israel except the Hivites, the inhabitants of Gibeon. They took them all in battle. (Jos 9,3; Jos 9,7)20For it was the Lord’s doing to harden their hearts that they should come against Israel in battle, in order that they should be devoted to destruction and should receive no mercy but be destroyed, just as the Lord commanded Moses. (2Mo 4,21; 5Mo 20,16)21And Joshua came at that time and cut off the Anakim from the hill country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the hill country of Judah, and from all the hill country of Israel. Joshua devoted them to destruction with their cities. (4Mo 13,22; 5Mo 1,28; Jos 15,13)22There was none of the Anakim left in the land of the people of Israel. Only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod did some remain. (1Sam 17,4)23So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the Lord had spoken to Moses. Grande battaglia presso le acque di Merom

10Al suo ritorno, e in quel medesimo tempo, Giosuè prese Asor e ne fece perire di spada il re; poiché Asor era stata nel passato la capitale di tutti quei regni.11Mise anche a fil di spada tutte le persone che vi si trovavano, votandole allo sterminio; non vi restò anima viva, e diede Asor alle fiamme.12Giosuè prese pure tutte le città di quei re e tutti i loro re, li mise a fil di spada e li votò allo sterminio, come aveva ordinato Mosè, servo del Signore.13Ma Israele non incendiò nessuna delle città poste in collina, salvo Asor, la sola che Giosuè incendiò.14I figli d’Israele tennero per sé tutto il bottino di quelle città e il bestiame, ma misero a fil di spada tutti gli uomini fino al loro totale sterminio, senza lasciare anima viva.15Come il Signore aveva comandato a Mosè suo servo, così Mosè ordinò a Giosuè, e così fece Giosuè, il quale non trascurò nessuno degli ordini che il Signore aveva dati a Mosè.16Giosuè prese dunque tutto quel paese, la regione montuosa, tutta la regione meridionale, tutta la terra di Goscen, la regione bassa, la pianura, la regione montuosa d’Israele e le sue regioni basse,17dalla montagna brulla che si eleva verso Seir, fino a Baal-Gad nella valle del Libano ai piedi del monte Ermon; prese tutti i loro re, li colpì e li mise a morte.18Giosuè fece per lungo tempo guerra a tutti quei re.19Non ci fu città che facesse pace con i figli d’Israele, eccetto gli Ivvei che abitavano a Gabaon; le presero tutte, combattendo;20infatti il Signore faceva sì che il loro cuore si ostinasse a dar battaglia a Israele, perché Israele li votasse allo sterminio senza che ci fosse pietà per loro, e li distruggesse come il Signore aveva comandato a Mosè.21In quel medesimo tempo, Giosuè si mise in marcia e sterminò gli Anachiti della regione montuosa, di Ebron, di Debir, di Anab, di tutta la regione montuosa di Giuda e di tutta la regione montuosa d’Israele; Giosuè li votò allo sterminio con le loro città.22Non rimasero più Anachiti nel paese dei figli d’Israele; non ne restarono che alcuni in Gaza, in Gat e in Asdod.23Giosuè dunque prese tutto il paese, esattamente come il Signore aveva detto a Mosè; e Giosuè lo diede in eredità a Israele, tribù per tribù, secondo la parte che toccava a ciascuna.
