1And Samuel said to Saul, “The Lord sent me to anoint you king over his people Israel; now therefore listen to the words of the Lord. (1Sa 9:16)2Thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘I have noted what Amalek did to Israel in opposing them on the way when they came up out of Egypt. (Ex 17:8; De 25:17)3Now go and strike Amalek and devote to destruction[1] all that they have. Do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’” (Le 27:28; Jos 6:17; Jos 6:21; 1Sa 22:19)4So Saul summoned the people and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand men on foot, and ten thousand men of Judah.5And Saul came to the city of Amalek and lay in wait in the valley.6Then Saul said to the Kenites, “Go, depart; go down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them. For you showed kindness to all the people of Israel when they came up out of Egypt.” So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites. (Ex 18:10; Ex 18:19; Nu 10:29; Nu 10:32; Jud 1:16; 1Sa 27:10)7And Saul defeated the Amalekites from Havilah as far as Shur, which is east of Egypt. (Ge 2:11; Ge 16:7; Ge 25:18; Ex 15:22; 1Sa 14:48; 1Sa 27:8)8And he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive and devoted to destruction all the people with the edge of the sword. (1Sa 27:8; 1Sa 30:1)9But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep and of the oxen and of the fattened calves[2] and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them. All that was despised and worthless they devoted to destruction. (1Sa 15:15; 1Sa 15:21; 1Sa 28:18)10The word of the Lord came to Samuel:11“I regret[3] that I have made Saul king, for he has turned back from following me and has not performed my commandments.” And Samuel was angry, and he cried to the Lord all night. (Ge 6:6; 1Sa 13:13; 1Sa 15:3; 1Sa 15:9)12And Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning. And it was told Samuel, “Saul came to Carmel, and behold, he set up a monument for himself and turned and passed on and went down to Gilgal.” (Jos 15:55)13And Samuel came to Saul, and Saul said to him, “Blessed be you to the Lord. I have performed the commandment of the Lord.” (Ru 2:20)14And Samuel said, “What then is this bleating of the sheep in my ears and the lowing of the oxen that I hear?”15Saul said, “They have brought them from the Amalekites, for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen to sacrifice to the Lord your God, and the rest we have devoted to destruction.” (1Sa 15:9; 1Sa 15:21)16Then Samuel said to Saul, “Stop! I will tell you what the Lord said to me this night.” And he said to him, “Speak.”17And Samuel said, “Though you are little in your own eyes, are you not the head of the tribes of Israel? The Lord anointed you king over Israel. (1Sa 9:21)18And the Lord sent you on a mission and said, ‘Go, devote to destruction the sinners, the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are consumed.’19Why then did you not obey the voice of the Lord? Why did you pounce on the spoil and do what was evil in the sight of the Lord?” (1Sa 14:32)20And Saul said to Samuel, “I have obeyed the voice of the Lord. I have gone on the mission on which the Lord sent me. I have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and I have devoted the Amalekites to destruction. (1Sa 15:13)21But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the best of the things devoted to destruction, to sacrifice to the Lord your God in Gilgal.” (1Sa 15:15)22And Samuel said, “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams. (Ps 40:6; Ps 50:8; Pr 21:3; Ec 5:1; Isa 1:11; Isa 1:16; Jer 7:22; Ho 6:6; Mic 6:6; Mt 9:13; Mt 12:7; Mr 12:33; Heb 10:6)23For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and presumption is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, he has also rejected you from being king.” (Ge 31:19; Ge 31:34; 1Sa 13:14; 1Sa 15:26)24Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned, for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice. (2Sa 12:13)25Now therefore, please pardon my sin and return with me that I may bow before the Lord.” (1Sa 15:30)26And Samuel said to Saul, “I will not return with you. For you have rejected the word of the Lord, and the Lord has rejected you from being king over Israel.” (1Sa 15:23; 1Sa 16:1)27As Samuel turned to go away, Saul seized the skirt of his robe, and it tore. (1Ki 11:30)28And Samuel said to him, “The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you this day and has given it to a neighbor of yours, who is better than you. (1Sa 28:17)29And also the Glory of Israel will not lie or have regret, for he is not a man, that he should have regret.” (Nu 23:19; Eze 24:14)30Then he said, “I have sinned; yet honor me now before the elders of my people and before Israel, and return with me, that I may bow before the Lord your God.” (1Sa 15:25; Joh 5:44; Joh 12:43)31So Samuel turned back after Saul, and Saul bowed before the Lord.32Then Samuel said, “Bring here to me Agag the king of the Amalekites.” And Agag came to him cheerfully.[4] Agag said, “Surely the bitterness of death is past.”33And Samuel said, “As your sword has made women childless, so shall your mother be childless among women.” And Samuel hacked Agag to pieces before the Lord in Gilgal. (Jud 1:7; 1Sa 15:12; 1Sa 15:21)34Then Samuel went to Ramah, and Saul went up to his house in Gibeah of Saul. (1Sa 1:19; 1Sa 11:4)35And Samuel did not see Saul again until the day of his death, but Samuel grieved over Saul. And the Lord regretted that he had made Saul king over Israel. (1Sa 15:11; 1Sa 16:1; 1Sa 19:24)
Krieg gegen Amalek. Sauls Ungehorsam und Verwerfung
1Samuel aber sprach zu Saul: Der HERR hat mich gesandt, um dich zum König über Israel zu salben; so höre nun auf die Stimme der Worte des HERRN! (1Sa 9:16; 1Sa 10:1; 1Sa 12:14; 1Sa 15:16; 1Sa 15:17; 2Sa 23:2; Ps 2:10)2So spricht der HERR der Heerscharen: Ich will strafen, was Amalek an Israel tat, indem er sich ihm in den Weg stellte, als es aus Ägypten heraufzog. (De 25:17; 1Sa 14:48; Ps 10:12; Ps 74:18; Am 8:7; Re 18:5)3So ziehe nun hin und schlage Amalek, und vollstrecke den Bann an allem, was er hat, und schone ihn nicht; sondern töte Männer und Frauen, Kinder und Säuglinge, Rinder und Schafe, Kamele und Esel! (De 13:15; Jos 6:21)4Da bot Saul das Volk auf und musterte sie bei Telaim, etwa 200 000 Mann Fußvolk und 10 000 Mann aus Juda. (Jos 15:24)5Und Saul kam zu der Stadt Amaleks und legte einen Hinterhalt im Tal. (Jud 9:25)6Und Saul ließ den Kenitern sagen: Geht fort, weicht, zieht weg aus der Mitte der Amalekiter, damit ich euch nicht mit ihnen aufreibe; denn ihr habt Gnade an allen Kindern Israels erwiesen, als sie aus Ägypten heraufzogen! So zogen die Keniter aus der Mitte von Amalek weg. (Ge 15:19; Ge 18:25; Ge 19:12; Ex 20:6; Nu 10:29; Nu 24:21; Jud 1:16; Jud 4:11; Mal 3:18; Re 18:4)7Da schlug Saul Amalek, von Hewila an bis nach Schur, das östlich von Ägypten liegt, (Ge 25:18; Ex 15:22; 1Sa 15:2; 1Sa 27:8)8und er nahm Agag, den König von Amalek, lebendig gefangen; dagegen vollstreckte er den Bann an dem ganzen Volk mit der Schärfe des Schwertes. (Jos 10:39; 1Ch 4:43)9Aber Saul und das Volk verschonten Agag und die besten Schafe und Rinder und das Vieh vom zweiten Wurf[1] und die Mastschafe und alles, was wertvoll war, und sie wollten den Bann an ihnen nicht vollstrecken; alles Vieh aber, das wertlos und schwächlich war, an dem vollstreckten sie den Bann. (Jos 6:18; Jos 7:21; 1Sa 15:3; 1Sa 15:15; 1Ki 20:30)10Da erging das Wort des HERRN an Samuel folgendermaßen:11Es reut mich, dass ich Saul zum König gemacht habe; denn er hat sich von mir abgewandt und meine Worte nicht erfüllt! Darüber entbrannte Samuel, und er schrie zum HERRN die ganze Nacht. (Ge 6:6; 1Sa 12:23; 1Sa 13:13; 1Ki 9:6; 1Ki 11:9; Ps 125:5; Jer 15:10; Jer 18:7; Jas 5:13; 2Pe 2:21)12Und Samuel machte sich früh auf, um Saul am Morgen zu begegnen. Und es wurde dem Samuel berichtet: Saul ist nach Karmel gekommen, und siehe, er hat sich ein Denkmal aufgerichtet; danach hat er eine Schwenkung gemacht, ist hinübergezogen und nach Gilgal hinabgestiegen. (Ps 36:3; Jer 2:18; Jer 2:22; Jer 2:35; Mal 3:13)15Und Saul sprach: Man hat sie von den Amalekitern hergebracht; denn das Volk verschonte die besten Schafe und Rinder, um sie dem HERRN, deinem Gott, zu opfern; an dem Übrigen haben wir den Bann vollstreckt! (Ge 3:12; 1Sa 15:9; 1Sa 15:21)16Samuel aber antwortete dem Saul: Halte still, und ich will dir sagen, was der HERR diese Nacht zu mir geredet hat! Da sprach er zu ihm: Rede! (1Sa 9:6; 1Sa 9:27; Isa 1:20; Isa 8:20)17Und Samuel sprach: Ist es nicht so, als du klein warst in deinen Augen, wurdest du das Haupt der Stämme Israels, und der HERR salbte dich zum König über Israel? (1Sa 9:21; 1Sa 10:1; Pr 18:12)18Und der HERR sandte dich auf den Weg und sprach: Zieh hin und vollstrecke den Bann an den Sündern, an den Amalekitern, und bekämpfe sie, bis du sie ausgerottet hast! (Ge 13:13; Nu 17:3; Job 31:3; Pr 10:29; Pr 13:21)19Warum hast du denn der Stimme des HERRN nicht gehorcht, sondern bist über die Beute hergefallen und hast getan, was böse ist in den Augen des HERRN? (Pr 15:27; Jer 7:11; Hab 2:9; 2Ti 4:10)20Und Saul antwortete dem Samuel: Ich habe doch der Stimme des HERRN gehorcht und bin den Weg gezogen, den mich der HERR sandte, und habe Agag, den König von Amalek, hergebracht und an den Amalekitern den Bann vollstreckt! (1Sa 15:8; 1Sa 15:13; Job 33:8; Job 40:8; Mt 19:20; Ro 10:3)21Aber das Volk hat von der Beute genommen, Schafe und Rinder, das Beste des Gebannten, um es dem HERRN, deinem Gott, in Gilgal zu opfern! (Ge 3:13; Ex 32:22; 1Sa 15:15)22Samuel aber sprach zu Saul: Hat der HERR dasselbe Wohlgefallen an Schlachtopfern und Brandopfern wie daran, dass man der Stimme des HERRN gehorcht? Siehe, Gehorsam ist besser als Schlachtopfer und Folgsamkeit besser als das Fett von Widdern! (Ps 50:8; Pr 21:3; Isa 1:11; Jer 7:22; Ho 6:6; Mic 6:6; Mt 9:13; Mt 12:7; Mr 12:33)23Denn Ungehorsam ist [wie] die Sünde der Wahrsagerei, und Widerspenstigkeit ist [wie] Abgötterei und Götzendienst. Weil du nun das Wort des HERRN verworfen hast, so hat er dich verworfen, dass du nicht mehr König sein sollst! (Le 26:21; Nu 15:30; De 18:10; De 27:15; De 32:21; 1Sa 13:14; 1Sa 15:26; 1Sa 28:9; Pr 1:24; Jer 16:18; Eze 14:4; Col 3:5; 1Pe 4:3)24Da sprach Saul zu Samuel: Ich habe gesündigt, dass ich den Befehl des HERRN und deine Worte übertreten habe; denn ich fürchtete das Volk und gehorchte seiner Stimme! (Ex 23:2; 2Sa 12:13; Pr 29:25; Isa 51:12; Mt 10:28; Ga 1:10)25Nun aber vergib mir doch meine Sünde und kehre mit mir um, damit ich den HERRN anbete! (Ex 10:17)26Samuel sprach zu Saul: Ich will nicht mit dir umkehren; denn du hast das Wort des HERRN verworfen, und der HERR hat dich verworfen, dass du nicht mehr König über Israel sein sollst! (1Sa 2:30)27Und Samuel wandte sich ab und wollte gehen; da ergriff er ihn beim Zipfel seines Obergewandes, sodass dieser abriss. (1Sa 28:14; 1Ki 11:11; 1Ki 14:8; 2Ki 17:21)28Da sprach Samuel zu ihm: Der HERR hat heute das Königreich Israel von dir abgerissen und es deinem Nächsten gegeben, der besser ist als du! (1Sa 28:17; 1Ki 11:30; Ac 13:21)29Auch lügt der Ruhm Israels nicht, es reut ihn auch nicht; denn er ist kein Mensch, dass er etwas bereuen müsste! (Ex 15:2; Nu 23:19; Eze 24:14; Mal 3:6; 2Ti 2:13; Tit 1:2)30Er aber sprach: Ich habe gesündigt; nun aber ehre mich doch vor den Ältesten meines Volkes und vor Israel und kehre mit mir um, damit ich den HERRN, deinen Gott, anbete! (Joh 5:44; Joh 12:43)31Da kehrte Samuel um und folgte Saul, und Saul betete den HERRN an. (Ps 109:7; Pr 28:9)32Samuel aber sprach: Bringt Agag, den König von Amalek, zu mir her! Und Agag kam gebunden zu ihm. Und Agag sprach: Fürwahr, die Bitterkeit des Todes ist gewichen! (Ro 3:14; Eph 4:31)33Samuel sprach: Wie dein Schwert Frauen ihrer Kinder beraubt hat, so soll auch deine Mutter ihrer Kinder beraubt werden vor allen Frauen! Und Samuel hieb Agag in Stücke vor dem HERRN in Gilgal. (Nu 25:7; Jud 1:7; 1Ki 18:40; Mt 7:1; Jas 2:13)34Und Samuel ging nach Rama; Saul aber zog in sein Haus hinauf, nach dem Gibea Sauls. (1Sa 7:17; 1Sa 10:26; 1Sa 11:4)35Und Samuel sah Saul nicht mehr bis zum Tag seines Todes; denn Samuel trug Leid um Saul; den HERRN aber reute es, dass er Saul zum König über Israel gemacht hatte.
