God Is My Strength and Portion Forever

1 A Psalm of Asaph. Truly God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart. (Ps 24:4; Ps 50:1; Joh 1:47) 2 But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled, my steps had nearly slipped. 3 For I was envious of the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. 4 For they have no pangs until death; their bodies are fat and sleek. 5 They are not in trouble as others are; they are not stricken like the rest of mankind. (Isa 53:4) 6 Therefore pride is their necklace; violence covers them as a garment. (Jud 8:26; Ps 109:18) 7 Their eyes swell out through fatness; their hearts overflow with follies. (Job 15:27) 8 They scoff and speak with malice; loftily they threaten oppression. (Ps 20:2; Ps 37:38) 18 Truly you set them in slippery places; you make them fall to ruin. (Ps 35:6) 19 How they are destroyed in a moment, swept away utterly by terrors! (Job 20:8; Ps 78:65) 21 When my soul was embittered, when I was pricked in heart, 22 I was brutish and ignorant; I was like a beast toward you. (Ps 32:8; Ps 49:15) 25 Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. Perplexité face au bonheur des impies

1 Psaume d'Asaph. Oui, Dieu est bon pour Israël, pour ceux qui ont le cœur pur. 2 Toutefois, mon pied allait trébucher, mes pas étaient sur le point de glisser, 3 car j'étais jaloux des vantards en voyant le bien-être des méchants: 4 rien ne les tourmente jusqu'à leur mort, et leur corps prend de l'embonpoint; 5 ils n'ont aucune part aux souffrances humaines, ils ne sont pas frappés comme le reste des hommes. 6 C'est pourquoi ils se parent de l'orgueil comme d'un collier, la violence les enveloppe comme un manteau. 7 Leurs yeux ressortent dans un visage plein de graisse, les mauvaises pensées de leur cœur débordent. 8 Ils ricanent et parlent méchamment d'opprimer, ils profèrent des discours hautains, 9 leur bouche s'attaque au ciel et leur langue balaie la terre. 10 Voilà pourquoi son peuple se tourne de leur côté, il boit leurs paroles avidement comme de l'eau, 11 et il dit: «Comment Dieu pourrait-il savoir? Y a-t-il de la connaissance chez le Très-Haut? 12 Voici comment sont les méchants: toujours tranquilles, ils augmentent leurs richesses. 13 C'est donc pour rien que j'ai purifié mon cœur et que j'ai lavé mes mains en signe d'innocence! 14 Chaque jour je suis frappé, tous les matins je suis repris.» 15 Si je disais: «Je veux parler comme eux», alors je trahirais tes enfants. 16 Quand j'ai réfléchi pour comprendre cela, la difficulté a été grande à mes yeux, 17 jusqu'au moment où je suis entré dans les sanctuaires de Dieu et où j'ai prêté attention au sort final des méchants: 18 oui, tu les places sur un terrain glissant, tu les fais tomber dans la ruine. 19 Et voilà, en un instant ils sont détruits, ils ont disparu, anéantis par l'épouvante! 20 Comme un rêve qui se dissipe au réveil, Seigneur, à ton réveil, tu repousses leur image. 21 Lorsque mon cœur était aigri et mes reins transpercés, 22 j'étais idiot et je ne comprenais rien, j'étais devant toi comme une bête. 23 Cependant je suis toujours avec toi: tu m'as empoigné la main droite, 24 tu me conduiras par ton conseil, puis tu me prendras dans la gloire. 25 Qui d'autre ai-je au ciel? Et sur la terre je ne prends plaisir qu'en toi. 26 Mon corps et mon cœur peuvent s'épuiser, Dieu sera toujours le rocher de mon cœur et ma bonne part. 27 Oui, ceux qui s'éloignent de toi vont à leur perte, tu réduis au silence tous ceux qui te sont infidèles. 28 Pour moi, mon bonheur, c'est de m'approcher de Dieu. Je place mon refuge en toi, Seigneur, Eternel, afin de raconter tout ce que tu fais.
