1When Jabin, king of Hazor, heard of this, he sent to Jobab king of Madon, and to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Achshaph, (Jos 10:3)2and to the kings who were in the northern hill country, and in the Arabah south of Chinneroth, and in the lowland, and in Naphoth-dor on the west, (Nu 34:11; De 1:1; Jos 3:16; Jos 12:3; Jos 12:23; Jos 13:27; Jos 17:11; Jos 19:35; Jud 1:27)3to the Canaanites in the east and the west, the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, and the Jebusites in the hill country, and the Hivites under Hermon in the land of Mizpah. (Ge 31:49; De 3:8; Jos 11:8; Jos 15:63; Jud 3:3)4And they came out with all their troops, a great horde, in number like the sand that is on the seashore, with very many horses and chariots. (Ge 22:17; Ge 32:12; Jud 7:12; 1Sa 13:5)5And all these kings joined their forces and came and encamped together at the waters of Merom to fight against Israel.6And the Lord said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid of them, for tomorrow at this time I will give over all of them, slain, to Israel. You shall hamstring their horses and burn their chariots with fire.” (Ge 49:6; De 20:1; Jos 10:8; Jos 11:9; Jos 17:16; Jud 1:19; Jud 4:3; 2Sa 8:4; 1Ch 18:4)7So Joshua and all his warriors came suddenly against them by the waters of Merom and fell upon them. (Jos 10:9)8And the Lord gave them into the hand of Israel, who struck them and chased them as far as Great Sidon and Misrephoth-maim, and eastward as far as the Valley of Mizpeh. And they struck them until he left none remaining. (Jos 11:3; Jos 13:6; Jos 19:28)9And Joshua did to them just as the Lord said to him: he hamstrung their horses and burned their chariots with fire. (Jos 11:6)10And Joshua turned back at that time and captured Hazor and struck its king with the sword, for Hazor formerly was the head of all those kingdoms. (Jud 4:2)11And they struck with the sword all who were in it, devoting them to destruction;[1] there was none left that breathed. And he burned Hazor with fire. (Jos 10:40)12And all the cities of those kings, and all their kings, Joshua captured, and struck them with the edge of the sword, devoting them to destruction, just as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded. (De 20:16)13But none of the cities that stood on mounds did Israel burn, except Hazor alone; that Joshua burned.14And all the spoil of these cities and the livestock, the people of Israel took for their plunder. But every person they struck with the edge of the sword until they had destroyed them, and they did not leave any who breathed.15Just as the Lord had commanded Moses his servant, so Moses commanded Joshua, and so Joshua did. He left nothing undone of all that the Lord had commanded Moses. (Ex 34:11; De 7:2; Jos 1:7)16So Joshua took all that land, the hill country and all the Negeb and all the land of Goshen and the lowland and the Arabah and the hill country of Israel and its lowland (Jos 10:41; Jos 11:2; Jos 11:21; Jos 12:8; Jos 15:51)17from Mount Halak, which rises toward Seir, as far as Baal-gad in the Valley of Lebanon below Mount Hermon. And he captured all their kings and struck them and put them to death. (De 7:24; Jos 11:3; Jos 12:7; Jos 13:5)18Joshua made war a long time with all those kings. (Jos 14:7; Jos 14:10)19There was not a city that made peace with the people of Israel except the Hivites, the inhabitants of Gibeon. They took them all in battle. (Jos 9:3; Jos 9:7)20For it was the Lord’s doing to harden their hearts that they should come against Israel in battle, in order that they should be devoted to destruction and should receive no mercy but be destroyed, just as the Lord commanded Moses. (Ex 4:21; De 20:16)21And Joshua came at that time and cut off the Anakim from the hill country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the hill country of Judah, and from all the hill country of Israel. Joshua devoted them to destruction with their cities. (Nu 13:22; De 1:28; Jos 15:13)22There was none of the Anakim left in the land of the people of Israel. Only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod did some remain. (1Sa 17:4)23So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the Lord had spoken to Moses. And Joshua gave it for an inheritance to Israel according to their tribal allotments. And the land had rest from war. (Nu 26:52; Nu 34:2; Jos 12:7; Jos 18:10)
1-3وقتی يابين، پادشاه حاصور، از اين وقايع آگاهی يافت، فوراً پيغامهايی به اين پادشاهان كه بر شهرهای همجوار او حكومت میكردند، فرستاد: يوباب پادشاه مادون، پادشاه شمرون، پادشاه اخشاف، تمام پادشاهان كوهستانهای شمالی، پادشاه دره اردن واقع در جنوب درياچهٔ جليل، پادشاهانی كه در دشتها ساكن بودند، پادشاهان بلنديهای دُر، در غرب، پادشاهانی كه در شرق و غرب كنعان بودند، پادشاهان قومهای اموری، حيتی، فرزی و يبوسی كه در كوهستانها بودند، پادشاهان قوم حوی كه در شهرهای دامنهٔ كوه حرمون در زمين مصفه ساكن بودند.4-5بدين ترتيب، تمام پادشاهان برای در هم شكستن قوای اسرائیلیها با هم متحد شدند و لشكرهای خود را بسيج كرده، نزد چشمههای مروم اردو زدند، سپاهيان بیشمار آنها با اسبها و عرابههايشان دشتها را پر ساختند.6اما خداوند به يوشع فرمود: «از آنها نترس، چون فردا در همين وقت تمام آنها كشته خواهند شد! شما بايد رگ پای اسبانشان را قطع كنيد و عرابههايشان را آتش بزنيد.»7يوشع و افراد او خود را به چشمههای مروم رساندند و در يک حملهٔ ناگهانی، لشكر دشمن را غافلگير كردند.8خداوند تمام آن سپاه عظيم را به دست اسرائیلیها تسليم نمود و آنها افراد دشمن را تا صيدون بزرگ و مسرفوتمايم و شرق درهٔ مصفه تعقيب نموده، كشتند. در اين جنگ حتی يک نفر از افراد دشمن جان به در نبرد!9يوشع و افراد او همانطور كه خداوند به ايشان فرموده بود، رگ پای اسبهای دشمن را قطع كردند و تمام عرابههای آنها را آتش زدند.10يوشع در راه بازگشت، شهر حاصور را نيز تسخير نمود و پادشاه آن را كشت. (حاصور مهمترين شهر آن نواحی بود.)11يوشع تمام كسانی را كه در آن شهر بودند كشت و شهر را به آتش كشيد.12سپس يوشع به ساير شهرهای پادشاهان مغلوب حمله برد و چنانكه موسی، خدمتگزار خداوند، به او گفته بود، تمام ساكنان آنجا را قتل عام نمود.13(از شهرهايی كه بر بالای تپهها بنا شده بودند، يوشع فقط شهر حاصور را سوزانيد و بقيه را سالم باقی گذاشت.)14قوم اسرائيل تمام حيوانات و ثروت شهرهای ويران شده را به غنيمت بردند، و همهٔ اهالی آنجا را كشتند.15يوشع تمام دستورات موسی را كه خداوند به او داده بود بدون كم و كاست انجام داد.16پس يوشع تمام سرزمين را تصرف كرد يعنی همهٔ نواحی كوهستانی صحرای نگب، تمام سرزمين جوشن، دشتها، دره اردن، و دشتها و کوههای اسرائيل.17به اين ترتيب، وسعت سرزمين اسرائيل از كوه حالق نزديک سعير در جنوب، تا بعل جاد در وادی لبنان در دامنهٔ كوه حرمون در شمال میرسيد. يوشع تمام پادشاهان اين ممالک را كشت.18قوم اسرائيل چندين سال جنگيدند تا توانستند اين سرزمين را كه خدا به آنها وعده داده بود تصرف نمايند.19تنها شهری كه با اسرائيل پيمان صلح بست، جبعون بود كه در آن قوم حوی ساكن بودند. بقيهٔ شهرها در جنگ به تصرف اسرائيل درآمدند.20خداوند دشمنان را بر آن داشت تا به جای اينكه خواستار صلح باشند، با قوم اسرائيل بجنگند. در نتيجه، همهٔ آنها بدون ترحم كشته شدند و اين درست همان بود كه خداوند به موسی امر فرموده بود.21در طی اين مدت، يوشع عناقیها را كه در كوهستانهای حبرون، دبير، عناب، يهودا و اسرائيل زندگی میكردند از بين برد و تمام شهرهايشان را ويران كرد.22همهٔ عناقیهايی كه در سرزمين اسرائيل بودند از بين رفتند و فقط عدهٔ كمی از آنها در غزه، جت و اشدود باقی ماندند.23پس يوشع تمام آن سرزمين را، چنانكه خداوند به موسی فرموده بود، تصرف كرد و آن را بين قبايل اسرائيل تقسيم نمود و به ايشان به ملكيت بخشيد. سرانجام در آن سرزمين پس از سالها جنگ، صلح و آرامش حكمفرما شد.
