1These are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem to the surviving elders of the exiles, and to the priests, the prophets, and all the people, whom Nebuchadnezzar had taken into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon. (Jer 23:33; Eze 8:1)2This was after King Jeconiah and the queen mother, the eunuchs, the officials of Judah and Jerusalem, the craftsmen, and the metal workers had departed from Jerusalem. (2Ki 24:12; 2Ki 24:14; Jer 24:1)3The letter was sent by the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent to Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. It said: (1Ch 6:13; 2Ch 34:8)4“Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, to all the exiles whom I have sent into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon:5Build houses and live in them; plant gardens and eat their produce. (Jer 29:28)6Take wives and have sons and daughters; take wives for your sons, and give your daughters in marriage, that they may bear sons and daughters; multiply there, and do not decrease.7But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare. (Ezr 6:10; 1Ti 2:1)8For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Do not let your prophets and your diviners who are among you deceive you, and do not listen to the dreams that they dream,[1] (Jer 5:31; Jer 6:14; Jer 27:9; Jer 27:15)9for it is a lie that they are prophesying to you in my name; I did not send them, declares the Lord. (Jer 5:31; Jer 29:31)10“For thus says the Lord: When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will visit you, and I will fulfill to you my promise and bring you back to this place. (Jer 24:6; Jer 25:12; Jer 27:22; Jer 33:14)11For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare[2] and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. (Isa 55:8; Jer 31:17)12Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. (Jer 33:3; Da 9:3)13You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. (Le 26:39; De 4:29; De 30:1; 2Ch 15:2; Ps 32:6; Ps 78:34; Pr 8:17; Isa 55:6; Jer 24:7; Ho 3:5)14I will be found by you, declares the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, declares the Lord, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile. (Jer 8:3; Jer 23:3; Jer 30:3)15“Because you have said, ‘The Lord has raised up prophets for us in Babylon,’16thus says the Lord concerning the king who sits on the throne of David, and concerning all the people who dwell in this city, your kinsmen who did not go out with you into exile: (Jer 22:2)17‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, behold, I am sending on them sword, famine, and pestilence, and I will make them like vile figs that are so rotten they cannot be eaten. (Jer 24:8; Jer 24:10)18I will pursue them with sword, famine, and pestilence, and will make them a horror to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a curse, a terror, a hissing, and a reproach among all the nations where I have driven them, (Jer 15:4; Jer 18:16; Jer 24:9; Jer 29:14; Jer 29:17; Jer 42:18)19because they did not pay attention to my words, declares the Lord, that I persistently sent to you by my servants the prophets, but you would not listen, declares the Lord.’ (Jer 25:4)20Hear the word of the Lord, all you exiles whom I sent away from Jerusalem to Babylon: (Jer 24:5)21‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning Ahab the son of Kolaiah and Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, who are prophesying a lie to you in my name: Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he shall strike them down before your eyes. (Jer 14:14; Jer 29:9)22Because of them this curse shall be used by all the exiles from Judah in Babylon: “The Lord make you like Zedekiah and Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire,” (Isa 65:15; Jer 24:9; Da 3:6)23because they have done an outrageous thing in Israel, they have committed adultery with their neighbors’ wives, and they have spoken in my name lying words that I did not command them. I am the one who knows, and I am witness, declares the Lord.’” (Jer 23:14; Mal 3:5)
Shemaiah’s False Prophecy
24To Shemaiah of Nehelam you shall say: (Jer 29:31)25“Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: You have sent letters in your name to all the people who are in Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying, (2Ki 25:18; Jer 21:1; Jer 35:4)26‘The Lord has made you priest instead of Jehoiada the priest, to have charge in the house of the Lord over every madman who prophesies, to put him in the stocks and neck irons. (2Ki 9:11; Jer 20:1; Jer 20:2; Ac 26:24)27Now why have you not rebuked Jeremiah of Anathoth who is prophesying to you? (Jer 1:1; Jer 32:7)28For he has sent to us in Babylon, saying, “Your exile will be long; build houses and live in them, and plant gardens and eat their produce.”’” (Jer 29:5)29Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the hearing of Jeremiah the prophet. (Jer 29:25)30Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah: (Jer 29:1; Jer 29:20)31“Send to all the exiles, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord concerning Shemaiah of Nehelam: Because Shemaiah had prophesied to you when I did not send him, and has made you trust in a lie, (Jer 5:31; Jer 29:9; Jer 29:24)32therefore thus says the Lord: Behold, I will punish Shemaiah of Nehelam and his descendants. He shall not have anyone living among this people, and he shall not see the good that I will do to my people, declares the Lord, for he has spoken rebellion against the Lord.’” (Jer 17:6; Jer 28:16; Jer 29:31)
1-2پس از آنكه يهوياكين پادشاه و مادرش به همراه درباريان، بزرگان يهودا و اورشليم و صنعتگران و پيشهوران به دست نبوكدنصر به بابل به اسارت برده شدند، نامهای از اورشليم برای سران يهود و كاهنان، انبیا و تمام قوم تبعيدی نوشتم،3و آن را بهوسیله العاسه (پسر شافان) و جمريا (پسر حلقيا) به بابل فرستادم. اين دو نفر سفيران صدقيای پادشاه بودند كه قرار بود به حضور نبوكدنصر به بابل بروند. متن نامه چنين بود:4خداوند قادر متعال، خدای اسرائيل، به همهٔ شما كه به خواست او از اورشليم به بابل تبعيد شدهايد، میفرمايد:5«خانهها بسازيد و در آنها زندگی كنيد؛ درختان بكاريد و از ميوهاش بخوريد، چون سالهای زيادی در آنجا خواهيد بود.6ازدواج كنيد و صاحب فرزند شويد؛ بگذاريد فرزندانتان هم ازدواج كنند و بچهدار شوند، تا در آنجا تعدادتان افزوده شود!7خواهان آسايش و پيشرفت بابل باشيد و برای آن نزد من دعا كنيد، چون آرامش آنجا، آسايش شماست!8من كه خداوند، خدای اسرائيل هستم میگويم كه نگذاريد انبيای دروغين و فالگيرانی كه در ميان شما هستند شما را فريب دهند؛ به خوابها و رؤياها و پيشگويیهای آنها گوش ندهيد.9آنها به نام من به دروغ پيشگويی میكنند، در حالی كه من آنها را نفرستادهام.10اما وقتی هفتاد سال اسارت در بابل تمام شود، همانطور كه قول دادهام، بر شما نظر لطف خواهم انداخت و شما را به وطنتان باز خواهم گرداند.11خواست و ارادهٔ من، سعادتمندی شماست و نه بدبختیتان، و كسی بهجز من از آن آگاه نيست. من میخواهم به شما اميد و آيندهٔ خوبی ببخشم.12در آن زمان، مرا خواهيد خواند و نزد من دعا خواهيد كرد و من به دعای شما پاسخ خواهم داد؛13و اگر با تمام وجود مرا بطلبيد مرا خواهيد يافت.14بلی، يقيناً مرا خواهيد يافت و من به اسارت شما پايان خواهم بخشيد و شما را از سرزمینهایی كه شما را به آنجا تبعيد كردهام جمع كرده، به سرزمين خودتان باز خواهم آورد.15«ولی حال چون انبيای دروغين را در ميان خود راه دادهايد و میگوييد كه خداوند آنها را فرستاده است،16-18من نيز بر پادشاهی كه از خاندان داوود است و بر كسانی كه در اورشليم باقی ماندهاند، يعنی بر بستگان شما كه به بابل تبعيد نشدهاند، جنگ و قحطی و وبا خواهم فرستاد. ايشان را مانند انجيرهای گنديدهای خواهم ساخت كه قابل خوردن نيستند و بايد دور ريخته شوند! آنها را در سراسر جهان سرگردان خواهم كرد؛ در هر سرزمينی كه پراكندهشان سازم، مورد نفرين و مسخره و ملامت واقع خواهند شد و مايهٔ وحشت خواهند بود،19چون نخواستند به سخنان من گوش فرا دهند، با اينكه بارها بوسيلهٔ انبيای خود با ايشان صحبت كردم.»20همگی شما كه در بابل اسيريد، به كلام خداوند گوش دهيد.21خداوند قادر متعال، خدای اسرائيل دربارهٔ اخاب (پسر قولايا) و صدقيا (پسر معسيا) كه به نام او، پيشگويیهای دروغ میكنند، فرموده است كه آنها را به دست نبوكدنصر خواهد سپرد تا در مقابل چشمان همه كشته شوند.22سرنوشت شوم آنها برای همه ضربالمثل خواهد شد، به طوری كه هر كه بخواهد كسی را نفرين كند، خواهد گفت: «خداوند تو را به سرنوشت صدقيا و اخاب دچار كند كه پادشاه بابل آنها را زندهزنده سوزانيد!»23چون اين افراد در ميان قوم خدا گناهان قبيحی مرتكب شدهاند؛ با زنان همسايگان خود زنا كردهاند و از طرف خداوند به دروغ برای مردم پيام آوردهاند. خداوند بر همهٔ كارهای آنها ناظر و آگاه است.
نامهٔ شمعيا
24-25خداوند قادر متعال، خدای اسرائيل، دربارهٔ شمعيای نحلامی پيامی به من داد. اين شخص نامهای خطاب به مردم اورشليم، كاهنان و صفنيای كاهن (پسر معسيا) نوشته بود كه در آن به صفنيا چنين گفته بود:26«خداوند تو را به جای يهوياداع تعيين كرده تا در خانه خدا در اورشليم كاهن باشی و وظيفه تو اين است كه هر ديوانهای را كه ادعا كند نبی خداست، بگيری و در كنده و زنجير نگه داری.27پس چرا با ارميای عناتوتی چنين عمل نكردهای كه ادعا میكند از طرف خدا سخن میگويد؟28چون برای ما كه در بابليم نامه نوشته و گفته است كه سالها در اينجا اسير خواهيم ماند، و ما را تشويق كرده است كه خانهها بسازيم تا بتوانيم مدتها در آنجا زندگی كنيم و درختان ميوه بكاريم تا بتوانيم در آينده از ميوهاش بخوريم!»29صفنيا نامه را پيش من آورد و برايم خواند.30آنگاه خداوند به من فرمود كه31نامهای برای تمام تبعيدیهای بابل بفرستم و در آن چنين بنويسم: خداوند دربارهٔ شمعيای نحلامی چنين میفرمايد: «او برای شما به دروغ پيشگويی میكند و شما را فريب میدهد و میخواهد كه دروغهايش را باور كنيد، در حالی که من او را نفرستادهام.32پس من نيز او و فرزندانش را مجازات خواهم كرد و هيچكس از خانوادهٔ او در ميان شما باقی نخواهد ماند. او آن لطف و احسانی را كه در حق قومم خواهم نمود، نخواهد ديد، چون شما را بر ضد من برانگيخته است.»
