1The Lord said to Moses, “Depart; go up from here, you and the people whom you have brought up out of the land of Egypt, to the land of which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, ‘To your offspring I will give it.’ (Ge 12:7; Ex 32:7; Ex 32:13)2I will send an angel before you, and I will drive out the Canaanites, the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. (Ex 13:5; Ex 14:19)3Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey; but I will not go up among you, lest I consume you on the way, for you are a stiff-necked people.” (Ex 3:8; Ex 32:9; Ex 32:10; Ex 33:15; Nu 16:21; Nu 16:45)4When the people heard this disastrous word, they mourned, and no one put on his ornaments. (Nu 14:39; Eze 24:17; Eze 24:23; Eze 26:16)5For the Lord had said to Moses, “Say to the people of Israel, ‘You are a stiff-necked people; if for a single moment I should go up among you, I would consume you. So now take off your ornaments, that I may know what to do with you.’” (Ex 32:12; Ex 33:3; Ex 33:4)6Therefore the people of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments, from Mount Horeb onward.
The Tent of Meeting
7Now Moses used to take the tent and pitch it outside the camp, far off from the camp, and he called it the tent of meeting. And everyone who sought the Lord would go out to the tent of meeting, which was outside the camp. (Ex 29:42; De 4:29; 2Sa 21:1; 1Ch 16:10; Ps 40:16)8Whenever Moses went out to the tent, all the people would rise up, and each would stand at his tent door, and watch Moses until he had gone into the tent. (Nu 16:27)9When Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud would descend and stand at the entrance of the tent, and the Lord[1] would speak with Moses. (Ex 13:21)10And when all the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance of the tent, all the people would rise up and worship, each at his tent door.11Thus the Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. When Moses turned again into the camp, his assistant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, would not depart from the tent. (Ge 32:30; Ex 17:9; Ex 24:13; Ex 32:17; Nu 12:8; De 34:10)
Moses’ Intercession
12Moses said to the Lord, “See, you say to me, ‘Bring up this people,’ but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. Yet you have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found favor in my sight.’ (Ex 32:34; Ex 33:17)13Now therefore, if I have found favor in your sight, please show me now your ways, that I may know you in order to find favor in your sight. Consider too that this nation is your people.” (De 9:29; Ps 25:4; Ps 103:7; Joe 2:17)14And he said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” (Ex 40:34; De 3:20; Jos 1:5; Jos 21:44; Jos 22:4; Jos 23:1; Ps 95:11; Isa 63:9)15And he said to him, “If your presence will not go with me, do not bring us up from here. (Ex 33:1)16For how shall it be known that I have found favor in your sight, I and your people? from Biblica1خداوند به موسی فرمود: «اين قوم را كه از مصر بيرون آوردی به سوی سرزمينی كه وعدهٔ آن را به ابراهيم، اسحاق و يعقوب دادهام، هدايت كن، چون به آنها قول دادهام كه آن را به فرزندان ايشان ببخشم.2-3من فرشتهٔ خود را پيشاپيش تو خواهم فرستاد تا كنعانیها، اموریها، حيتیها، فرزیها، حویها و يبوسیها را از آن سرزمين كه شير و عسل در آن جاری است، بيرون برانم. اما من در اين سفر همراه شما نخواهم آمد، چون مردمی سركش هستيد و ممكن است شما را در بين راه هلاک كنم.»4وقتی قوم اين سخنان را شنيدند ماتم گرفتند و هيچكس با زيورآلات، خود را نياراست؛5چون خداوند به موسی فرموده بود به قوم اسرائيل بگويد: «شما مردمی سركش هستيد. اگر لحظهای در ميان شما باشم، شما را هلاک میكنم. پس تا زمانی كه تكليف شما را روشن نكردهام، هر نوع آلات زينتی و جواهرات را از خود دور كنيد.»6بنابراين بنیاسرائيل از آن پس زيورآلات خود را كنار گذاشتند.
ملاقات با خدا در خيمهٔ عبادت
7از آن پس، موسی خيمهٔ مقدس را كه«خيمهٔ عبادت» نامگذاری كرده بود، هميشه بيرون از اردوگاه بنیاسرائيل بر پا میكرد و كسانی كه میخواستند با خداوند راز و نياز كنند، به آنجا میرفتند.8هر وقت موسی به طرف خيمهٔ عبادت میرفت، تمام قوم دم در خيمههای خود جمع میشدند و او را تماشا میكردند.9زمانی كه موسی وارد خيمهٔ عبادت میشد، ستون ابر نازل شده بر در خيمه میايستاد و در اين ضمن خدا با موسی صحبت میكرد.10قوم اسرائيل وقتی ستون ابر را میديدند، در برابر در خيمههای خود به خاک افتاده خدا را پرستش میكردند.11در داخل خيمهٔ عبادت، خداوند مانند كسی كه با دوست خود گفتگو كند، با موسی رودررو گفتگو میكرد. سپس موسی به اردوگاه باز میگشت، ولی دستيار جوان او يوشع (پسر نون) در آنجا میماند.
خدا قول میدهد با قوم خود باشد
12موسی به خداوند عرض كرد: «تو به من میگويی اين قوم را به سرزمين موعود ببرم، ولی نمیگويی چه كسی را با من خواهی فرستاد. گفتهای: تو را به نام میشناسم و مورد لطف من قرار گرفتهای.13پس اگر حقيقت اينطور است مرا به راهی كه بايد بروم راهنمايی كن تا تو را آن طور كه بايد بشناسم و به شايستگی در حضورت زندگی كنم. اين مردم نيز قوم تو هستند، پس لطف خود را از ايشان دريغ مدار.»14خداوند در جواب موسی فرمود: «من خود همراه شما خواهم آمد و به شما توفيق خواهم بخشيد.»15خداوند از اين جهت اين را فرمود، زيرا موسی گفته بود: «اگر با ما نمیآيی ما را نيز نگذار كه از اينجا جلوتر رويم.16اگر تو همراه ما نيايی از كجا معلوم خواهد شد كه من و قوم من مورد لطف تو قرار گرفتهايم و با ساير قومهای جهان فرق داريم؟»17خداوند فرمود: «در اين مورد هم دعای تو را اجابت میكنم، چون تو مورد لطف من قرار گرفتهای و تو را به نام میشناسم.»18موسی عرض كرد: «استدعا دارم جلال خود را به من نشان دهی.»19خداوند فرمود: «من شكوه خود را از برابر تو عبور میدهم و نام مقدس خود را در حضور تو ندا میكنم. من خداوند هستم و بر هر كس كه بخواهم رحم و شفقت میكنم.20من نخواهم گذاشت چهرهٔ مرا ببينی، چون انسان نمیتواند مرا ببيند و زنده بماند.21حال برخيز و روی اين صخره، كنار من بايست.22وقتی جلال من میگذرد، تو را در شكاف اين صخره میگذارم و با دستم تو را میپوشانم تا از اينجا عبور كنم؛23سپس دست خود را برمیدارم تا مرا از پشت ببينی، اما چهرهٔ مرا نخواهی ديد.»
