1One Sabbath, when he went to dine at the house of a ruler of the Pharisees, they were watching him carefully. (Mr 3:2; Lu 7:36; Lu 11:37; Lu 20:20)2And behold, there was a man before him who had dropsy.3And Jesus responded to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath, or not?” (Mt 12:10; Lu 7:30; Lu 13:14)4But they remained silent. Then he took him and healed him and sent him away.5And he said to them, “Which of you, having a son[1] or an ox that has fallen into a well on a Sabbath day, will not immediately pull him out?” (De 22:4; Mt 12:11; Lu 13:15)6And they could not reply to these things. The Parable of the Wedding Feast
7Now he told a parable to those who were invited, when he noticed how they chose the places of honor, saying to them, (Lu 11:43)8“When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, do not sit down in a place of honor, lest someone more distinguished than you be invited by him,9and he who invited you both will come and say to you, ‘Give your place to this person,’ and then you will begin with shame to take the lowest place.10But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that when your host comes he may say to you, ‘Friend, move up higher.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at table with you. (Pr 25:6)11For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” (Pr 29:23; Eze 21:26; Mt 18:4; Lu 18:14; Jas 4:6; Jas 4:10; 1Pe 5:5)
The Parable of the Great Banquet
12He said also to the man who had invited him, “When you give a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers[2] or your relatives or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return and you be repaid. (Lu 6:34; Joh 21:12)13But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, (Ne 8:10; Ne 8:12; Es 9:22; Lu 14:21)14and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.” (Joh 11:24; Ac 24:15; 1Co 15:23; 1Th 4:16; Re 20:4)15When one of those who reclined at table with him heard these things, he said to him, “Blessed is everyone who will eat bread in the kingdom of God!” (Lu 13:29; Lu 22:16; Lu 22:30; Re 19:9)16But he said to him, “A man once gave a great banquet and invited many. (Isa 25:6; Mt 22:2)17And at the time for the banquet he sent his servant[3] to say to those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’ (Es 6:14; Pr 9:3; Pr 9:5)18But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said to him, ‘I have bought a field, and I must go out and see it. Please have me excused.’19And another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to examine them. Please have me excused.’20And another said, ‘I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.’ (De 24:5)21So the servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house became angry and said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly to the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor and crippled and blind and lame.’ (Lu 14:13)22And the servant said, ‘Sir, what you commanded has been done, and still there is room.’23And the master said to the servant, ‘Go out to the highways and hedges and compel people to come in, that my house may be filled.24For I tell you,[4] none of those men who were invited shall taste my banquet.’” (Mt 21:43; Ac 13:46)
The Cost of Discipleship
25Now great crowds accompanied him, and he turned and said to them,26“If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. (De 33:9; Mt 10:37; Lu 14:33; Lu 16:13; Joh 12:25; Ac 20:24; Re 12:11)27Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. (Mt 10:38; Mt 16:24; Mr 8:34; Lu 9:23; Joh 19:17)28For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? (Pr 24:27)29Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him,30saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’31Or what king, going out to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and deliberate whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? (Lu 14:28)32And if not, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace.33So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple. (Lu 14:26; Lu 18:28; Php 3:7)
Salt Without Taste Is Worthless
34“Salt is good, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? (Mt 5:13; Mr 9:50)35It is of no use either for the soil or for the manure pile. It is thrown away. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” (Mt 11:15)
1Într‑o zi de Sabat, Isus a intrat să mănânce în casa unuia dintre conducătorii fariseilor. Ei Îl urmăreau îndeaproape.2Și iată că înaintea Lui era un om bolnav de dropică[1].3Isus i‑a întrebat pe învățătorii Legii și pe farisei: – Este voie să vindeci în ziua de Sabat sau nu?4Ei însă tăceau. Isus l‑a luat de mână, l‑a vindecat și l‑a lăsat să plece.5Apoi le‑a zis: – Cine dintre voi, când îi cade fiul sau boul într‑un puț, nu‑l va scoate imediat afară în ziua de Sabat?6Și n‑au putut să‑I răspundă nimic la aceste cuvinte.
Smerenie și ospitalitate
7Când i‑a văzut pe cei invitați cum își aleg scaunele de onoare, le‑a spus următoarea pildă:8– Când ești invitat de cineva la o nuntă, să nu te așezi să mănânci în locul de onoare, ca nu cumva să fi fost invitat, de către gazdă, cineva mai de seamă decât tine,9iar cel ce te‑a invitat și pe tine, și pe el, să vină să‑ți spună: „Dă locul tău acestui om!“ Atunci, cu rușine, va trebui să ocupi cel din urmă loc.10Ci tu, când ești invitat, du‑te și așază‑te să mănânci în cel din urmă loc, pentru ca atunci când vine cel ce te‑a invitat, să‑ți spună: „Prietene, mută‑te mai în față!“ Atunci vei avea cinste înaintea tuturor celor ce șed la masă împreună cu tine.11Căci oricine se înalță pe sine, va fi smerit, și oricine se smerește, va fi înălțat.12Apoi i‑a zis și celui ce‑L invitase: – Când dai un prânz sau o cină, nu‑ți invita nici prietenii, nici frații, nici rudele, nici vecinii bogați, ca nu cumva să te invite și ei pe tine și să fii astfel răsplătit.13Ci tu, când dai un ospăț, invită‑i pe cei săraci, pe cei infirmi, pe cei ologi, pe cei orbi,14și vei fi fericit, pentru că ei n‑au cu ce să te răsplătească, dar vei fi răsplătit la învierea celor drepți.
Pilda celor invitați la cină
15Când a auzit acestea, unul dintre cei ce ședeau la masă I‑a zis: – Fericit este oricine va mânca[2] în Împărăția lui Dumnezeu! (Mt 22:1)16Dar Isus i‑a răspuns: – Un om a dat o cină mare și i‑a invitat pe mulți.17La ora cinei, și‑a trimis sclavul să le spună celor invitați: „Veniți, căci acum toate sunt gata!“18Dar toți, unul după altul, au început să se scuze.[3] Primul i‑a zis: „Am cumpărat un ogor și am nevoie să mă duc să‑l văd. Te rog să mă scuzi!“19Altul i‑a zis: „Am cumpărat cinci perechi de boi și mă duc să‑i pun la probă. Te rog să mă scuzi!“20Altul i‑a zis: „Tocmai m‑am însurat și de aceea nu pot să vin!“21Când sclavul s‑a întors, i‑a istorisit stăpânului său aceste lucruri. Atunci stăpânul casei s‑a mâniat și i‑a zis sclavului său: „Ieși repede pe străzile și pe aleile cetății și adu‑i aici pe cei săraci, pe cei infirmi, pe cei orbi și pe cei ologi!“22La urmă, sclavul a zis: „Stăpâne, s‑a făcut ce ai poruncit și tot mai este loc!“23Stăpânul i‑a zis atunci sclavului: „Ieși pe drumuri și pe la garduri și silește‑i pe oameni să vină, ca să mi se umple casa!24Căci vă spun că niciunul dintre acei oameni care fuseseră invitați nu va gusta din cina mea!“
Costul uceniciei
25Împreună cu El mergeau mulțimi mari de oameni. El S‑a întors și le‑a zis: (Mt 5:13; Mt 10:37; Mr 9:50)26„Dacă vine cineva la Mine și nu‑și urăște[4] tatăl, mama, soția, copiii, frații, surorile, ba chiar însăși viața sa, nu poate fi ucenicul Meu. (Mt 10:37)27Oricine nu‑și duce crucea și nu vine după Mine nu poate fi ucenicul Meu.28Căci cine dintre voi, dacă vrea să construiască un turn, nu stă mai întâi să calculeze costul, ca să vadă dacă are cu ce să‑l termine?29Pentru ca nu cumva, după ce‑i pune temelia, să nu‑l poată termina și toți cei care văd aceasta să înceapă să‑și bată joc de el30și să zică: «Omul acesta a început să construiască și n‑a putut să termine!»31Sau care rege, când pornește la război împotriva altui rege, nu se așază mai întâi să hotărască dacă este în stare să i se opună cu zece mii de oameni celui ce vine împotriva lui cu douăzeci de mii?!32Dacă nu poate, atunci, în timp ce acesta este încă departe, îi va trimite o solie ca să ceară pace.33Tot așa, oricine dintre voi, care nu renunță la toate bunurile lui, nu poate fi ucenicul Meu.34Sarea este bună. Dar dacă sarea și‑a pierdut puterea de a săra, prin ce va fi făcută din nou sărată?!35Nu mai este de folos nici pentru pământ și nici pentru grămada de gunoi, ci oamenii o aruncă afară. Cel ce are urechi de auzit, să audă!“
