1And the people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the Lord after Ehud died. (Jud 2:19)2And the Lord sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor. The commander of his army was Sisera, who lived in Harosheth-hagoyim. (Jos 11:1; Jos 11:10; Jud 2:14; Jud 4:13; Jud 4:16; 1Sa 12:9; Ps 83:9)3Then the people of Israel cried out to the Lord for help, for he had 900 chariots of iron and he oppressed the people of Israel cruelly for twenty years. (Jud 1:19; Jud 3:9; Jud 4:13)4Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, was judging Israel at that time.5She used to sit under the palm of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim, and the people of Israel came up to her for judgment. (Jos 24:33)6She sent and summoned Barak the son of Abinoam from Kedesh-naphtali and said to him, “Has not the Lord, the God of Israel, commanded you, ‘Go, gather your men at Mount Tabor, taking 10,000 from the people of Naphtali and the people of Zebulun. (Jos 19:37; Jud 8:18; Heb 11:32)7And I will draw out Sisera, the general of Jabin’s army, to meet you by the river Kishon with his chariots and his troops, and I will give him into your hand’?” (Jud 3:28; Jud 4:13; Jud 5:21; 1Ki 18:40; Ps 83:9)8Barak said to her, “If you will go with me, I will go, but if you will not go with me, I will not go.”9And she said, “I will surely go with you. Nevertheless, the road on which you are going will not lead to your glory, for the Lord will sell Sisera into the hand of a woman.” Then Deborah arose and went with Barak to Kedesh. (Jud 2:14)10And Barak called out Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh. And 10,000 men went up at his heels, and Deborah went up with him. (Jud 5:18)11Now Heber the Kenite had separated from the Kenites, the descendants of Hobab the father-in-law of Moses, and had pitched his tent as far away as the oak in Zaanannim, which is near Kedesh. (Nu 10:29; Jos 19:33; Jud 1:16)12When Sisera was told that Barak the son of Abinoam had gone up to Mount Tabor,13Sisera called out all his chariots, 900 chariots of iron, and all the men who were with him, from Harosheth-hagoyim to the river Kishon. (Jud 4:3)14And Deborah said to Barak, “Up! For this is the day in which the Lord has given Sisera into your hand. Does not the Lord go out before you?” So Barak went down from Mount Tabor with 10,000 men following him. (De 9:3; Jud 4:7; 2Sa 5:24; Ps 68:7; Isa 52:12)15And the Lord routed Sisera and all his chariots and all his army before Barak by the edge of the sword. And Sisera got down from his chariot and fled away on foot. (Jos 10:10; Jud 4:23; Ps 83:9)16And Barak pursued the chariots and the army to Harosheth-hagoyim, and all the army of Sisera fell by the edge of the sword; not a man was left.17But Sisera fled away on foot to the tent of Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite, for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.18And Jael came out to meet Sisera and said to him, “Turn aside, my lord; turn aside to me; do not be afraid.” So he turned aside to her into the tent, and she covered him with a rug.19And he said to her, “Please give me a little water to drink, for I am thirsty.” So she opened a skin of milk and gave him a drink and covered him. (Jud 5:25)20And he said to her, “Stand at the opening of the tent, and if any man comes and asks you, ‘Is anyone here?’ say, ‘No.’”21But Jael the wife of Heber took a tent peg, and took a hammer in her hand. Then she went softly to him and drove the peg into his temple until it went down into the ground while he was lying fast asleep from weariness. So he died.22And behold, as Barak was pursuing Sisera, Jael went out to meet him and said to him, “Come, and I will show you the man whom you are seeking.” So he went in to her tent, and there lay Sisera dead, with the tent peg in his temple.23So on that day God subdued Jabin the king of Canaan before the people of Israel. (Jud 4:15)24And the hand of the people of Israel pressed harder and harder against Jabin the king of Canaan, until they destroyed Jabin king of Canaan.

Fiii lui Israel se suiau la ea pentru judecată.6Ea a trimis la Barak, fiul lui Abinoam, să fie chemat din Kedeș în Neftali, și i‑a zis: – N‑a poruncit DOMNUL, Dumnezeul lui Israel, astfel: „Du‑te, îndreaptă‑te spre muntele Tabor și ia cu tine zece mii de bărbați dintre fiii lui Neftali și dintre fiii lui Zabulon?7Îl voi atrage pe Sisera, conducătorul oștirii lui Iabin, spre tine, la râul Chișon, cu toate carele și oștirile lui și‑l voi da în mâinile tale.“8Barak i‑a răspuns: – Dacă vei merge și tu cu mine, atunci voi merge și eu, dar dacă nu vei merge cu mine, nu voi merge nici eu!9Ea i‑a zis: – Voi merge sigur cu tine, dar, în felul acesta, gloria nu va fi a ta, căci DOMNUL îl va da pe Sisera în mâinile unei femei! Apoi Debora s‑a ridicat și a plecat cu Barak la Kedeș.10Barak i‑a chemat la Kedeș pe cei din Zabulon și din Neftali. Zece mii de bărbați s‑au suit în urma lui, iar Debora s‑a suit cu el.11Chenitul Heber se separase de cheniți, urmașii lui Hobab, socrul[3] lui Moise, și își așezase cortul lângă stejarul din Țaananim, în apropiere de Kedeș.12L‑au înștiințat pe Sisera că Barak, fiul lui Abinoam, a urcat spre muntele Tabor.13Atunci Sisera și‑a pus în mișcare toate cele nouă sute de care de fier și tot poporul care era cu el, de la Haroșet-Goyim până la râul Chișon.14Debora i‑a zis lui Barak: „Ridică‑te, căci aceasta este ziua în care a dat DOMNUL pe Sisera în mâinile tale! Oare n‑a ieșit DOMNUL înaintea ta?“ Barak a coborât de pe muntele Tabor cu cei zece mii de bărbați după el.15Prin ascuțișul sabiei, DOMNUL l‑a nimicit pe Sisera dinaintea lui Barak, cu toate carele și cu toată tabăra lui. Sisera s‑a dat jos din car și a fugit pe jos.16Barak a urmărit carele și tabăra până la Haroșet-Goyim și toată tabăra lui Sisera a căzut sub ascuțișul sabiei. N‑a mai rămas nici măcar unul.17Sisera însă a reușit să fugă până la cortul Iaelei, soția chenitului Heber, căci între Iabin, regele Hațorului, și familia chenitului Heber era pace.18Iael a ieșit să‑l întâmpine pe Sisera și i‑a zis: – Intră[4], stăpâne, intră la mine! Nu te teme! Astfel, el a intrat la ea în cort, iar ea l‑a ascuns sub o carpetă.19El i‑a zis: – Te rog, dă‑mi să beau puțină apă căci sunt însetat! Ea a deschis un burduf cu lapte, i‑a dat să bea și apoi l‑a ascuns din nou.20El i‑a zis: – Stai la intrarea cortului, iar dacă vine vreun om și te întreabă: „Este vreun bărbat aici?“, tu să‑i răspunzi: „Nu“.21După aceea, Iael, soția lui Heber, a luat un țăruș de‑al cortului, a pus mâna pe un ciocan, a intrat pe ascuns în cort și i‑a înfipt lui Sisera țărușul în tâmplă, pironindu‑l astfel în pământ. Acesta adormise adânc pentru că era epuizat. Și astfel, el a murit.22În timp ce Barak îl urmărea pe Sisera, Iael a ieșit să‑l întâmpine și i‑a zis: „Vino ca să ți‑l arăt pe omul pe care îl cauți!“ A intrat la ea, și iată că Sisera zăcea mort, cu țărușul înfipt în tâmplă.23În ziua aceea, Dumnezeu l‑a supus înaintea fiilor lui Israel pe Iabin, regele din Canaan.24Și mâna fiilor lui Israel a fost din ce în ce mai puternică împotriva lui Iabin, regele Canaanului, până când l‑au nimicit pe Iabin, regele Canaanului.
