1After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, (Ex 14:31; Ex 24:13; Nu 12:7; De 1:38; De 34:5; Jos 1:13; Jos 1:15)2“Moses my servant is dead. Now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the people of Israel.3Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, just as I promised to Moses. (De 11:24; Jos 14:9)4From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun shall be your territory. (Ge 15:18; Ex 23:31; Nu 34:3)5No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you. (Ge 28:15; Ex 3:12; De 7:24; De 31:6; De 31:8; De 31:23; Jos 1:9; Jos 1:17; Jos 3:7; Jos 6:27; 1Ch 28:20; Heb 13:5)6Be strong and courageous, for you shall cause this people to inherit the land that I swore to their fathers to give them. (De 31:6; Jos 1:7; Jos 1:9; Jos 1:18)7Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success[1] wherever you go. (De 5:32; De 28:14; Jos 11:15; Jos 23:6)8This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. (Ps 1:2; Ps 119:15)9Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (De 1:29; De 7:21; De 20:3; De 31:6; De 31:8; Jos 1:6; Jos 1:18)
Joshua Assumes Command
10And Joshua commanded the officers of the people, (De 16:18)11“Pass through the midst of the camp and command the people, ‘Prepare your provisions, for within three days you are to pass over this Jordan to go in to take possession of the land that the Lord your God is giving you to possess.’” (De 9:1; De 11:31; Jos 3:2)12And to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh Joshua said,13“Remember the word that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, saying, ‘The Lord your God is providing you a place of rest and will give you this land.’ (Nu 32:20)14Your wives, your little ones, and your livestock shall remain in the land that Moses gave you beyond the Jordan, but all the men of valor among you shall pass over armed before your brothers and shall help them,15until the Lord gives rest to your brothers as he has to you, and they also take possession of the land that the Lord your God is giving them. Then you shall return to the land of your possession and shall possess it, the land that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise.” (De 3:20; Jos 22:4)16And they answered Joshua, “All that you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go.17Just as we obeyed Moses in all things, so we will obey you. Only may the Lord your God be with you, as he was with Moses! (Jos 1:5)18Whoever rebels against your commandment and disobeys your words, whatever you command him, shall be put to death. Only be strong and courageous.” (Jos 1:6; Jos 1:9)
1După moartea lui Moise, robul DOMNULUI, DOMNUL i‑a vorbit lui Iosua, fiul lui Nun, slujitorul lui Moise, zicând:2„Moise, robul Meu, a murit. Acum deci ridică‑te, traversează Iordanul, tu împreună cu tot poporul acesta, spre țara pe care o dau fiilor lui Israel.3Vă voi da orice teritoriu peste care va călca talpa piciorului vostru, întocmai cum i‑am promis lui Moise.4Teritoriul vostru se va întinde de la pustie până la Liban și de la Râul cel Mare, râul Eufrat, cuprinzând toată țara hitiților, până la Marea cea Mare[1], în apus.5Niciun om nu‑ți va putea sta împotrivă cât vei trăi. Cum am fost cu Moise, tot așa voi fi și cu tine! Nu te voi lăsa și nu te voi părăsi!6Fii tare și curajos, pentru că tu vei da în stăpânire acestui popor țara pe care am jurat că le‑o voi da părinților lor.7Fii deci tare și foarte curajos, veghind să împlinești toată Legea pe care ți‑a poruncit‑o robul Meu Moise. Nu te abate de la ea nici la dreapta, nici la stânga, ca să prosperi oriunde vei merge.8Cartea aceasta a Legii să nu să se depărteze de gura ta! Meditează asupra ei zi și noapte, veghind, astfel încât să poți împlini tot ceea ce este scris în ea, căci atunci vei reuși oriunde vei merge și vei prospera!9Oare nu Eu ți‑am poruncit: fii tare și curajos! Nu te îngrozi și nu te înspăimânta, fiindcă DOMNUL, Dumnezeul tău, este cu tine oriunde vei merge!“10Iosua le‑a poruncit supraveghetorilor poporului, zicând:11„Treceți prin tabără și porunciți poporului, zicând: «Pregătiți‑vă provizii, căci peste trei zile veți traversa Iordanul ca să intrați și să luați în stăpânire țara pe care DOMNUL, Dumnezeul vostru, v‑o dă ca moștenire.»“12Iosua le‑a zis rubeniților, gadiților și unei jumătăți a seminției lui Manase:13– Aduceți‑vă aminte ce v‑a poruncit Moise, robul DOMNULUI, când a zis: „DOMNUL, Dumnezeul vostru, vă dă odihnă și vă dă țara aceasta.“14Prin urmare, soțiile voastre, copiii voștri și vitele voastre să rămână în țara pe care v‑a dat‑o Moise în partea aceasta a Iordanului. Însă toți războinicii viteji să traverseze înarmați înaintea fraților voștri ca să‑i ajute,15până când DOMNUL, Dumnezeul vostru, va da odihnă fraților voștri asemenea vouă și până când vor lua și ei în stăpânire țara pe care DOMNUL, Dumnezeul vostru, le‑o dă. După aceea vă veți întoarce să stăpâniți țara care v‑a fost dată ca moștenire de către Moise, robul DOMNULUI, dincoace de Iordan, spre răsăritul soarelui.16Ei i‑au răspuns lui Iosua, zicând: – Vom face tot ceea ce ne‑ai poruncit și vom merge oriunde ne vei trimite!17Te vom asculta tot așa cum l‑am ascultat și pe Moise! Numai să fie acum DOMNUL, Dumnezeul tău, și cu tine la fel cum a fost cu Moise.18Orice om care se va răzvrăti împotriva poruncii tale și care nu va asculta de toate cuvintele pe care ni le poruncești, va fi omorât. Tu însă fii tare și curajos!
