1Then the heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites came to Eleazar the priest and to Joshua the son of Nun and to the heads of the fathers’ houses of the tribes of the people of Israel. (Nu 34:17; Jos 14:1; Jos 17:4; Jos 19:51)2And they said to them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, “The Lord commanded through Moses that we be given cities to dwell in, along with their pasturelands for our livestock.” (Nu 35:2; Jos 18:1)3So by command of the Lord the people of Israel gave to the Levites the following cities and pasturelands out of their inheritance.4The lot came out for the clans of the Kohathites. So those Levites who were descendants of Aaron the priest received by lot from the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin, thirteen cities. (Ex 6:16; Nu 3:17; Jos 21:9)5And the rest of the Kohathites received by lot from the clans of the tribe of Ephraim, from the tribe of Dan and the half-tribe of Manasseh, ten cities. (Jos 21:20)6The Gershonites received by lot from the clans of the tribe of Issachar, from the tribe of Asher, from the tribe of Naphtali, and from the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities. (Jos 21:34)8These cities and their pasturelands the people of Israel gave by lot to the Levites, as the Lord had commanded through Moses. (Nu 35:2; Jos 14:3; Jos 21:3)9Out of the tribe of the people of Judah and the tribe of the people of Simeon they gave the following cities mentioned by name,10which went to the descendants of Aaron, one of the clans of the Kohathites who belonged to the people of Levi; since the lot fell to them first. (Jos 21:4)11They gave them Kiriath-arba (Arba being the father of Anak), that is Hebron, in the hill country of Judah, along with the pasturelands around it. (Jos 14:13; Jos 20:7; 1Ch 6:54; Lu 1:39)12But the fields of the city and its villages had been given to Caleb the son of Jephunneh as his possession.13And to the descendants of Aaron the priest they gave Hebron, the city of refuge for the manslayer, with its pasturelands, Libnah with its pasturelands, (Jos 10:29; Jos 20:7)14Jattir with its pasturelands, Eshtemoa with its pasturelands,15Holon with its pasturelands, Debir with its pasturelands,16Ain with its pasturelands, Juttah with its pasturelands, Beth-shemesh with its pasturelands—nine cities out of these two tribes;17then out of the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon with its pasturelands, Geba with its pasturelands, (Jos 9:3)18Anathoth with its pasturelands, and Almon with its pasturelands—four cities.19The cities of the descendants of Aaron, the priests, were in all thirteen cities with their pasturelands.20As to the rest of the Kohathites belonging to the Kohathite clans of the Levites, the cities allotted to them were out of the tribe of Ephraim. (1Ch 6:66)21To them were given Shechem, the city of refuge for the manslayer, with its pasturelands in the hill country of Ephraim, Gezer with its pasturelands, (Jos 20:7)22Kibzaim with its pasturelands, Beth-horon with its pasturelands—four cities;23and out of the tribe of Dan, Elteke with its pasturelands, Gibbethon with its pasturelands,24Aijalon with its pasturelands, Gath-rimmon with its pasturelands—four cities;25and out of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Taanach with its pasturelands, and Gath-rimmon with its pasturelands—two cities.26The cities of the clans of the rest of the Kohathites were ten in all with their pasturelands.27And to the Gershonites, one of the clans of the Levites, were given out of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan with its pasturelands, the city of refuge for the manslayer, and Beeshterah with its pasturelands—two cities; (Jos 21:21; 1Ch 6:71)28and out of the tribe of Issachar, Kishion with its pasturelands, Daberath with its pasturelands,29Jarmuth with its pasturelands, En-gannim with its pasturelands—four cities;30and out of the tribe of Asher, Mishal with its pasturelands, Abdon with its pasturelands,31Helkath with its pasturelands, and Rehob with its pasturelands—four cities;32and out of the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee with its pasturelands, the city of refuge for the manslayer, Hammoth-dor with its pasturelands, and Kartan with its pasturelands—three cities. (Jos 21:21)33The cities of the several clans of the Gershonites were in all thirteen cities with their pasturelands.34And to the rest of the Levites, the Merarite clans, were given out of the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam with its pasturelands, Kartah with its pasturelands, (1Ch 6:77)35Dimnah with its pasturelands, Nahalal with its pasturelands—four cities;36and out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer with its pasturelands, Jahaz with its pasturelands, (Jos 20:8)37Kedemoth with its pasturelands, and Mephaath with its pasturelands—four cities;38and out of the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead with its pasturelands, the city of refuge for the manslayer, Mahanaim with its pasturelands, (Jos 13:26; Jos 21:36)39Heshbon with its pasturelands, Jazer with its pasturelands—four cities in all. (Jos 21:38)40As for the cities of the several Merarite clans, that is, the remainder of the clans of the Levites, those allotted to them were in all twelve cities.41The cities of the Levites in the midst of the possession of the people of Israel were in all forty-eight cities with their pasturelands. (Nu 35:7)42These cities each had its pasturelands around it. So it was with all these cities.43Thus the Lord gave to Israel all the land that he swore to give to their fathers. And they took possession of it, and they settled there. (Ge 13:15; Ge 15:18; Ge 26:3; Ge 28:4; Ge 28:13)44And the Lord gave them rest on every side just as he had sworn to their fathers. Not one of all their enemies had withstood them, for the Lord had given all their enemies into their hands. (De 7:24; Jos 2:24; Jos 10:8; Jos 11:23; Jos 23:9)45Not one word of all the good promises that the Lord had made to the house of Israel had failed; all came to pass. (Jos 23:14)

The Levites who were descendants of Aaron the priest were allotted thirteen towns from the tribes of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin.5The rest of Kohath’s descendants were allotted ten towns from the clans of the tribes of Ephraim, Dan and half of Manasseh.6The descendants of Gershon were allotted thirteen towns from the clans of the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali and the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan.7The descendants of Merari, according to their clans, received twelve towns from the tribes of Reuben, Gad and Zebulun.8So the Israelites allotted to the Levites these towns and their pasture-lands, as the Lord had commanded through Moses.9They allotted towns by name from the tribes of Judah and Simeon.10The following towns were assigned to the descendants of Aaron who were from the Kohathite clans of the Levites, because the first lot fell to them:11They gave them Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron), with its surrounding pasture-land, in the hill country of Judah. (Arba was the forefather of Anak.)12But the fields and villages around the city they had given to Caleb son of Jephunneh as his possession.13So to the descendants of Aaron the priest they gave Hebron (a city of refuge for one accused of murder), Libnah,14Jattir, Eshtemoa,15Holon, Debir,16Ain, Juttah and Beth Shemesh, together with their pasture-lands – nine towns from these two tribes.17And from the tribe of Benjamin they gave them: Gibeon, Geba,18Anathoth and Almon, together with their pasture-lands – four towns.19The total number of towns for the priests, the descendants of Aaron, came to thirteen, together with their pasture-lands.20The rest of the Kohathite clans of the Levites were allotted towns from the tribe of Ephraim:21In the hill country of Ephraim they were given: Shechem (a city of refuge for one accused of murder) and Gezer,22Kibzaim and Beth Horon, together with their pasture-lands – four towns.23Also from the tribe of Dan they received: Eltekeh, Gibbethon,24Aijalon and Gath Rimmon, together with their pasture-lands – four towns.25From half the tribe of Manasseh they received: Taanach and Gath Rimmon, together with their pasture-lands – two towns.26All these ten towns and their pasture-lands were given to the rest of the Kohathite clans.27The Levite clans of the Gershonites were given: from the half-tribe of Manasseh: Golan in Bashan (a city of refuge for one accused of murder) and Be Eshterah, together with their pasture-lands – two towns;28from the tribe of Issachar: Kishion, Daberath,29Jarmuth and En Gannim, together with their pasture-lands – four towns;30from the tribe of Asher: Mishal, Abdon,31Helkath and Rehob, together with their pasture-lands – four towns;32from the tribe of Naphtali: Kedesh in Galilee (a city of refuge for one accused of murder), Hammoth Dor and Kartan, together with their pasture-lands – three towns.33The total number of towns of the Gershonite clans came to thirteen, together with their pasture-lands.34The Merarite clans (the rest of the Levites) were given: from the tribe of Zebulun: Jokneam, Kartah,35Dimnah and Nahalal, together with their pasture-lands – four towns;36from the tribe of Reuben: Bezer, Jahaz,37Kedemoth and Mephaath, together with their pasture-lands – four towns;38from the tribe of Gad: Ramoth in Gilead (a city of refuge for one accused of murder), Mahanaim,39Heshbon and Jazer, together with their pasture-lands – four towns in all.40The total number of towns allotted to the Merarite clans, who were the rest of the Levites, came to twelve.41The towns of the Levites in the territory held by the Israelites were forty-eight in all, together with their pasture-lands.42Each of these towns had pasture-lands surrounding it; this was true for all these towns.43So the Lord gave Israel all the land he had sworn to give their ancestors, and they took possession of it and settled there.44The Lord gave them rest on every side, just as he had sworn to their ancestors. Not one of their enemies withstood them; the Lord gave all their enemies into their hands.45Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.

(Jos 19:35; 1Ch 6:61)33Toate cetățile clanurilor gherșoniților erau în număr de treisprezece, fiecare cetate cu pășunile din jur.34Celorlalți leviți care au mai rămas din clanurile urmașilor lui Merari, le‑au fost date următoarele: pe teritoriul seminției lui Zabulon le‑au dat: Iokneam cu pășunile din jur, Karta cu pășunile din jur,35Dimna cu pășunile din jur și Nahalal cu pășunile din jur – patru cetăți;36din seminția lui Ruben le‑au dat: Bețer cu pășunile din jur, Iahaț cu pășunile din jur,37Chedemot cu pășunile din jur și Mefaat cu pășunile din jur – patru cetăți;38din seminția lui Gad le‑au dat: Ramot, cetatea de refugiu pentru ucigași, care era în Ghilad, cu pășunile din jur, Mahanayim cu pășunile din jur,39Heșbon cu pășunile din jur și Iazer cu pășunile din jur – în total patru cetăți.40Toate cetățile date clanurilor urmașilor lui Merari, adică clanurilor leviților care mai rămăseseră, erau în număr de douăsprezece.41Toate cetățile leviților care erau pe teritoriul fiilor lui Israel, împreună cu pășunile din jur, erau în număr de patruzeci și opt.42Fiecare din aceste cetăți își avea pășunile ei de jur împrejur; așa era fiecare dintre aceste cetăți.
Împlinirea promisiunilor
43DOMNUL a dat astfel lui Israel toată țara pe care a jurat părinților lor că le‑o va da, iar ei au luat‑o în stăpânire și au locuit în ea.44DOMNUL le‑a dat odihnă din toate părțile, așa cum jurase părinților lor. Nimeni nu le‑a putut sta împotrivă. DOMNUL i‑a dat pe toți dușmanii în mâna lor.45Nu a rămas neîmplinit niciunul din lucrurile bune pe care DOMNUL le‑a promis Casei lui Israel. Toate s‑au împlinit.
