Psalm 27

English Standard Version

from Crossway

The Lord Is My Light and My Salvation

1 Of David. The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold[1] of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? (Ex 15:2; Ps 23:4; Ps 84:11; Ps 118:14; Isa 12:2; Isa 60:20; Isa 62:11; Mic 7:8) 2 When evildoers assail me to eat up my flesh, my adversaries and foes, it is they who stumble and fall. (Ps 14:4) 3 Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet[2] I will be confident. (Ps 3:6) 4 One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire[3] in his temple. (Ps 23:6; Ps 26:8; Ps 65:4; Ps 84:1; Ps 90:17; Lu 2:37) 5 For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock. (Job 5:21; Ps 31:20; Ps 40:2; Ps 91:1; Isa 4:6) 6 And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me, and I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to the Lord. (Nu 10:10; Ps 3:3; Eph 5:19; Col 3:16) 7 Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud; be gracious to me and answer me! (Ps 30:10) 8 You have said, “Seek[4] my face.” My heart says to you, “Your face, Lord, do I seek.”[5] (Ps 24:6; Ps 105:4) 9 Hide not your face from me. Turn not your servant away in anger, O you who have been my help. Cast me not off; forsake me not, O God of my salvation! (Ps 24:5; Ps 69:17; Ps 102:2; Ps 143:7) 10 For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me in. (Isa 40:11; Isa 49:15; Isa 63:16) 11 Teach me your way, O Lord, and lead me on a level path because of my enemies. (Ps 5:8; Ps 25:4) 12 Give me not up to the will of my adversaries; for false witnesses have risen against me, and they breathe out violence. (1Ki 21:13; Ps 35:11; Ps 41:2; Mt 26:59; Mr 14:55; Ac 9:1) 13 I believe that I shall look[6] upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! (Ex 33:19; Job 28:13; Ps 52:5; Ps 116:9; Ps 142:5) 14 Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord! (De 31:7; Jos 1:6; Jos 1:9; Jos 1:18; Ps 31:24; Ps 37:34; Ps 62:5; Pr 20:22)

Psalm 27

New International Version

from Biblica

Of David.

1 The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid? 2 When the wicked advance against me to devour[1] me, it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall. 3 Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident. 4 One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. 5 For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock. 6 Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his sacred tent I will sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the Lord. 7 Hear my voice when I call, Lord; be merciful to me and answer me. 8 My heart says of you, ‘Seek his face!’ Your face, Lord, I will seek. 9 Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper. Do not reject me or forsake me, God my Saviour. 10 Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me. 11 Teach me your way, Lord; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors. 12 Do not hand me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, spouting malicious accusations. 13 I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. 14 Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.

Psalm 27

New International Reader’s Version

from Biblica

A psalm of David.

1 The LORD is my light, and he saves me. Why should I fear anyone? The LORD is my place of safety. Why should I be afraid? 2 My enemies are evil. They will trip and fall when they attack me and try to swallow me up. 3 Even if an army attacks me, my heart will not be afraid. Even if war breaks out against me, I will still trust in God. 4 I’m asking the LORD for only one thing. Here is what I want. I want to live in the house of the LORD all the days of my life. I want to look at the beauty of the LORD. I want to worship him in his temple. 5 When I’m in trouble, he will keep me safe in his house. He will hide me in the safety of his holy tent. He will put me on a rock that is very high. 6 Then I will win the battle over my enemies who are all around me. At his holy tent I will offer my sacrifice with shouts of joy. I will sing and make music to the LORD. 7 LORD, hear my voice when I call out to you. Treat me with kindness and answer me. 8 My heart says, ‘Seek him!’ LORD, I will seek you. 9 Don’t turn your face away from me. Don’t turn me away because you are angry. You have helped me. God my Saviour, don’t say no to me. Don’t desert me. 10 My father and mother may desert me, but the LORD will accept me. 11 LORD, teach me your ways. Lead me along a straight path. There are many people who treat me badly. 12 My enemies want to harm me. So don’t turn me over to them. Witnesses who tell lies are rising up against me. They say all sorts of evil things about me. 13 Here is something I am still sure of. I will see the LORD’s goodness while I’m still alive. 14 Wait for the LORD. Be strong and don’t lose hope. Wait for the LORD.

Psalm 27

King James Version

1 A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? 2 When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. 3 Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident. 4 One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple. 5 For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock. 6 And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD. 7 Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me. 8 When thou saidst , Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek. 9 Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation. 10 When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up. 11 Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies. 12 Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty. 13 I had fainted , unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. 14 Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

8 Mein Herz denkt an dich: / Suchet mein Angesicht! Dein Angesicht, HERR, will ich suchen. (Ps 31:25)
