Paying Taxes to Caesar
15Then the Pharisees went and plotted how to entangle him in his words. (Mr 12:13; Lu 11:54; Lu 20:20)16And they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are true and teach the way of God truthfully, and you do not care about anyone’s opinion, for you are not swayed by appearances.[2] (Mr 2:18; Mr 3:6; Mr 8:15; Joh 3:2; Ac 10:34; Ac 13:10; Ac 18:26)17Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” (Mt 17:25; Lu 2:1; Lu 3:1)18But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, “Why put me to the test, you hypocrites? Sadducees Ask About the Resurrection
23The same day Sadducees came to him, who say that there is no resurrection, and they asked him a question, (Mt 3:7; Mt 16:1; Mt 22:34; Ac 4:1; Ac 4:2; Ac 5:17; Ac 23:6; Ac 23:8)24saying, “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies having no children, his brother must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother.’ (De 25:5)25Now there were seven brothers among us. The first married and died, and having no offspring left his wife to his brother.26So too the second and third, down to the seventh.27After them all, the woman died.28In the resurrection, therefore, of the seven, whose wife will she be? For they all had her.”29But Jesus answered them, “You are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God. (Joh 20:9; 1Co 6:14)30For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. The Great Commandment
34But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. (Mt 22:23; Mr 12:28)35And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. (Mt 22:18; Lu 7:30; Lu 10:25)36“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?”37And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. (De 6:5; Lu 10:27)38This is the great and first commandment.39And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. (Le 19:18; Le 19:19; 1Jo 4:21)40On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” (Mt 7:12; Ro 13:8; Ro 13:10; Ga 5:14)
Whose Son Is the Christ?
41Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question, (Mt 22:34; Mr 12:35; Lu 20:41)42saying, “What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?” They said to him, “The son of David.” (Mt 1:1; Mt 1:17)43He said to them, “How is it then that David, in the Spirit, calls him Lord, saying, (2Sa 23:2; Re 1:10; Re 4:2)44“‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand, until I put your enemies under your feet”’? (Ps 110:1; Ac 2:34; Ac 2:35; 1Co 15:25; Heb 1:13; Heb 10:13)45If then David calls him Lord, how is he his son?” (Ro 1:3; Ro 1:4)46And no one was able to answer him a word, nor from that day did anyone dare to ask him any more questions. Paying the poll-tax to Caesar
15Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap him in his words.16They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians. ‘Teacher,’ they said, ‘we know that you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are.17Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay the poll-tax[1] to Caesar or not?’18But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, ‘You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me?19Show me the coin used for paying the tax.’ They brought him a denarius,20and he asked them, ‘Whose image is this? And whose inscription?’21‘Caesar’s,’ they replied. Then he said to them, ‘So give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.’22When they heard this, they were amazed. So they left him and went away.
Marriage at the resurrection

The greatest commandment
34Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together.35One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question:36‘Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?’37Jesus replied: ‘ “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” (De 6:5)38This is the first and greatest commandment.39And the second is like it: “Love your neighbour as yourself.” (Le 19:18)40All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.’
Whose son is the Messiah?
41While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,42‘What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he?’ ‘The son of David,’ they replied.43He said to them, ‘How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him “Lord”? For he says,44‘ “The Lord said to my Lord: ‘Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet.’ ” (Ps 110:1)45If then David calls him “Lord”, how can he be his son?’46No-one could say a word in reply, and from that day on no-one dared to ask him any more questions.

Is it right to pay the royal tax to Caesar?
15The Pharisees went out. They made plans to trap Jesus with his own words.16They sent their followers to him. They sent the Herodians with them. ‘Teacher’, they said, ‘we know that you are a man of honour. You teach the way of God truthfully. You don’t let others tell you what to do or say. You don’t care how important they are.17Tell us then, what do you think? Is it right to pay the royal tax to Caesar or not?’18But Jesus knew their evil plans. He said, ‘You pretenders! Why are you trying to trap me?19Show me the coin people use for paying the tax.’ They brought him a silver coin.20He asked them, ‘Whose picture is this? And whose words?’21‘Caesar’s,’ they replied. Then he said to them, ‘So give back to Caesar what belongs to Caesar. And give back to God what belongs to God.’22When they heard this, they were amazed. So they left him and went away.
Marriage when the dead rise
23That same day the Sadducees came to Jesus with a question. They do not believe that people rise from the dead.24‘Teacher’, they said, ‘here is what Moses told us. If a man dies without having children, his brother must get married to the widow. He must provide children to carry on his brother’s name.25There were seven brothers among us. The first one got married and died. Since he had no children, he left his wife to his brother.26The same thing happened to the second and third brothers. It happened right on down to the seventh brother.27Finally, the woman died.28Now then, when the dead rise, whose wife will she be? All seven of them were married to her.’29Jesus replied, ‘You are mistaken, because you do not know the Scriptures. And you do not know the power of God.30When the dead rise, they won’t get married. And their parents won’t give them to be married. They will be like the angels in heaven.31What about the dead rising? Haven’t you read what God said to you?32He said, “I am the God of Abraham. I am the God of Isaac. And I am the God of Jacob.” He is not the God of the dead. He is the God of the living.’ (Ex 3:6)33When the crowds heard this, they were amazed by what he taught.
The most important commandment
34The Pharisees heard that the Sadducees weren’t able to answer Jesus. So the Pharisees got together.35One of them was an authority on the law. So he tested Jesus with a question.36‘Teacher’, he asked, ‘which is the most important commandment in the Law?’37Jesus replied, ‘ “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Love him with all your mind.” (De 6:5)38This is the first and most important commandment.39And the second is like it. “Love your neighbour as you love yourself.” (Le 19:18)40Everything that is written in the Law and the Prophets is based on these two commandments.’
Whose son is the Messiah?
41The Pharisees were gathered together. Jesus asked them,42‘What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he?’ ‘The son of David,’ they replied.43He said to them, ‘Then why does David call him “Lord”? The Holy Spirit spoke through David himself. David said,44‘ “The Lord said to my Lord, ‘Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your control.’ ” (Ps 110:1)45So if David calls him “Lord”, how can he be David’s son?’46No one could give any answer to him. From that day on, no one dared to ask him any more questions.

Die Frage nach der kaiserlichen Steuer
15Damals kamen die Pharisäer zusammen und beschlossen, Jesus mit einer Frage eine Falle zu stellen. (Mr 12:13; Lu 20:20)16Sie veranlassten ihre Jünger, zusammen mit den Anhängern des Herodes zu ihm zu gehen und zu sagen: Meister, wir wissen, dass du die Wahrheit sagst und wahrhaftig den Weg Gottes lehrst und auf niemanden Rücksicht nimmst, denn du siehst nicht auf die Person.17Sag uns also: Was meinst du? Ist es erlaubt, dem Kaiser Steuer zu zahlen, oder nicht?18Jesus aber erkannte ihre böse Absicht und sagte: Ihr Heuchler, warum versucht ihr mich?19Zeigt mir die Münze, mit der ihr eure Steuern bezahlt! Die Frage nach der Auferstehung der Toten
23Am selben Tag kamen zu Jesus einige von den Sadduzäern, die behaupten, es gebe keine Auferstehung. Sie fragten ihn: (Mr 12:18; Lu 20:27; Ac 23:8)24Meister, Mose hat gesagt: Wenn ein Mann stirbt, ohne Kinder zu haben, dann soll sein Bruder dessen Frau heiraten und seinem Bruder Nachkommen verschaffen. (Ge 38:8; De 25:5)25Bei uns lebten einmal sieben Brüder. Der erste heiratete und starb, und weil er keine Nachkommen hatte, hinterließ er seine Frau seinem Bruder,26ebenso der zweite und der dritte und so weiter bis zum siebten.27Als letzte von allen starb die Frau.28Wessen Frau wird sie nun bei der Auferstehung sein? Alle sieben haben sie doch zur Frau gehabt.29Jesus antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Ihr irrt euch; ihr kennt weder die Schrift noch die Macht Gottes.30Denn nach der Auferstehung heiratet man nicht, noch wird man geheiratet, sondern die Menschen sind wie Engel im Himmel.31Habt ihr im Übrigen nicht gelesen, was Gott euch über die Auferstehung der Toten mit den Worten gesagt hat:32Ich bin der Gott Abrahams, der Gott Isaaks und der Gott Jakobs? Die Frage nach dem wichtigsten Gebot
34Als die Pharisäer hörten, dass Jesus die Sadduzäer zum Schweigen gebracht hatte, kamen sie am selben Ort zusammen. (Mr 12:28; Lu 10:25)35Einer von ihnen, ein Gesetzeslehrer, wollte ihn versuchen und fragte ihn: (Mt 16:1; Mt 19:3; Mt 22:18)36Meister, welches Gebot im Gesetz ist das wichtigste?37Er antwortete ihm: Du sollst den Herrn, deinen Gott, lieben mit ganzem Herzen, mit ganzer Seele und mit deinem ganzen Denken. (De 6:5)38Das ist das wichtigste und erste Gebot.39Ebenso wichtig ist das zweite: Du sollst deinen Nächsten lieben wie dich selbst. (Le 19:18; Mt 5:43; Ro 13:9; Ga 5:14)40An diesen beiden Geboten hängt das ganze Gesetz und die Propheten. (Mt 7:12)

Sie antworteten ihm: Der Sohn Davids.43Er sagte zu ihnen: Wie kann ihn dann David im Geist Herr nennen?
