1The Spirit lifted me up and brought me to the east gate of the house of the Lord, which faces east. And behold, at the entrance of the gateway there were twenty-five men. And I saw among them Jaazaniah the son of Azzur, and Pelatiah the son of Benaiah, princes of the people. (Jer 28:1; Eze 3:12; Eze 8:16; Eze 10:19; Eze 11:13; Eze 11:24)2And he said to me, “Son of man, these are the men who devise iniquity and who give wicked counsel in this city; (Eze 2:1)3who say, ‘The time is not near[1] to build houses. This city is the cauldron, and we are the meat.’ (Jer 29:28; Eze 12:22; Eze 12:27; Eze 24:3; Eze 24:6)4Therefore prophesy against them; prophesy, O son of man.”5And the Spirit of the Lord fell upon me, and he said to me, “Say, Thus says the Lord: So you think, O house of Israel. For I know the things that come into your mind. (Isa 29:15; Eze 2:2; Eze 20:32; Eze 38:10)6You have multiplied your slain in this city and have filled its streets with the slain. (Eze 7:23)7Therefore thus says the Lord God: Your slain whom you have laid in the midst of it, they are the meat, and this city is the cauldron, but you shall be brought out of the midst of it. (Eze 11:3; Eze 24:7)8You have feared the sword, and I will bring the sword upon you, declares the Lord God. (Jer 42:16)9And I will bring you out of the midst of it, and give you into the hands of foreigners, and execute judgments upon you. (Eze 5:8; Eze 7:21)10You shall fall by the sword. I will judge you at the border of Israel, and you shall know that I am the Lord. (2Ki 25:18; Jer 39:6; Eze 6:7)11This city shall not be your cauldron, nor shall you be the meat in the midst of it. I will judge you at the border of Israel, (Eze 11:3; Eze 11:7)12and you shall know that I am the Lord. For you have not walked in my statutes, nor obeyed my rules, but have acted according to the rules of the nations that are around you.” (Eze 8:10; Eze 8:14; Eze 8:16)13And it came to pass, while I was prophesying, that Pelatiah the son of Benaiah died. Then I fell down on my face and cried out with a loud voice and said, “Ah, Lord God! Will you make a full end of the remnant of Israel?” (Eze 9:8; Eze 11:1; Eze 20:17; Ac 5:5)
Israel’s New Heart and Spirit
14And the word of the Lord came to me:15“Son of man, your brothers, even your brothers, your kinsmen,[2] the whole house of Israel, all of them, are those of whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem have said, ‘Go far from the Lord; to us this land is given for a possession.’ (1Sa 26:19; Eze 2:1)16Therefore say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: Though I removed them far off among the nations, and though I scattered them among the countries, yet I have been a sanctuary to them for a while[3] in the countries where they have gone.’ (Isa 8:14; Eze 37:26; Eze 37:28; Re 21:22)17Therefore say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: I will gather you from the peoples and assemble you out of the countries where you have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.’ (Isa 11:12; Eze 20:41; Eze 28:25; Eze 34:13; Eze 36:24; Eze 37:21; Eze 38:8; Eze 39:27)18And when they come there, they will remove from it all its detestable things and all its abominations. (Eze 5:11; Eze 37:23)19And I will give them one heart, and a new spirit I will put within them. I will remove the heart of stone from their flesh and give them a heart of flesh, (Ps 51:10; Jer 31:33; Jer 32:39; Eze 18:31; Eze 36:26; Zec 7:12; Ac 4:32; 2Co 3:3)20that they may walk in my statutes and keep my rules and obey them. And they shall be my people, and I will be their God. (Le 26:12; Ps 105:45; Jer 30:22; Jer 31:33; Eze 14:11; Eze 36:28)21But as for those whose heart goes after their detestable things and their abominations, I will[4] bring their deeds upon their own heads, declares the Lord God.” (Eze 7:4; Eze 9:4)22Then the cherubim lifted up their wings, with the wheels beside them, and the glory of the God of Israel was over them. (Eze 10:19)23And the glory of the Lord went up from the midst of the city and stood on the mountain that is on the east side of the city. (Eze 43:2; Zec 14:4)24And the Spirit lifted me up and brought me in the vision by the Spirit of God into Chaldea, to the exiles. Then the vision that I had seen went up from me. (Eze 1:1; Eze 1:3; Eze 3:12; Eze 11:1)25And I told the exiles all the things that the Lord had shown me.
1Then the Spirit lifted me up and brought me to the gate of the house of the Lord that faces east. There at the entrance of the gate were twenty-five men, and I saw among them Jaazaniah son of Azzur and Pelatiah son of Benaiah, leaders of the people.2The Lord said to me, ‘Son of man, these are the men who are plotting evil and giving wicked advice in this city.3They say, “Haven’t our houses been recently rebuilt? This city is a pot, and we are the meat in it.”4Therefore prophesy against them; prophesy, son of man.’5Then the Spirit of the Lord came on me, and he told me to say: ‘This is what the Lord says: that is what you are saying, you leaders in Israel, but I know what is going through your mind.6You have killed many people in this city and filled its streets with the dead.7‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: the bodies you have thrown there are the meat and this city is the pot, but I will drive you out of it.8You fear the sword, and the sword is what I will bring against you, declares the Sovereign Lord.9I will drive you out of the city and deliver you into the hands of foreigners and inflict punishment on you.10You will fall by the sword, and I will execute judgment on you at the borders of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Lord.11This city will not be a pot for you, nor will you be the meat in it; I will execute judgment on you at the borders of Israel.12And you will know that I am the Lord, for you have not followed my decrees or kept my laws but have conformed to the standards of the nations around you.’13Now as I was prophesying, Pelatiah son of Benaiah died. Then I fell face down and cried out in a loud voice, ‘Alas, Sovereign Lord! Will you completely destroy the remnant of Israel?’
The promise of Israel’s return
14The word of the Lord came to me:15‘Son of man, the people of Jerusalem have said of your fellow exiles and all the other Israelites, “They are far away from the Lord; this land was given to us as our possession.”16‘Therefore say: “This is what the Sovereign Lord says: although I sent them far away among the nations and scattered them among the countries, yet for a little while I have been a sanctuary for them in the countries where they have gone.”17‘Therefore say: “This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will gather you from the nations and bring you back from the countries where you have been scattered, and I will give you back the land of Israel again.”18‘They will return to it and remove all its vile images and detestable idols.19I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.20Then they will follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God.21But as for those whose hearts are devoted to their vile images and detestable idols, I will bring down on their own heads what they have done, declares the Sovereign Lord.’22Then the cherubim, with the wheels beside them, spread their wings, and the glory of the God of Israel was above them.23The glory of the Lord went up from within the city and stopped above the mountain east of it.24The Spirit lifted me up and brought me to the exiles in Babylonia[1] in the vision given by the Spirit of God. Then the vision I had seen went up from me,25and I told the exiles everything the Lord had shown me.
1Then the Spirit of the LORD lifted me up. He brought me to the east gate of the LORD’s house. There were 25 men at the entrance of the gate. I saw Jaazaniah and Pelatiah among them. They were leaders of the people. Jaazaniah is the son of Azzur. Pelatiah is the son of Benaiah.2The LORD said to me, ‘Son of man, these men are making evil plans. They are giving bad advice to the city.3They say, “Haven’t our houses just been built again? The city is like a pot used for cooking. And we are the meat in it.”4So prophesy against them. Prophesy, son of man.’5Then the Spirit of the LORD came on me. He told me to tell them, ‘The LORD says, “You leaders in Israel, that is what you are saying. But I know what you are thinking.6You have killed many people in this city. In fact, you have filled its streets with dead bodies.”7‘So the LORD and King says, “The bodies you have thrown there are the meat. And the city is the cooking pot. But I will drive you out of it.8You are afraid of the swords of war. But I will bring them against you,” announces the LORD and King.9“I will drive you out of the city. I will hand you over to outsiders. And I will punish you.10You will be killed by swords. I will judge you at the borders of Israel. Then you will know that I am the LORD.11This city will not be a pot for you. And you will not be the meat in it. I will judge you at the borders of Israel.12Then you will know that I am the LORD. You have not obeyed my rules. You have not kept my laws. Instead, you have lived by the standards of the nations around you.” ’13Pelatiah, the son of Benaiah, died as I was prophesying. Then I fell with my face towards the ground. I cried out in a loud voice. I said, ‘LORD and King, will you destroy all the Israelites who are still left alive?’
The Lord will bring his people back home
14A message from the LORD came to me. The LORD said,15‘Son of man, the people of Jerusalem have spoken about you. They have spoken about the others the Babylonians have taken away. They have also spoken about all the other people of Israel. The people of Jerusalem have said, “Those people are far away from the LORD. This land was given to us. And it belongs to us.”16‘So tell them, “The LORD and King says, ‘I sent some of my people far away among the nations. I scattered them among the countries. But for a little while I have been their temple in the countries where they have gone.’ ”17‘Tell them, “The LORD and King says, ‘I will gather you from the nations. I will bring you back from the countries where you have been scattered. I will give you back the land of Israel.’ ”18‘They will return to it. They will remove all its statues of evil gods. I hate those gods.19I will give my people hearts that are completely committed to me. I will give them a new spirit that is faithful to me. I will remove their stubborn hearts from them. And I will give them hearts that obey me.20Then they will follow my rules. They will be careful to keep my laws. They will be my people. And I will be their God.21But some people have hearts that are committed to worshipping the statues of their evil gods. I hate those gods. Anything that happens to those people will be their own fault,’ announces the LORD and King.22Then the cherubim spread their wings. The wheels were beside them. The glory of the God of Israel was above them.23The glory of the LORD went up from the city. It stopped above the Mount of Olives east of the city.24The Spirit of God lifted me up. He took me to those who had been brought to Babylon as prisoners. These are the things that happened in the visions the Spirit gave me. Then the visions I had seen were gone.25I told my people everything the LORD had shown me.
Ezekiel 11
King James Version
1Moreover the spirit lifted me up, and brought me unto the east gate of the LORD' house, which looketh eastward: and behold at the door of the gate five and twenty men; among whom I saw Jaazaniah the son of Azur, and Pelatiah the son of Benaiah, princes of the people.2Then said he unto me, Son of man, these are the men that devise mischief, and give wicked counsel in this city:3Which say, It is not near; let us build houses: this city is the caldron, and we be the flesh.4Therefore prophesy against them, prophesy, O son of man.5And the Spirit of the LORD fell upon me, and said unto me, Speak; Thus saith the LORD; Thus have ye said, O house of Israel: for I know the things that come into your mind, every one of them.6Ye have multiplied your slain in this city, and ye have filled the streets thereof with the slain.7Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Your slain whom ye have laid in the midst of it, they are the flesh, and this city is the caldron: but I will bring you forth out of the midst of it.8Ye have feared the sword; and I will bring a sword upon you, saith the Lord GOD.9And I will bring you out of the midst thereof, and deliver you into the hands of strangers, and will execute judgments among you.10Ye shall fall by the sword; I will judge you in the border of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.11This city shall not be your caldron, neither shall ye be the flesh in the midst thereof; but I will judge you in the border of Israel:12And ye shall know that I am the LORD: for ye have not walked in my statutes, neither executed my judgments, but have done after the manners of the heathen that are round about you.13And it came to pass, when I prophesied, that Pelatiah the son of Benaiah died. Then fell I down upon my face, and cried with a loud voice, and said, Ah Lord GOD! wilt thou make a full end of the remnant of Israel?14Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,15Son of man, thy brethren, even thy brethren, the men of thy kindred, and all the house of Israel wholly, are they unto whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem have said, Get you far from the LORD: unto us is this land given in possession.16Therefore say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Although I have cast them far off among the heathen, and although I have scattered them among the countries, yet will I be to them as a little sanctuary in the countries where they shall come.17Therefore say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will even gather you from the people, and assemble you out of the countries where ye have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.18And they shall come thither, and they shall take away all the detestable things thereof and all the abominations thereof from thence.19And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh:20That they may walk in my statutes, and keep mine ordinances, and do them: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God.21But as for them whose heart walketh after the heart of their detestable things and their abominations, I will recompense their way upon their own heads, saith the Lord GOD.22Then did the cherubims lift up their wings, and the wheels beside them; and the glory of the God of Israel was over them above.23And the glory of the LORD went up from the midst of the city, and stood upon the mountain which is on the east side of the city.24Afterwards the spirit took me up, and brought me in a vision by the Spirit of God into Chaldea, to them of the captivity. So the vision that I had seen went up from me.25Then I spake unto them of the captivity all the things that the LORD had shewed me.
