1The Lord said to Moses, “Yet one plague more I will bring upon Pharaoh and upon Egypt. Afterward he will let you go from here. When he lets you go, he will drive you away completely. (Ex 4:23; Ex 12:31; Ex 12:33; Ex 12:39)2Speak now in the hearing of the people, that they ask, every man of his neighbor and every woman of her neighbor, for silver and gold jewelry.” (Ex 3:22; Ex 12:35)3And the Lord gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover, the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh’s servants and in the sight of the people. (Ex 3:21; Ex 12:36)4So Moses said, “Thus says the Lord: ‘About midnight I will go out in the midst of Egypt, (Ex 12:29; Job 34:20; Am 4:10)5and every firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne, even to the firstborn of the slave girl who is behind the handmill, and all the firstborn of the cattle. (Mt 24:41; Lu 17:35)6There shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there has never been, nor ever will be again. (Ex 12:30; Am 5:16)7But not a dog shall growl against any of the people of Israel, either man or beast, that you may know that the Lord makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.’ (Ex 8:22; Ex 9:4)8And all these your servants shall come down to me and bow down to me, saying, ‘Get out, you and all the people who follow you.’ And after that I will go out.” And he went out from Pharaoh in hot anger. 1The LORD had spoken to Moses. He had said, ‘I will bring one more plague on Pharaoh and on Egypt. After that, he will let you and your people go. When he does, he will drive every one of you away.2Tell the men and women alike to ask their neighbours for things made out of silver and gold.’3The LORD caused the Egyptians to treat the Israelites in a kind way. Pharaoh’s officials and the people had great respect for Moses.4Moses told Pharaoh, ‘The LORD says, “About midnight I will go through every part of Egypt.5Every eldest son in Egypt will die. The eldest son of Pharaoh, who sits on the throne, will die. The eldest son of every female slave, who works at her hand mill, will die. All the male animals born first to their mothers among the cattle will also die.6There will be loud crying all over Egypt. It will be worse than it’s ever been before. And nothing like it will ever be heard again.7But among the Israelites not even one dog will bark at any person or animal.” Then you will know that the LORD treats Egypt differently from us.8All your officials will come and bow down to me. They will say, “Go, you and all the people who follow you!” After that, I will leave.’ Moses was very angry when he left Pharaoh.9The LORD had spoken to Moses. He had said, ‘Pharaoh will refuse to listen to you. So I will multiply the amazing things I will do in Egypt.’10Moses and Aaron performed all these amazing things in the sight of Pharaoh. But the LORD made Pharaoh stubborn. He wouldn’t let the people of Israel go out of his country.

1Da sprach der HERR zu Mose: Noch eine Plage schicke ich dem Pharao und seinem Land. Danach wird er euch von hier wegziehen lassen. Und wenn er euch endlich ziehen lässt, wird er euch sogar fortjagen.2Lass unter dem Volk ausrufen, jeder Mann und jede Frau soll sich von dem Nachbarn Geräte aus Silber und Gold erbitten! (Ex 3:22)3Der HERR ließ das Volk bei den Ägyptern Gunst finden. Auch Mose genoss im Land Ägypten bei den Dienern des Pharao und beim Volk hohes Ansehen.4Mose sagte: So spricht der HERR: Um Mitternacht will ich mitten durch Ägypten gehen.5Dann wird jeder Erstgeborene im Land Ägypten sterben, vom Erstgeborenen des Pharao, der auf dem Thron sitzt, bis zum Erstgeborenen der Magd an der Handmühle und alle Erstgeburt vom Vieh.6Geschrei wird sich im ganzen Land Ägypten erheben, so groß, wie es keines je gegeben hat oder geben wird.7Doch gegen keinen der Israeliten wird auch nur ein Hund die Zähne fletschen, weder gegen Mensch noch Vieh; denn ihr sollt wissen, dass der HERR zwischen Ägypten und Israel einen Unterschied macht.8Dann werden alle deine Diener hier zu mir herabsteigen, sich vor mir niederwerfen und sagen: Zieht doch fort, du und das ganze Volk, das du anführst. Er verließ den Pharao, rot vor Zorn.9Der HERR sprach zu Mose: Der Pharao wird nicht auf euch hören; denn ich will viele Wunder im Land Ägypten vollbringen.10Mose und Aaron vollbrachten alle diese Wunder vor dem Pharao, aber der HERR verhärtete das Herz des Pharao, sodass er die Israeliten nicht aus seinem Land fortziehen ließ.
