Revelation 16

English Standard Version

1 Then I heard a loud voice from the temple telling the seven angels, “Go and pour out on the earth the seven bowls of the wrath of God.” (Ps 79:6; Jer 10:25; Zep 3:8; Re 15:1; Re 15:7)2 So the first angel went and poured out his bowl on the earth, and harmful and painful sores came upon the people who bore the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. (Ex 9:9; Re 13:16; Re 16:11)3 The second angel poured out his bowl into the sea, and it became like the blood of a corpse, and every living thing died that was in the sea. (Re 8:8; Re 8:9)4 The third angel poured out his bowl into the rivers and the springs of water, and they became blood. (Ex 7:17; Re 8:10)5 And I heard the angel in charge of the waters[1] say, “Just are you, O Holy One, who is and who was, for you brought these judgments. (Jer 12:1; Joh 17:25; Re 1:4; Re 1:8; Re 4:8; Re 11:17; Re 15:4)6 For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and you have given them blood to drink. It is what they deserve!” (Isa 49:26; Lu 11:49; Re 11:18; Re 13:15; Re 18:24)7 And I heard the altar saying, “Yes, Lord God the Almighty, true and just are your judgments!” (Ps 119:137; Re 6:9; Re 15:3; Re 19:2)8 The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and it was allowed to scorch people with fire. (Re 9:17; Re 14:18)9 They were scorched by the fierce heat, and they cursed[2] the name of God who had power over these plagues. They did not repent and give him glory. (Da 5:22; Da 5:23; Re 2:21; Re 11:13; Re 16:11; Re 16:21)10 The fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and its kingdom was plunged into darkness. People gnawed their tongues in anguish (Ex 10:21; Re 9:2; Re 13:2)11 and cursed the God of heaven for their pain and sores. They did not repent of their deeds. (Re 2:21; Re 11:13; Re 16:2)12 The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, to prepare the way for the kings from the east. (Isa 11:15; Isa 41:2; Isa 41:25; Isa 44:27; Isa 46:11; Jer 50:38; Jer 51:32; Jer 51:36; Re 7:2; Re 9:14)13 And I saw, coming out of the mouth of the dragon and out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits like frogs. (Ex 8:6; Re 12:3; Re 12:9; Re 13:1; Re 13:11; Re 13:14; Re 18:2; Re 19:20; Re 20:10)14 For they are demonic spirits, performing signs, who go abroad to the kings of the whole world, to assemble them for battle on the great day of God the Almighty. (1Ki 22:20; 1Ti 4:1; Re 6:17; Re 13:13; Re 17:14; Re 19:19; Re 20:8)15 (“Behold, I am coming like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake, keeping his garments on, that he may not go about naked and be seen exposed!”) (Mt 24:42; Re 3:2; Re 3:3; Re 3:18)16 And they assembled them at the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon. (Jud 5:19; Zec 12:11; Re 19:19)17 The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple, from the throne, saying, “It is done!” (Eph 2:2; Re 10:6)18 And there were flashes of lightning, rumblings,[3] peals of thunder, and a great earthquake such as there had never been since man was on the earth, so great was that earthquake. (Da 12:1; Joe 2:2; Mt 24:21; Re 4:5; Re 6:12; Re 8:5; Re 11:13; Re 11:19)19 The great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell, and God remembered Babylon the great, to make her drain the cup of the wine of the fury of his wrath. (Ps 74:18; Re 11:8; Re 11:13; Re 14:8; Re 14:10; Re 18:5)20 And every island fled away, and no mountains were to be found. (Re 6:14)21 And great hailstones, about one hundred pounds[4] each, fell from heaven on people; and they cursed God for the plague of the hail, because the plague was so severe. (Ex 9:23; Re 11:19; Re 16:9; Re 16:11)

Revelation 16

New International Version

1 Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels, ‘Go, pour out the seven bowls of God’s wrath on the earth.’2 The first angel went and poured out his bowl on the land, and ugly, festering sores broke out on the people who had the mark of the beast and worshipped its image.3 The second angel poured out his bowl on the sea, and it turned into blood like that of a dead person, and every living thing in the sea died.4 The third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and springs of water, and they became blood.5 Then I heard the angel in charge of the waters say: ‘You are just in these judgments, O Holy One, you who are and who were;6 for they have shed the blood of your holy people and your prophets, and you have given them blood to drink as they deserve.’7 And I heard the altar respond: ‘Yes, Lord God Almighty, true and just are your judgments.’8 The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and the sun was allowed to scorch people with fire.9 They were seared by the intense heat and they cursed the name of God, who had control over these plagues, but they refused to repent and glorify him.10 The fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and its kingdom was plunged into darkness. People gnawed their tongues in agony11 and cursed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, but they refused to repent of what they had done.12 The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up to prepare the way for the kings from the East.13 Then I saw three impure spirits that looked like frogs; they came out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet.14 They are demonic spirits that perform signs, and they go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them for the battle on the great day of God Almighty.15 ‘Look, I come like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake and remains clothed, so as not to go naked and be shamefully exposed.’16 Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon.17 The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and out of the temple came a loud voice from the throne, saying, ‘It is done!’18 Then there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder and a severe earthquake. No earthquake like it has ever occurred since mankind has been on earth, so tremendous was the quake.19 The great city split into three parts, and the cities of the nations collapsed. God remembered Babylon the Great and gave her the cup filled with the wine of the fury of his wrath.20 Every island fled away and the mountains could not be found.21 From the sky huge hailstones, each weighing about forty kilograms, fell on people. And they cursed God on account of the plague of hail, because the plague was so terrible.

Revelation 16

King James Version

1 And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.2 And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image.3 And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.4 And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood.5 And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus.6 For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.7 And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.8 And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.9 And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.10 And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain,11 And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.12 And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.14 For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.16 And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.17 And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.18 And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great.19 And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.20 And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.21 And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.

Revelation 16

New International Reader’s Version

1 Then I heard a loud voice from the temple speaking to the seven angels. ‘Go’, it said. ‘Pour out the seven bowls of God’s great anger on the earth.’2 The first angel went and poured out his bowl on the land. Ugly and painful sores broke out on people. Those people had the mark of the beast and worshipped its statue.3 The second angel poured out his bowl on the sea. It turned into blood like the blood of a dead person. Every living thing in the sea died.4 The third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and springs of water. They became blood.5 Then I heard the angel who was in charge of the waters. He said, ‘Holy One, the way you judge is fair. You are the God who is and who was.6 Those who worship the beast have poured out blood. They have poured out the life’s blood of your holy people and your prophets. So you have given blood to drink to those who worship the beast. That’s exactly what they should get.’7 Then I heard the altar reply. It said, ‘Lord God who rules over all, the way you judge is true and fair.’8 The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun. The sun was allowed to burn people with fire.9 They were burned by the blazing heat. So they spoke evil things against the name of God, who controlled these plagues. But they refused to turn away from their sins. They did not give glory to God.10 The fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast. The kingdom of the beast became very dark. People chewed on their tongues because they were suffering so much.11 They spoke evil things against the God of heaven. They did this because of their pains and their sores. But they refused to turn away from the sins they had committed.12 The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates. Its water dried up to prepare the way for the kings from the East.13 Then I saw three evil spirits that looked like frogs. They came out of the mouths of the dragon, the beast and the false prophet.14 They are spirits of demons that perform signs. They go out to gather the kings of the whole world for battle. This battle will take place on the great day of the God who rules over all.15 ‘Look! I am coming like a thief! Blessed is anyone who stays awake and keeps their clothes on. Then they will be ready. They will not be caught naked and so be put to shame.’16 Then the evil spirits gathered the kings together. In the Hebrew language, the place where the kings met is called Armageddon.17 The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air. Out of the temple came a loud voice from the throne. It said, ‘It is done!’18 Then there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, thunder and a powerful earthquake. There has never been an earthquake as terrible as this. One like this hasn’t happened while human beings have lived on earth.19 The great city split into three parts. The cities of the nations crumbled and fell. God remembered Babylon the Great. He gave Babylon the cup filled with the wine of his terrible anger.20 Every island ran away. The mountains could not be found.21 Huge hailstones weighing about 40 kilograms each fell from the sky. The hail crushed people. And they spoke evil things against God because of the plague. That’s because the plague of hail was so terrible.
