1And again Jesus spoke to them in parables, saying, (Mt 13:34)2“The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son, (Lu 14:16; Re 19:7)3and sent his servants[1] to call those who were invited to the wedding feast, but they would not come. (Es 6:14; Pr 9:3; Pr 9:5)4Again he sent other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves have been slaughtered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding feast.”’ (Pr 9:2; Mt 21:36; Lu 11:38; Joh 21:12; Joh 21:15)5But they paid no attention and went off, one to his farm, another to his business, (Heb 2:3)6while the rest seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them. (Mt 21:35; Lu 18:32; Ac 14:5; 1Th 2:2)7The king was angry, and he sent his troops and destroyed those murderers and burned their city. (Mt 21:41; Lu 19:27)8Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding feast is ready, but those invited were not worthy. (Mt 10:11; Lu 20:35; Ac 13:46; Re 3:4)9Go therefore to the main roads and invite to the wedding feast as many as you find.’10And those servants went out into the roads and gathered all whom they found, both bad and good. So the wedding hall was filled with guests. (Mt 13:47)11“But when the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man who had no wedding garment. (Re 19:8; Re 22:14)12And he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. (Mt 20:13; Mt 26:50)13Then the king said to the attendants, ‘Bind him hand and foot and cast him into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ (Mt 8:12)14For many are called, but few are chosen.” (Re 17:14)
Paying Taxes to Caesar
15Then the Pharisees went and plotted how to entangle him in his words. (Mr 12:13; Lu 11:54; Lu 20:20)16And they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are true and teach the way of God truthfully, and you do not care about anyone’s opinion, for you are not swayed by appearances.[2] (Mr 2:18; Mr 3:6; Mr 8:15; Joh 3:2; Ac 10:34; Ac 13:10; Ac 18:26)17Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” (Mt 17:25; Lu 2:1; Lu 3:1)18But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, “Why put me to the test, you hypocrites? (Joh 8:6)19Show me the coin for the tax.” And they brought him a denarius.[3]20And Jesus said to them, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?”21They said, “Caesar’s.” Then he said to them, “Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” (Ro 13:7)22When they heard it, they marveled. And they left him and went away. (Mr 12:12)
Sadducees Ask About the Resurrection
23The same day Sadducees came to him, who say that there is no resurrection, and they asked him a question, (Mt 3:7; Mt 16:1; Mt 22:34; Ac 4:1; Ac 4:2; Ac 5:17; Ac 23:6; Ac 23:8)24saying, “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies having no children, his brother must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother.’ (De 25:5)25Now there were seven brothers among us. The first married and died, and having no offspring left his wife to his brother.26So too the second and third, down to the seventh.27After them all, the woman died.28In the resurrection, therefore, of the seven, whose wife will she be? For they all had her.”29But Jesus answered them, “You are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God. (Joh 20:9; 1Co 6:14)30For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. (Mt 24:38; Lu 17:27)31And as for the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was said to you by God: (Mt 21:16)32‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not God of the dead, but of the living.” (Ex 3:6; Ac 7:32)33And when the crowd heard it, they were astonished at his teaching. (Mt 7:28)
The Great Commandment
34But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. (Mt 22:23; Mr 12:28)35And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. (Mt 22:18; Lu 7:30; Lu 10:25)36“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?”37And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. (De 6:5; Lu 10:27)38This is the great and first commandment.39And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. (Le 19:18; Mt 19:19; 1Jo 4:21)40On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” (Mt 7:12; Ro 13:8; Ro 13:10; Ga 5:14)
Whose Son Is the Christ?
41Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question, (Mt 22:34; Mr 12:35; Lu 20:41)42saying, “What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?” They said to him, “The son of David.” (Mt 1:1; Mt 1:17)43He said to them, “How is it then that David, in the Spirit, calls him Lord, saying, (2Sa 23:2; Re 1:10; Re 4:2)44“‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand, until I put your enemies under your feet”’? (Ps 110:1; Ac 2:34; 1Co 15:25; Heb 1:13; Heb 10:13)45If then David calls him Lord, how is he his son?” (Ro 1:3)46And no one was able to answer him a word, nor from that day did anyone dare to ask him any more questions. (Mr 12:34; Lu 14:6; Lu 20:40)

(Joh 3:29; Re 19:7)3Und er sandte seine Knechte aus, die Gäste zur Hochzeit zu rufen; doch sie wollten nicht kommen.4Abermals sandte er andere Knechte aus und sprach: Sagt den Gästen: Siehe, meine Mahlzeit habe ich bereitet, meine Ochsen und mein Mastvieh ist geschlachtet und alles ist bereit; kommt zur Hochzeit!5Aber sie verachteten das und gingen weg, einer auf seinen Acker, der andere an sein Geschäft.6Die Übrigen aber ergriffen seine Knechte, verhöhnten und töteten sie. (Mt 21:35)7Da wurde der König zornig und schickte seine Heere aus und brachte diese Mörder um und zündete ihre Stadt an. (Mt 24:2)8Dann sprach er zu seinen Knechten: Die Hochzeit ist zwar bereit, aber die Gäste waren’s nicht wert.9Darum geht hinaus auf die Straßen und ladet zur Hochzeit ein, wen ihr findet.10Und die Knechte gingen auf die Straßen hinaus und brachten zusammen alle, die sie fanden, Böse und Gute; und der Hochzeitssaal war voll mit Gästen. (Mt 13:47)11Da ging der König hinein zum Mahl, sich die Gäste anzusehen, und sah da einen Menschen, der hatte kein hochzeitliches Gewand an, (Re 19:8)12und sprach zu ihm: Freund, wie bist du hier hereingekommen und hast doch kein hochzeitliches Gewand an? Er aber verstummte.13Da sprach der König zu seinen Dienern: Bindet ihm Hände und Füße und werft ihn in die äußerste Finsternis! Da wird sein Heulen und Zähneklappern.14Denn viele sind berufen, aber wenige sind auserwählt.
Die Frage nach der Steuer (Der Zinsgroschen)
15Da gingen die Pharisäer hin und hielten Rat, dass sie ihn fingen in seinen Worten, (Mr 12:13; Lu 20:20)16und sandten zu ihm ihre Jünger samt den Anhängern des Herodes[1]. Die sprachen: Meister, wir wissen, dass du wahrhaftig bist und lehrst den Weg Gottes recht und fragst nach niemand; denn du achtest nicht das Ansehen der Menschen. (Joh 3:2)17Darum sage uns, was meinst du: Ist’s recht, dass man dem Kaiser Steuern zahlt, oder nicht?18Da nun Jesus ihre Bosheit merkte, sprach er: Ihr Heuchler, was versucht ihr mich?19Zeigt mir die Steuermünze! Und sie reichten ihm einen Silbergroschen.20Und er sprach zu ihnen: Wessen Bild und Aufschrift ist das?21Sie sprachen zu ihm: Des Kaisers. Da sprach er zu ihnen: So gebt dem Kaiser, was des Kaisers ist, und Gott, was Gottes ist! (Ro 13:7)22Als sie das hörten, wunderten sie sich, ließen von ihm ab und gingen davon.
Die Frage nach der Auferstehung
23An demselben Tage traten Sadduzäer zu ihm, die sagen, es gebe keine Auferstehung, und fragten ihn (Mr 12:18; Lu 20:27; Ac 4:2; Ac 23:6; Ac 23:8)24und sprachen: Meister, Mose hat gesagt: »Wenn einer stirbt und hat keine Kinder, so soll sein Bruder die Frau heiraten und seinem Bruder Nachkommen erwecken.« (Ge 38:8; De 25:5)25Nun waren bei uns sieben Brüder. Der erste heiratete und starb; und weil er keine Nachkommen hatte, hinterließ er seine Frau seinem Bruder;26desgleichen der zweite und der dritte bis zum siebenten.27Zuletzt nach allen starb die Frau.28Nun in der Auferstehung: Wessen Frau wird sie sein von diesen sieben? Sie haben sie ja alle gehabt.29Jesus aber antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Ihr irrt, weil ihr weder die Schrift kennt noch die Kraft Gottes.30Denn in der Auferstehung werden sie weder heiraten noch sich heiraten lassen, sondern sie sind wie Engel im Himmel.31Habt ihr denn nicht gelesen von der Auferstehung der Toten, was euch gesagt ist von Gott, der da spricht: (Ex 3:6)32»Ich bin der Gott Abrahams und der Gott Isaaks und der Gott Jakobs«? Gott ist nicht ein Gott der Toten, sondern der Lebenden.33Und als das Volk das hörte, entsetzten sie sich über seine Lehre.
Die Frage nach dem höchsten Gebot
34Als aber die Pharisäer hörten, dass er den Sadduzäern das Maul gestopft hatte, versammelten sie sich. (Mr 12:28; Lu 10:25)35Und einer von ihnen, ein Lehrer des Gesetzes, versuchte ihn und fragte:36Meister, welches ist das höchste Gebot im Gesetz?37Jesus aber sprach zu ihm: »Du sollst den Herrn, deinen Gott, lieben von ganzem Herzen, von ganzer Seele und von ganzem Gemüt[2]« (De 6:5)38Dies ist das höchste und erste Gebot.39Das andere aber ist dem gleich: »Du sollst deinen Nächsten lieben wie dich selbst« (Le 19:18)40In diesen beiden Geboten hängt das ganze Gesetz und die Propheten. (Mt 7:12; Ro 13:9)
Der Sohn Davids
41Als nun die Pharisäer beieinander waren, fragte sie Jesus (Mr 12:34; Lu 20:40)42und sprach: Was denkt ihr von dem Christus? Wessen Sohn ist er? Sie sprachen zu ihm: Davids. (Isa 11:1; Joh 7:42)43Er sprach zu ihnen: Wie nennt ihn dann David im Geist »Herr«, wenn er sagt:44»Der Herr sprach zu meinem Herrn: Setze dich zu meiner Rechten, bis ich deine Feinde unter deine Füße lege«? (Mt 26:64)45Wenn nun David ihn Herr nennt, wie ist er dann sein Sohn?46Und niemand konnte ihm ein Wort antworten, auch wagte niemand von dem Tage an, ihn hinfort zu fragen.
