1 It was now two days before the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread. And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to arrest him by stealth and kill him, (Mt 21:46; Mt 26:2; Lu 22:1; Joh 6:4; Joh 11:53) 2 for they said, “Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar from the people.” (Mt 27:24) 



3 And while he was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper,[1] as he was reclining at table, a woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly, and she broke the flask and poured it over his head. (Mt 21:17; Mt 26:6; Lu 7:37; Joh 11:18; Joh 12:1) 4 There were some who said to themselves indignantly, “Why was the ointment wasted like that? 5 For this ointment could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii[2] and given to the poor.” And they scolded her. (Joh 11:33; Joh 11:38; Joh 13:29) 6 But Jesus said, “Leave her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 7 For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you want, you can do good for them. But you will not always have me. (De 15:11; Mr 2:20; Joh 7:33; 2Co 9:7) 8 She has done what she could; she has anointed my body beforehand for burial. (Mr 12:43; Lu 21:3; Joh 19:40; 2Co 8:12) 9 And truly, I say to you, wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her.” (Mt 24:14; Ac 10:4) 



10 Then Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve, went to the chief priests in order to betray him to them. (Mt 26:14; Mt 27:3; Mr 3:19; Lu 22:3; Joh 6:71; Joh 12:4; Joh 13:2; Joh 13:27; Joh 13:30; Ac 1:16) 11 And when they heard it, they were glad and promised to give him money. And he sought an opportunity to betray him. (Mt 20:18) 



12 And on the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrificed the Passover lamb, his disciples said to him, “Where will you have us go and prepare for you to eat the Passover?” (Ex 12:18; Mt 26:17; Lu 22:7; 1Co 5:7) 13 And he sent two of his disciples and said to them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him, (Mr 11:1) 14 and wherever he enters, say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says, Where is my guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ (Lu 2:7; Joh 11:28) 15 And he will show you a large upper room furnished and ready; there prepare for us.” (Ac 1:13) 16 And the disciples set out and went to the city and found it just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover. 17 And when it was evening, he came with the twelve. (Mt 26:20; Lu 22:14; Lu 22:21; Joh 13:21) 18 And as they were reclining at table and eating, Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me, one who is eating with me.” (Ps 41:9; Joh 6:70; Joh 13:18) 19 They began to be sorrowful and to say to him one after another, “Is it I?” 20 He said to them, “It is one of the twelve, one who is dipping bread into the dish with me. (Mr 14:10; Mr 14:18) 21 For the Son of Man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! 22 And as they were eating, he took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to them, and said, “Take; this is my body.” (Mt 14:19; Mt 26:26; Lu 22:18; Joh 6:53; 1Co 10:16; 1Co 11:23) 23 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it. (Mt 15:36) 24 And he said to them, “This is my blood of the[3] covenant, which is poured out for many. (Ex 24:8; Zec 9:11; Mt 20:28; Mr 14:22; Heb 13:20) 25 Truly, I say to you, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.” 



26 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. (Mt 21:1; Mt 26:30; Lu 22:39; Joh 18:1) 27 And Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away, for it is written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’ (Zec 13:7; Joh 16:32) 28 But after I am raised up, I will go before you to Galilee.” (Mt 28:7; Mt 28:10; Mt 28:16; Mr 16:7) 29 Peter said to him, “Even though they all fall away, I will not.” (Lu 22:31; Lu 22:33) 30 And Jesus said to him, “Truly, I tell you, this very night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” (Mr 14:68; Mr 14:72; Lu 22:34; Joh 13:38) 31 But he said emphatically, “If I must die with you, I will not deny you.” And they all said the same. (Joh 13:37) 



32 And they went to a place called Gethsemane. And he said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” (Mt 26:36; Mr 14:26; Lu 22:40) 33 And he took with him Peter and James and John, and began to be greatly distressed and troubled. (Mt 17:23; Mr 5:37; Mr 9:2) 34 And he said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death. Remain here and watch.”[4] (Ps 42:5; Mt 24:42; Joh 12:27) 35 And going a little farther, he fell on the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. (Mr 14:41; Lu 22:53; Joh 12:23; Joh 12:27; Joh 13:1; Joh 16:4; Joh 17:1; Heb 5:7) 36 And he said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.” (Mt 19:26; Mr 10:38; Joh 5:30; Joh 6:38; Ro 8:15; Ga 4:6; Php 2:8) 37 And he came and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, “Simon, are you asleep? Could you not watch one hour? 38 Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Mt 6:13; Mr 14:34; 1Pe 4:7) 39 And again he went away and prayed, saying the same words. (Mr 14:36) 40 And again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were very heavy, and they did not know what to answer him. (Mr 9:6; Lu 9:32; Lu 9:33) 41 And he came the third time and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? It is enough; the hour has come. The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. (Mr 9:31; Mr 10:33; Mr 14:35; Lu 22:38) 42 Rise, let us be going; see, my betrayer is at hand.” 



43 And immediately, while he was still speaking, Judas came, one of the twelve, and with him a crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders. (Mt 26:47; Mr 14:10; Lu 22:47; Joh 18:3; Ac 1:16) 44 Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, “The one I will kiss is the man. Seize him and lead him away under guard.” 45 And when he came, he went up to him at once and said, “Rabbi!” And he kissed him. (Lu 7:38; Lu 7:45; Lu 15:20; Joh 1:38; Ac 20:37) 46 And they laid hands on him and seized him. 47 But one of those who stood by drew his sword and struck the servant[5] of the high priest and cut off his ear. (Lu 22:38) 48 And Jesus said to them, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? 49 Day after day I was with you in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me. But let the Scriptures be fulfilled.” (Mt 1:22; Mt 4:23; Mt 21:23; Mr 14:21; Lu 2:46; Joh 8:2; Joh 18:20) 50 And they all left him and fled. (Ps 88:8; Ps 88:18; Mr 14:27; Joh 16:32) 



51 And a young man followed him, with nothing but a linen cloth about his body. And they seized him, (Jud 14:12; Pr 31:24; Mr 15:46) 52 but he left the linen cloth and ran away naked. 



53 And they led Jesus to the high priest. And all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes came together. (Mt 26:57; Lu 22:54; Joh 18:12; Joh 18:19) 54 And Peter had followed him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest. And he was sitting with the guards and warming himself at the fire. (Mt 26:3; Mr 14:53; Mr 14:67; Mr 14:68; Joh 7:32; Joh 18:3; Joh 18:15; Joh 18:18) 55 Now the chief priests and the whole council[6] were seeking testimony against Jesus to put him to death, but they found none. 56 For many bore false witness against him, but their testimony did not agree. (De 17:6; De 19:15; Ps 27:12; Ps 35:11) 57 And some stood up and bore false witness against him, saying, 58 “We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and in three days I will build another, not made with hands.’” (Mr 15:29; Joh 2:19; Ac 6:14; Ac 7:48; Ac 17:24; 2Co 5:1; Heb 9:11; Heb 9:24) 59 Yet even about this their testimony did not agree. 60 And the high priest stood up in the midst and asked Jesus, “Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?”[7] 61 But he remained silent and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?” (Isa 53:7; Mt 1:17; Mr 8:29; Mr 15:4; Lu 22:67; Joh 19:9; Ro 1:25) 62 And Jesus said, “I am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.” (Ps 110:1; Mt 16:27; Mt 24:30; Mr 16:19; Heb 1:3) 63 And the high priest tore his garments and said, “What further witnesses do we need? (Nu 14:6; Ac 14:14) 64 You have heard his blasphemy. What is your decision?” And they all condemned him as deserving death. (Le 24:16; Mt 9:3; Lu 23:50; Joh 10:36) 65 And some began to spit on him and to cover his face and to strike him, saying to him, “Prophesy!” And the guards received him with blows. (Es 7:8; Isa 50:6; Mt 5:39; Mr 10:34; Mr 15:19; Lu 22:63; Ac 23:2) 



66 And as Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant girls of the high priest came, (Mt 26:69; Lu 22:55; Joh 18:16; Joh 18:25) 67 and seeing Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said, “You also were with the Nazarene, Jesus.” (Mr 14:54) 68 But he denied it, saying, “I neither know nor understand what you mean.” And he went out into the gateway[8] and the rooster crowed.[9] (Mr 14:30; Mr 14:72) 69 And the servant girl saw him and began again to say to the bystanders, “This man is one of them.” 70 But again he denied it. And after a little while the bystanders again said to Peter, “Certainly you are one of them, for you are a Galilean.” 71 But he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, “I do not know this man of whom you speak.” 72 And immediately the rooster crowed a second time. And Peter remembered how Jesus had said to him, “Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” And he broke down and wept.[10] (Mr 14:30; Mr 14:68; Ac 3:13)

1 Es waren noch zwei Tage bis zum Passafest und den Tagen der Ungesäuerten Brote. Und die Hohenpriester und Schriftgelehrten suchten, wie sie ihn mit List ergreifen und töten könnten. (De 16:1; Mt 26:1; Mr 11:18; Lu 22:1; Joh 11:47; Joh 13:1; Joh 18:1) 2 Denn sie sprachen: Ja nicht bei dem Fest, damit es nicht einen Aufruhr im Volk gebe. 



3 Und als er in Betanien war im Hause Simons des Aussätzigen und saß zu Tisch, da kam eine Frau, die hatte ein Alabastergefäß mit unverfälschtem, kostbarem Nardenöl, und sie zerbrach das Gefäß und goss das Öl auf sein Haupt. (Lu 7:36; Joh 12:1) 4 Da wurden einige unwillig und sprachen untereinander: Was soll diese Vergeudung des Salböls? 5 Man hätte dieses Öl für mehr als dreihundert Silbergroschen verkaufen können und das Geld den Armen geben. Und sie fuhren sie an. (Mr 10:21) 6 Jesus aber sprach: Lasst sie! Was bekümmert ihr sie? Sie hat ein gutes Werk an mir getan. 7 Denn ihr habt allezeit Arme bei euch, und wenn ihr wollt, könnt ihr ihnen Gutes tun; mich aber habt ihr nicht allezeit. (De 15:11) 8 Sie hat getan, was sie konnte; sie hat meinen Leib im Voraus gesalbt zu meinem Begräbnis. (Mr 16:1) 9 Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wo das Evangelium gepredigt wird in der ganzen Welt, da wird man auch das sagen zu ihrem Gedächtnis, was sie getan hat. (Mr 13:10) 



10 Und Judas Iskariot, einer von den Zwölfen, ging hin zu den Hohenpriestern, dass er ihn an sie verriete. 11 Da sie das hörten, wurden sie froh und versprachen, ihm Geld zu geben. Und er suchte, wie er ihn bei guter Gelegenheit verraten könnte. 



12 Und am ersten Tage der Ungesäuerten Brote, da man das Passalamm opferte, sprachen seine Jünger zu ihm: Wo willst du, dass wir hingehen und das Passalamm bereiten, damit du es essen kannst? 13 Und er sandte zwei seiner Jünger und sprach zu ihnen: Geht hin in die Stadt, und es wird euch ein Mensch begegnen, der trägt einen Krug mit Wasser; folgt ihm, (Mr 11:1) 14 und wo er hineingeht, da sprecht zu dem Hausherrn: Der Meister lässt dir sagen: Wo ist die Herberge für mich, in der ich das Passalamm essen kann mit meinen Jüngern? 15 Und er wird euch einen großen Saal zeigen, der schön ausgelegt und vorbereitet ist; und dort richtet für uns zu. 16 Und die Jünger gingen hin und kamen in die Stadt und fanden’s, wie er ihnen gesagt hatte, und bereiteten das Passalamm. 17 Und am Abend kam er mit den Zwölfen. 18 Und als sie bei Tisch waren und aßen, sprach Jesus: Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Einer unter euch, der mit mir isst, wird mich verraten. 19 Da wurden sie traurig und sagten zu ihm, einer nach dem andern: Bin ich’s? 20 Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Einer von den Zwölfen, der mit mir seinen Bissen in die Schüssel taucht. 21 Der Menschensohn geht zwar hin, wie von ihm geschrieben steht; weh aber dem Menschen, durch den der Menschensohn verraten wird! Es wäre für diesen Menschen besser, wenn er nie geboren wäre. (Mr 9:12) 22 Und als sie aßen, nahm er das Brot, dankte und brach’s und gab’s ihnen und sprach: Nehmet; das ist mein Leib. (Mr 6:41; 1Co 10:16; 1Co 11:23) 23 Und er nahm den Kelch, dankte und gab ihnen den; und sie tranken alle daraus. 24 Und er sprach zu ihnen: Das ist mein Blut des Bundes[1], das für viele vergossen wird. (Ex 24:8; Mr 10:45; Heb 9:15) 25 Wahrlich, ich sage euch, dass ich nicht mehr trinken werde vom Gewächs des Weinstocks bis an den Tag, an dem ich aufs Neue davon trinke im Reich Gottes. 26 Und als sie den Lobgesang gesungen hatten, gingen sie hinaus an den Ölberg. 



27 Und Jesus sprach zu ihnen: Ihr werdet alle Ärgernis nehmen; denn es steht geschrieben: »Ich werde den Hirten schlagen, und die Schafe werden sich zerstreuen.« (Joh 16:32) 28 Wenn ich aber auferstanden bin, will ich vor euch hingehen nach Galiläa. (Mr 16:7) 29 Petrus aber sagte zu ihm: Wenn auch alle Ärgernis nehmen, so doch ich nicht! 30 Und Jesus sprach zu ihm: Wahrlich, ich sage dir: Heute, in dieser Nacht, ehe denn der Hahn zweimal kräht, wirst du mich dreimal verleugnen. 31 Er aber redete noch weiter: Auch wenn ich mit dir sterben müsste, werde ich dich nicht verleugnen! Das Gleiche sagten sie alle. (Joh 11:16) 



32 Und sie kamen zu einem Garten mit Namen Gethsemane. Und er sprach zu seinen Jüngern: Setzt euch hierher, bis ich gebetet habe. 33 Und er nahm mit sich Petrus und Jakobus und Johannes und fing an zu zittern und zu zagen (Mt 17:1) 34 und sprach zu ihnen: Meine Seele ist betrübt bis an den Tod; bleibt hier und wachet! (Ps 42:6; Joh 12:27) 35 Und er ging ein wenig weiter, fiel nieder auf die Erde und betete, dass, wenn es möglich wäre, die Stunde an ihm vorüberginge, 36 und sprach: Abba, Vater, alles ist dir möglich; nimm diesen Kelch von mir; doch nicht, was ich will, sondern was du willst! (Mr 10:38; Joh 6:38; Ga 4:6) 37 Und er kam und fand sie schlafend und sprach zu Petrus: Simon, schläfst du? Vermochtest du nicht eine Stunde zu wachen? 38 Wachet und betet, dass ihr nicht in Versuchung fallt! Der Geist ist willig; aber das Fleisch ist schwach. (Lu 21:36) 39 Und er ging wieder hin und betete und sprach dieselben Worte 40 und kam wieder und fand sie schlafend; denn ihre Augen waren voller Schlaf, und sie wussten nicht, was sie ihm antworten sollten. 41 Und er kam zum dritten Mal und sprach zu ihnen: Ach, wollt ihr weiter schlafen und ruhen? Es ist genug; die Stunde ist gekommen. Siehe, der Menschensohn wird überantwortet in die Hände der Sünder. (Mr 9:31; Mr 10:33) 42 Steht auf, lasst uns gehen! Siehe, der mich verrät, ist nahe. (Joh 14:31) 



43 Und alsbald, während er noch redete, kam herzu Judas, einer von den Zwölfen, und mit ihm eine Schar mit Schwertern und mit Stangen, von den Hohenpriestern und Schriftgelehrten und Ältesten. 44 Und der Verräter hatte ihnen ein Zeichen genannt und gesagt: Welchen ich küssen werde, der ist’s; den ergreift und führt ihn sicher ab. 45 Und als er kam, trat er alsbald zu ihm und sprach: Rabbi!, und küsste ihn. 46 Die aber legten Hand an ihn und ergriffen ihn. 47 Einer aber von denen, die dabeistanden, zog sein Schwert und schlug nach dem Knecht des Hohenpriesters und hieb ihm ein Ohr ab. 48 Und Jesus antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Seid ihr ausgezogen wie gegen einen Räuber mit Schwertern und mit Stangen, mich gefangen zu nehmen? (Mr 15:27) 49 Ich bin täglich bei euch im Tempel gewesen und habe gelehrt, und ihr habt mich nicht ergriffen. Aber so muss die Schrift erfüllt werden. (Mr 9:12) 50 Da verließen ihn alle und flohen. 51 Und ein junger Mann folgte ihm nach, der war mit einem Leinengewand bekleidet auf der bloßen Haut; und sie griffen nach ihm. 52 Er aber ließ das Gewand fahren und floh nackt. (Am 2:16) 



53 Und sie führten Jesus zu dem Hohenpriester; und es versammelten sich alle Hohenpriester und Ältesten und Schriftgelehrten. 54 Petrus aber folgte ihm nach von ferne, bis hinein in den Palast des Hohenpriesters, und saß da bei den Knechten und wärmte sich am Feuer. 55 Aber die Hohenpriester und der ganze Hohe Rat suchten Zeugnis gegen Jesus, auf dass sie ihn zu Tode brächten, und fanden nichts. 56 Denn viele gaben falsches Zeugnis gegen ihn; aber ihr Zeugnis stimmte nicht überein. (Ps 27:12) 57 Und einige standen auf und gaben falsches Zeugnis gegen ihn und sprachen: 58 Wir haben gehört, dass er gesagt hat: Ich will diesen Tempel, der mit Händen gemacht ist, abbrechen und in drei Tagen einen andern bauen, der nicht mit Händen gemacht ist. (Mr 8:31; Mr 12:10; Mr 13:2) 59 Aber ihr Zeugnis stimmte auch darin nicht überein. 60 Und der Hohepriester stand auf, trat in die Mitte und fragte Jesus und sprach: Antwortest du nichts auf das, was diese gegen dich bezeugen? 61 Er aber schwieg still und antwortete nichts. Da fragte ihn der Hohepriester abermals und sprach zu ihm: Bist du der Christus, der Sohn des Hochgelobten? (Isa 53:7; Mr 8:29; Mr 15:5) 62 Jesus aber sprach: Ich bin’s; und ihr werdet sehen den Menschensohn sitzen zur Rechten der Kraft und kommen mit den Wolken des Himmels. (Ps 110:1; Da 7:13; Mr 12:36; Mr 13:26) 63 Da zerriss der Hohepriester seine Kleider und sprach: Was bedürfen wir weiterer Zeugen? 64 Ihr habt die Gotteslästerung gehört. Was meint ihr? Sie aber verurteilten ihn alle, dass er des Todes schuldig sei. 65 Da fingen einige an, ihn anzuspeien und sein Angesicht zu verdecken und ihn mit Fäusten zu schlagen und zu ihm zu sagen: Weissage uns! Und die Knechte schlugen ihn ins Angesicht. (Mr 15:19) 



66 Und Petrus war unten im Hof. Da kam eine von den Mägden des Hohenpriesters; 67 und als sie Petrus sah, wie er sich wärmte, schaute sie ihn an und sprach: Und du warst auch mit dem Jesus von Nazareth. 68 Er leugnete aber und sprach: Ich weiß nicht und verstehe nicht, was du sagst. Und er ging hinaus in den Vorhof, und der Hahn krähte. 69 Und die Magd sah ihn und fing abermals an, denen zu sagen, die dabeistanden: Dieser ist einer von denen. 70 Und er leugnete abermals. Und nach einer kleinen Weile sprachen die, die dabeistanden, abermals zu Petrus: Wahrhaftig, du bist einer von denen; denn du bist auch ein Galiläer. 71 Er aber fing an, sich zu verfluchen und zu schwören: Ich kenne den Menschen nicht, von dem ihr redet. 72 Und alsbald krähte der Hahn zum zweiten Mal. Da gedachte Petrus an das Wort, das Jesus zu ihm gesagt hatte: Ehe der Hahn zweimal kräht, wirst du mich dreimal verleugnen. Und er fing an zu weinen.
