1And Joshua the son of Nun sent[1] two men secretly from Shittim as spies, saying, “Go, view the land, especially Jericho.” And they went and came into the house of a prostitute whose name was Rahab and lodged there. (Nu 25:1; Mt 1:5; Heb 11:31; Jas 2:25)2And it was told to the king of Jericho, “Behold, men of Israel have come here tonight to search out the land.”3Then the king of Jericho sent to Rahab, saying, “Bring out the men who have come to you, who entered your house, for they have come to search out all the land.”4But the woman had taken the two men and hidden them. And she said, “True, the men came to me, but I did not know where they were from.5And when the gate was about to be closed at dark, the men went out. I do not know where the men went. Pursue them quickly, for you will overtake them.”6But she had brought them up to the roof and hid them with the stalks of flax that she had laid in order on the roof.7So the men pursued after them on the way to the Jordan as far as the fords. And the gate was shut as soon as the pursuers had gone out. (Jud 3:28; Jud 7:24)8Before the men[2] lay down, she came up to them on the roof9and said to the men, “I know that the Lord has given you the land, and that the fear of you has fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you. (Ex 15:15; Ex 15:16; Ex 23:27; Jos 2:11; Jos 2:24)10For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon and Og, whom you devoted to destruction.[3] (Ex 14:21; Nu 21:23; Nu 21:33; Jos 4:23; Ps 135:11; Ps 136:19)11And as soon as we heard it, our hearts melted, and there was no spirit left in any man because of you, for the Lord your God, he is God in the heavens above and on the earth beneath. (Ex 15:14; De 4:39; Jos 2:9; Jos 5:1; Jos 7:5; 2Sa 17:10; Ps 22:14; Isa 13:7; Eze 21:7)12Now then, please swear to me by the Lord that, as I have dealt kindly with you, you also will deal kindly with my father’s house, and give me a sure sign (Jos 2:18)13that you will save alive my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all who belong to them, and deliver our lives from death.”14And the men said to her, “Our life for yours even to death! If you do not tell this business of ours, then when the Lord gives us the land we will deal kindly and faithfully with you.” (Jud 1:24)15Then she let them down by a rope through the window, for her house was built into the city wall, so that she lived in the wall. (1Sa 19:12; Ac 9:25; 2Co 11:33)16And she said[4] to them, “Go into the hills, or the pursuers will encounter you, and hide there three days until the pursuers have returned. Then afterward you may go your way.”17The men said to her, “We will be guiltless with respect to this oath of yours that you have made us swear.18Behold, when we come into the land, you shall tie this scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down, and you shall gather into your house your father and mother, your brothers, and all your father’s household. (Jos 2:12; Jos 6:23)19Then if anyone goes out of the doors of your house into the street, his blood shall be on his own head, and we shall be guiltless. But if a hand is laid on anyone who is with you in the house, his blood shall be on our head. (Mt 27:25)20But if you tell this business of ours, then we shall be guiltless with respect to your oath that you have made us swear.” (Jos 2:14)21And she said, “According to your words, so be it.” Then she sent them away, and they departed. And she tied the scarlet cord in the window.22They departed and went into the hills and remained there three days until the pursuers returned, and the pursuers searched all along the way and found nothing.23Then the two men returned. They came down from the hills and passed over and came to Joshua the son of Nun, and they told him all that had happened to them. (Jos 2:7)24And they said to Joshua, “Truly the Lord has given all the land into our hands. And also, all the inhabitants of the land melt away because of us.” (Ex 23:31; Jos 2:9; Jos 21:44)

Und sie sprach: Ja, es sind Männer zu mir hereingekommen, aber ich wusste nicht, woher sie waren. (Jos 6:17)5Und als man das Stadttor schließen wollte, da es finster wurde, gingen die Männer hinaus, und ich weiß nicht, wo sie hingegangen sind. Jagt ihnen eilends nach, dann werdet ihr sie ergreifen.6Sie aber hatte sie auf das Dach steigen lassen und unter den Flachsstängeln versteckt, die sie auf dem Dach ausgebreitet hatte.7Die Verfolger aber jagten ihnen nach auf dem Wege zum Jordan bis an die Furten, und man schloss das Tor zu, als sie draußen waren.8Und ehe die Männer sich schlafen legten, stieg Rahab zu ihnen hinauf auf das Dach9und sprach zu ihnen: Ich weiß, dass der HERR euch das Land gegeben hat; denn ein Schrecken vor euch ist über uns gefallen, und alle Bewohner des Landes sind vor euch feige geworden. (Ex 23:27)10Denn wir haben gehört, wie der HERR das Wasser im Schilfmeer ausgetrocknet hat vor euch her, als ihr aus Ägypten zogt, und was ihr den beiden Königen der Amoriter, Sihon und Og, jenseits des Jordans getan habt, wie ihr an ihnen den Bann vollstreckt habt. (Ex 14:21; Nu 21:21)11Und seitdem wir das gehört haben, ist unser Herz verzagt und es wagt keiner mehr, vor euch zu atmen; denn der HERR, euer Gott, ist Gott oben im Himmel und unten auf Erden. (De 4:39; Jos 5:1)12So schwört mir nun bei dem HERRN, weil ich an euch Barmherzigkeit getan habe, dass auch ihr an meines Vaters Hause Barmherzigkeit tut, und gebt mir ein sicheres Zeichen, (Jos 6:23; Jos 6:25)13dass ihr leben lasst meinen Vater, meine Mutter, meine Brüder und meine Schwestern und alles, was sie haben, und uns vom Tode errettet.14Die Männer sprachen zu ihr: Tun wir nicht Barmherzigkeit und Treue an dir, wenn uns der HERR das Land gibt, so wollen wir selbst des Todes sein, sofern du unsere Sache nicht verrätst.15Da ließ Rahab sie an einem Seil durchs Fenster hinab; denn ihr Haus war an der Stadtmauer, und sie wohnte an der Mauer.16Und sie sprach zu ihnen: Geht auf das Gebirge, dass eure Verfolger euch nicht begegnen, und verbergt euch dort drei Tage, bis zurückkommen, die euch nachjagen; danach geht eures Weges.17Die Männer aber sprachen zu ihr: So wollen wir den Eid einlösen, den du uns hast schwören lassen:18Wenn wir ins Land kommen, so sollst du dies rote Seil in das Fenster knüpfen, durch das du uns herabgelassen hast, und zu dir ins Haus versammeln deinen Vater, deine Mutter, deine Brüder und deines Vaters ganzes Haus.19So soll es sein: Wer zur Tür deines Hauses herausgeht, dessen Blut komme über sein Haupt, aber wir seien unschuldig; doch das Blut aller, die in deinem Hause bleiben, soll über unser Haupt kommen, wenn Hand an sie gelegt wird.20Und wenn du etwas von dieser unserer Sache verrätst, so sind wir frei von dem Eid, den du uns hast schwören lassen.21Sie sprach: Es sei, wie ihr sagt!, und ließ sie gehen. Und sie gingen weg. Und sie knüpfte das rote Seil ins Fenster.22Sie aber gingen weg und kamen aufs Gebirge und blieben drei Tage dort, bis die zurückgekommen waren, die ihnen nachjagten. Denn sie hatten sie gesucht auf allen Straßen und doch nicht gefunden.23Da kehrten die beiden Männer um und gingen vom Gebirge herab und setzten über und kamen zu Josua, dem Sohn Nuns, und erzählten ihm alles, was ihnen begegnet war,24und sprachen zu Josua: Der HERR hat uns das ganze Land in unsere Hände gegeben, und es sind auch alle Bewohner des Landes vor uns feige geworden.
