1In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, (Jos 15:61; Jud 1:16; Mr 1:2; Lu 3:2; Joh 1:6)2“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”[1] (Da 2:44; Mt 4:17; Mt 6:10; Mt 10:7; Mr 1:15)3For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah when he said, “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare[2] the way of the Lord; make his paths straight.’” (Isa 40:3; Lu 1:76; Joh 1:23)4Now John wore a garment of camel’s hair and a leather belt around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey. The Baptism of Jesus
13Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. (Mt 4:17; Mt 10:7; Ac 13:24; Ac 19:4; Ro 12:2)3Denn dieser ist’s, von dem der Prophet Jesaja gesprochen und gesagt hat: »Es ist eine Stimme eines Predigers[1] in der Wüste: Bereitet dem Herrn den Weg und macht eben seine Steige!« (Joh 1:23)4Er aber, Johannes, hatte ein Gewand aus Kamelhaaren an und einen ledernen Gürtel um seine Lenden; seine Speise aber waren Heuschrecken und wilder Honig. Jesu Taufe

1A cette époque-là parut Jean-Baptiste, qui prêchait dans le désert de Judée.2Il disait: «Changez d'attitude, car le royaume des cieux est proche.»3Jean est celui que le prophète Esaïe avait annoncé lorsqu'il a dit: C'est la voix de celui qui crie dans le désert: ‘Préparez le chemin du Seigneur, rendez ses sentiers droits.’[1] (Isa 40:3)4Jean portait un vêtement en poil de chameau et une ceinture de cuir autour de la taille. Il se nourrissait de sauterelles et de miel sauvage.5Les habitants de Jérusalem, de toute la Judée et de toute la région du Jourdain se rendaient vers lui.6Reconnaissant publiquement leurs péchés, ils se faisaient baptiser par lui dans les eaux du Jourdain.7Cependant, quand il vit beaucoup de pharisiens[2] et de sadducéens[3] venir se faire baptiser par lui, il leur dit: «Races de vipères, qui vous a appris à fuir la colère à venir?8Produisez donc du fruit qui confirme votre changement d'attitude9et ne vous avisez pas de dire en vous-mêmes: ‘Nous avons Abraham pour ancêtre!’ En effet, je vous déclare que de ces pierres Dieu peut faire naître des descendants à Abraham.10Déjà la hache est mise à la racine des arbres; tout arbre qui ne produit pas de bons fruits sera donc coupé et jeté au feu.11Moi, je vous baptise d'eau en vue de la repentance[4], mais celui qui vient après moi est plus puissant que moi et je ne suis pas digne de porter ses sandales. Lui, il vous baptisera du Saint-Esprit et de feu.12Il a sa pelle à la main; il nettoiera son aire de battage et il amassera son blé dans le grenier, mais il brûlera la paille dans un feu qui ne s'éteint pas.»13Alors Jésus vint de la Galilée jusqu'au Jourdain vers Jean, pour être baptisé par lui,14mais Jean s'y opposait en disant: «C'est moi qui ai besoin d'être baptisé par toi, et c'est toi qui viens vers moi?»15Jésus lui répondit: «Laisse faire maintenant, car il est convenable que nous accomplissions ainsi tout ce qui est juste», et Jean ne lui résista plus.16Dès qu'il fut baptisé, Jésus sortit de l'eau. Alors le ciel s'ouvrit [pour lui] et il vit l'Esprit de Dieu descendre comme une colombe et venir sur lui.17Au même instant, une voix fit entendre du ciel ces paroles: «Celui-ci est mon Fils bien-aimé, qui a toute mon approbation.»
