Job’s Confession and Repentance

1 Then Job answered the Lord and said: 2 “I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted. (Ge 18:14; Mt 19:26) 3 ‘Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge?’ Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know. (Job 38:2; Ps 40:5; Ps 131:1; Ps 139:6)

4 ‘Hear, and I will speak; I will question you, and you make it known to me.’ (Job 38:3; Job 40:7) 5 I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you; 6 therefore I despise myself, and repent^[1] in dust and ashes.” (Ge 18:27; Job 2:8; Job 30:19)

The Lord Rebukes Job’s Friends

7 After the Lord had spoken these words to Job, the Lord said to Eliphaz the Temanite: “My anger burns against you and against your two friends, for you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has. (1Ch 1:45; Job 2:11) 8 Now therefore take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and offer up a burnt offering for yourselves. And my servant Job shall pray for you, for I will accept his prayer not to deal with you according to your folly. For you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has.” (Ge 20:7; Nu 23:1; 1Sa 12:23; 1Ch 15:26; Job 1:5; Jas 5:16; 1Jo 5:16)

9 So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went and did what the Lord had told them, and the Lord accepted Job’s prayer. (Job 2:11)

The Lord Restores Job’s Fortunes

10 And the Lord restored the fortunes of Job, when he had prayed for his friends. And the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before. (Ps 14:7; Isa 40:2; Isa 61:7) 11 Then came to him all his brothers and sisters and all who had known him before, and ate bread with him in his house. And they showed him sympathy and comforted him for all the evil^[2] that the Lord had brought upon him. And each of them gave him a piece of money^[3] and a ring of gold. (Ge 24:22; Ge 33:19; Jos 24:32; Job 2:11; Job 19:13)

12 And the Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning. And he had 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 yoke of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys. (Job 1:3; Job 8:7; Job 42:10) 13 He had also seven sons and three daughters. (Job 1:2) 14 And he called the name of the first daughter Jemimah, and the name of the second Keziah, and the name of the third Keren-happuch. 15 And in all the land there were no women so beautiful as Job’s daughters. And their father gave them an inheritance among their brothers. (Nu 27:1) 16 And after this Job lived 140 years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, four generations. (Ge 50:23; Ps 128:6; Isa 53:10) 17 And Job died, an old man, and full of days. (Job 5:26)

Hiobs letzte Antwort an den Herrn

1 Und Hiob antwortete dem HERRN und sprach: 2 Ich erkenne, dass du alles vermagst, und nichts, das du dir vorgenommen, ist dir zu schwer. 3 »Wer ist der, der den Ratschluss verhüllt mit Worten ohne Verstand?« Darum hab ich ohne Einsicht geredet, was mir zu hoch ist und ich nicht verstehe. (Job 38:2) 4 »So höre nun, lass mich reden; ich will dich fragen, lehre mich!« (Job 38:3) 5 Ich hatte von dir nur vom Hörensagen vernommen; aber nun hat mein Auge dich gesehen. (Job 19:26) 6 Darum gebe ich auf und bereue in Staub und Asche.

Gott rechtfertigt Hiob

7 Als nun der HERR diese Worte mit Hiob geredet hatte, sprach er zu Elifas von Teman: Mein Zorn ist entbrannt über dich und über deine beiden Freunde; denn ihr habt nicht recht von mir geredet wie mein Knecht Hiob. 8 So nehmt euch nun sieben junge Stiere und sieben Widder und geht hin zu meinem Knecht Hiob und opfert Brandopfer für euch; aber mein Knecht Hiob soll für euch bitten; denn ihn will ich erhören, dass ich euch nichts Schlimmes antue. Denn ihr habt nicht recht von mir geredet wie mein Knecht Hiob. (1Ch 15:26; Eze 14:14) 9 Da gingen hin Elifas von Teman, Bildad von Schuach und Zofar von Naama und taten, wie der HERR ihnen gesagt hatte. Und der HERR erhörte Hiob. 10 Und der HERR wandte das Geschick Hiobs, als er für seine Freunde bat. Und der HERR gab Hiob doppelt so viel, wie er gehabt hatte. (Job 1:3; Job 8:7) 11 Und es kamen zu ihm alle seine Brüder und alle seine Schwestern und alle, die ihn früher gekannt hatten, und aßen mit ihm in seinem Hause und sprachen ihm zu und trösteten ihn über alles Unglück, das der HERR über ihn hatte kommen lassen. Und ein jeder gab ihm ein Goldstück und einen goldenen Ring. (Job 19:13; Job 19:19) 12 Und der HERR segnete Hiob fortan mehr als zuvor, er besaß vierzehntausend Schafe und sechstausend Kamele und tausend Joch Rinder und tausend Eselinnen. 13 Und er bekam sieben Söhne und drei Töchter (Job 1:2) 14 und nannte die erste Jemima, die zweite Kezia und die dritte Keren-Happuch^[1]. 15 Und es fanden sich so schöne Frauen wie die Töchter Hiobs im ganzen Land nicht. Und ihr Vater gab ihnen Erbteil unter ihren Brüdern. (Nu 27:8) 16 Und Hiob lebte danach hundertvierzig Jahre und sah seine Kinder und Kindeskinder bis in das vierte Glied. (Ps 90:10) 17 Und Hiob starb alt und lebenssatt. (Ge 25:8; Ge 35:29; 1Ch 29:28)

Aveu par Job de son ignorance

1 Job répondit à l'Eternel: 2 «Je reconnais que tout est possible pour toi et que rien ne peut s'opposer à tes projets. 3 ‘Qui est celui qui dissimule mes plans par un manque de savoir?’ Oui, j'ai parlé, sans les comprendre, de merveilles qui me dépassent et que je ne connais pas. 4 ‘Ecoute-moi et je parlerai! Je t'interrogerai et tu me renseigneras.’ 5 Mon oreille avait entendu parler de toi, mais maintenant mon œil t'a vu. 6 C'est pourquoi je me condamne et je reconnais mes torts sur la poussière et sur la cendre.»

Retour de Job à la prospérité

7 Après avoir adressé ces paroles à Job, l'Eternel dit à Eliphaz de Théman: «Je suis en colère contre toi et contre tes deux amis parce que vous n'avez pas parlé de moi correctement comme l'a fait mon serviteur Job. 8 Prenez maintenant 7 taureaux et 7 béliers, allez trouver mon serviteur Job et offrez un holocauste pour vous. Mon serviteur Job priera pour vous, et c'est parce que j'ai de la considération pour lui que je ne vous traiterai pas conformément à votre folie. En effet, vous n'avez pas parlé de moi correctement comme l'a fait mon serviteur Job.» 9 Eliphaz de Théman, Bildad de Shuach et Tsophar de Naama allèrent faire comme l'Eternel leur avait dit, et l'Eternel eut de la considération pour Job. 10 L'Eternel rétablit la situation de Job quand celui-ci eut prié pour ses amis; il lui accorda le double de tout ce qu'il avait possédé. 11 Les frères, les sœurs et les anciennes connaissances de Job vinrent tous lui rendre visite, et ils mangèrent avec lui dans sa maison. Ils lui exprimèrent leur compassion et le réconfortèrent à cause de tout le malheur que l'Eternel avait fait venir sur lui. Chacun lui donna une pièce d'argent et un anneau d'or. 12 L'Eternel bénit la dernière partie de la vie de Job beaucoup plus que la première. Il posséda 14'000 brebis, 6000 chameaux, 1000 paires de bœufs et 1000 ânesses. 13 Il eut aussi 7 fils et 3 filles: 14 il appela la première Jemima, la deuxième Ketsia et la troisième Kéren-Happuc. 15 Dans tout le pays on ne trouvait pas d'aussi belles femmes que les filles de Job. Leur père leur accorda une part d'héritage parmi leurs frères. 16 Job vécut après cela 140 ans, et il vit ses fils et les descendants de ses fils jusqu'à la quatrième génération. 17 Puis il mourut, âgé et rassasié de jours.
