1Thus says the Lord, “Go, buy a potter’s earthenware flask, and take some of the elders of the people and some of the elders of the priests, (2Ki 19:2; 2Ki 23:1; Jer 18:2; Jer 19:10; Eze 8:1)2and go out to the Valley of the Son of Hinnom at the entry of the Potsherd Gate, and proclaim there the words that I tell you. (Jos 15:8)3You shall say, ‘Hear the word of the Lord, O kings of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem. Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I am bringing such disaster upon this place that the ears of everyone who hears of it will tingle. (1Sa 3:11; 2Ki 21:12; Jer 13:13; Jer 17:20)4Because the people have forsaken me and have profaned this place by making offerings in it to other gods whom neither they nor their fathers nor the kings of Judah have known; and because they have filled this place with the blood of innocents, (2Ki 21:16; Jer 1:16; Jer 2:34)5and have built the high places of Baal to burn their sons in the fire as burnt offerings to Baal, which I did not command or decree, nor did it come into my mind— (Le 18:21; De 17:3; Jer 7:31; Jer 32:35)6therefore, behold, days are coming, declares the Lord, when this place shall no more be called Topheth, or the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter. Everyone who passes by it will be horrified and will hiss because of all its wounds. Men shall bury in Topheth because there will be no place else to bury. (Ps 2:9; Pr 6:15; Isa 30:14; Jer 7:32; La 4:2)12Thus will I do to this place, declares the Lord, and to its inhabitants, making this city like Topheth. (Jer 7:31)6Darum siehe, es wird die Zeit kommen, spricht der HERR, dass man diese Stätte nicht mehr »Tofet« und »Tal Ben-Hinnom«, sondern »Würgetal« nennen wird.7Und ich will das Vorhaben Judas und Jerusalems an diesem Ort zunichtemachen und will sie durchs Schwert fallen lassen vor ihren Feinden und durch die Hand derer, die ihnen nach dem Leben trachten, und will ihre Leichname den Vögeln des Himmels und den Tieren auf dem Felde zum Fraß geben.8Und ich will diese Stadt zum Entsetzen und zum Spott machen, dass alle, die vorübergehen, sich entsetzen und spotten über alle ihre Plagen. Und man wird im Tofet begraben, weil sonst kein Raum dafür da sein wird. (Isa 30:14; Jer 7:32)12So will ich’s mit dieser Stätte und ihren Bewohnern machen, spricht der HERR, dass diese Stadt wie das Tofet werden soll.13Und die Häuser Jerusalems und die Häuser der Könige von Juda sollen ebenso unrein werden wie die Stätte Tofet, alle Häuser, wo sie auf den Dächern dem ganzen Heer des Himmels geopfert und andern Göttern Trankopfer dargebracht haben. 14Und als Jeremia vom Tofet zurückkam, wohin ihn der HERR gesandt hatte, um zu weissagen, trat er in den Vorhof am Hause des HERRN und sprach zu allem Volk:15So spricht der HERR Zebaoth, der Gott Israels: Siehe, ich will über diese Stadt und über alle ihre Ortschaften all das Unheil kommen lassen, das ich gegen sie geredet habe, weil sie halsstarrig sind und meine Worte nicht hören wollen.

Tous ceux qui passeront près d'elle seront consternés et siffleront à la vue de toutes ses blessures.9Je leur ferai manger la chair de leurs fils et de leurs filles et ils se mangeront les uns les autres, à cause du siège et de l'angoisse que leur imposeront leurs ennemis et ceux qui en veulent à leur vie.10»Tu briseras ensuite la cruche sous les yeux des hommes qui t'auront accompagné11et tu leur diras: ‘Voici ce que dit l'Eternel, le maître de l'univers: C'est ainsi que je briserai ce peuple et cette ville, tout comme on brise le vase d'un potier qui ne peut plus être réparé, et l'on enterrera les morts à Topheth, faute de place pour les enterrer ailleurs.’12Voilà ce que je ferai à cet endroit et à ses habitants, déclare l'Eternel, et je rendrai cette ville pareille à Topheth.13Les maisons de Jérusalem et les palais des rois de Juda seront impurs comme l'emplacement de Topheth, toutes les maisons où, sur leurs toits, ils ont fait brûler de l'encens en l'honneur de tous les corps célestes et versé des offrandes liquides en l'honneur d'autres dieux.»

14Ensuite, Jérémie revint de Topheth, où l'Eternel l'avait envoyé prophétiser. Puis il se tint dans le parvis de la maison de l'Eternel et dit à tout le peuple:15«Voici ce que dit l'Eternel, le maître de l'univers, le Dieu d'Israël: Je vais faire venir sur cette ville et sur toutes les villes qui dépendent d'elle tout le mal que je lui ai prédit, parce qu'ils se sont montrés réfractaires au lieu d'écouter mes paroles.»
