The Lord Has Drawn His Sword

1 ^[1] The word of the Lord came to me: 2 “Son of man, set your face toward Jerusalem and preach against the sanctuaries.^[2] Prophesy against the land of Israel (Eze 2:1; Eze 20:46) 3 and say to the land of Israel, Thus says the Lord: Behold, I am against you and will draw my sword from its sheath and will cut off from you both righteous and wicked. 4 Because I will cut off from you both righteous and wicked, therefore my sword shall be drawn from its sheath against all flesh from south to north. 5 And all flesh shall know that I am the Lord. I have drawn my sword from its sheath; it shall not be sheathed again. (Eze 20:48; Eze 21:3; Eze 21:30) 6 “As for you, son of man, groan; with breaking heart and bitter grief, groan before their eyes. (Eze 6:11; Eze 12:3; Eze 12:18) 7 And when they say to you, ‘Why do you groan?’ you shall say, ‘Because of the news that it is coming. Every heart will melt, and all hands will be feeble; every spirit will faint, and all knees will be weak as water. Behold, it is coming, and it will be fulfilled,’” declares the Lord God. 8 And the word of the Lord came to me: 9 “Son of man, prophesy and say, Thus says the Lord, say: “A sword, a sword is sharpened and also polished, (Eze 21:2; Eze 21:3) 10 sharpened for slaughter, polished to flash like lightning! (Or shall we rejoice? You have despised the rod, my son, with everything of wood.)^[3] (Eze 20:47; Eze 21:15; Eze 21:28; Jas 5:5)

11 So the sword is given to be polished, that it may be grasped in the hand. It is sharpened and polished to be given into the hand of the slayer. (Eze 21:19) 12 Cry out and wail, son of man, for it is against my people. It is against all the princes of Israel. They are delivered over to the sword with my people. Strike therefore upon your thigh. (Jer 31:19; Eze 21:6) 13 For it will not be a testing—what could it do if you despise the rod?”^[4] declares the Lord God. (Eze 21:10) 14 “As for you, son of man, prophesy. Clap your hands and let the sword come down twice, yes, three times,^[5] the sword for those to be slain. 15 that their hearts may melt, and many stumble.^[6] At all their gates I have given the glittering sword. Ah, it is made like lightning; it is taken up^[7] for slaughter. (Eze 21:10) 16 Cut sharply to the right; set yourself to the left, wherever your face is directed. 17 I also will clap my hands, and I will satisfy my fury; I the Lord have spoken.” (Eze 5:13; Eze 17:24; Eze 21:14) 18 The word of the Lord came to me again: 19 “As for you, son of man, mark two ways for the sword of the king of Babylon to come. Both of them shall come from the same land. And make a signpost; make it at the head of the way to a city. (Eze 21:11; Eze 21:21) 20 Mark a way for the sword to come to Rabbah of the Ammonites and to Judah, into Jerusalem the fortified. (Jer 49:1; Eze 25:1; Am 1:13) 21 For the king of Babylon stands at the parting of the way, at the head of the two ways, to use divination. He shakes the arrows; he consults the teraphim;^[8] he looks at the liver. (Ge 31:19; Eze 21:19) 22 Into his right hand comes the divination for Jerusalem, to set battering rams, to open the mouth with murder, to lift up the voice with shouting, to set battering rams against the gates, to cast up mounds, to build siege towers. (Eze 4:2; Eze 26:9) 23 But to them it will seem like a false divination. They have sworn solemn oaths, but he brings their guilt to remembrance, that they may be taken. (Eze 17:13; Eze 17:20) 24 “Therefore thus says the Lord God: Because you have made your guilt to be remembered, in that your transgressions are uncovered, so that in all your deeds your sins appear—because you have come to remembrance, you shall be taken in hand. (Eze 17:20) 25 And you, O profane^[9] wicked one, prince of Israel, whose day has come, the time of your final punishment, (2Ch 36:13; Jer 52:2; Eze 17:19; Eze 21:29; Eze 22:3; Eze 35:5)

26 thus says the Lord God: Remove the turban and take off the crown. Things shall not remain as they are. Exalt that which is low, and bring low that which is exalted. (Eze 17:24; Lu 1:52) 27 A ruin, ruin, ruin I will make it. This also shall not be, until he comes, the one to whom judgment belongs, and I will give it to him. 1 Und des HERRN Wort geschah zu mir: 2 Du Menschenkind, richte dein Angesicht nach Teman hin und rufe nach Süden und weissage gegen den Wald im Südland 3 und sprich zum Wald im Südland: Höre des HERRN Wort! So spricht Gott der HERR: Siehe, ich will in dir ein Feuer anzünden, das soll jeden grünen und jeden dürren Baum verzehren, dass man seine Flamme nicht wird löschen können, sondern es soll durch sie jedes Angesicht versengt werden vom Südland bis zum Norden hin. 4 Und alles Fleisch soll sehen, dass ich, der HERR, es angezündet habe und niemand es löschen kann. 5 Ich aber sprach: Ach, Herr HERR, sie sagen von mir: Redet der nicht immer in Rätseln?

Ein Schwert ist bereit

6 Und des HERRN Wort geschah zu mir: 7 Du Menschenkind, richte dein Angesicht gegen Jerusalem und rede gegen sein Heiligtum und weissage gegen das Land Israels 8 und sprich zum Land Israels: So spricht der HERR: Siehe, ich will an dich; ich will mein Schwert aus der Scheide ziehen und will in dir ausrotten Gerechte und Ungerechte. 9 Weil ich denn in dir Gerechte und Ungerechte ausrotte, darum soll mein Schwert aus der Scheide fahren über alles Fleisch vom Südland bis zum Norden hin. 10 Und alles Fleisch soll erfahren, dass ich, der HERR, mein Schwert aus der Scheide gezogen habe; es soll nicht wieder eingesteckt werden. 11 Und du, Menschenkind, sollst seufzen, bis dir die Lenden wehtun, ja, bitterlich sollst du seufzen, dass sie es sehen! 12 Und wenn sie zu dir sagen werden: Warum seufzest du?, so sollst du sagen: Um einer Botschaft willen, die kommen wird; vor ihr werden alle Herzen verzagen und alle Hände sinken, allen der Mut entfallen und alle Knie weich werden. Siehe, es kommt und wird geschehen, spricht Gott der HERR. (Eze 7:17) 13 Und des HERRN Wort geschah zu mir: 14 Du Menschenkind, weissage und sprich: So spricht der Herr: Sprich: Ein Schwert, ja, ein Schwert ist geschärft und geschliffen. 15 Es ist geschärft, dass es schlachten soll; es ist geschliffen, dass es blinken soll. Wie sollten wir uns da freuen? Mein Sohn, du hast den Stock verachtet und jeden Rat. 16 Und er hat ein Schwert zum Schleifen gegeben, dass man’s ergreifen soll; es ist geschärft und geschliffen, dass man’s dem Henker in die Hand gebe. 17 Schrei und heule, du Menschenkind; denn es geht über mein Volk und über alle Regenten in Israel, die dem Schwert verfallen sind samt meinem Volk. Darum schlage auf die Hüfte; 18 denn die Prüfung ist da, und wie sollte es nicht geschehen, da du doch den Stock verachtet hast?, spricht Gott der HERR. (Isa 1:5) 19 Und du, Menschenkind, weissage und schlag deine Hände zusammen! Denn das Schwert wird zweifach, ja dreifach kommen, ein Schlachtschwert, ein großes Schlachtschwert, das sie umkreisen wird, 20 damit die Herzen verzagen und viele fallen sollen; an allen ihren Toren lasse ich das Schwert wüten. Wehe, es ist zum Blitzen gemacht, zum Schlachten geschärft! 21 Hau drein zur Rechten und Linken, wohin deine Schneiden gewandt sind! 22 Dann will auch ich meine Hände zusammenschlagen und meinen Zorn stillen. Ich, der HERR, habe es gesagt.

Das Schwert des Königs von Babel

23 Und des HERRN Wort geschah zu mir: 24 Du Menschenkind, mach dir zwei Wege, auf denen das Schwert des Königs von Babel kommen kann; sie sollen aber beide von einem einzigen Land ausgehen. Und stelle einen Wegweiser an den Anfang eines jeden Weges, der zu einer Stadt weisen soll, 25 und mache den einen Weg, damit das Schwert nach Rabba kommen kann, der Stadt der Ammoniter, und den andern nach Juda, zu der festen Stadt Jerusalem. 26 Denn der König von Babel steht an der Wegscheide, am Anfang der beiden Wege, um sich wahrsagen zu lassen: Er wirft mit den Pfeilen das Los, befragt seinen Götzen und beschaut die Leber. 27 Und das Los in seiner Rechten deutet nach Jerusalem, dass er Sturmböcke heranführe: Da soll er den Mund auftun mit großem Geschrei, die Stimme erheben mit Kriegsgeschrei, Sturmböcke heranführen gegen die Tore, einen Wall aufschütten und ein Bollwerk bauen. – (Eze 4:2) 28 Aber ihnen wird diese Wahrsagung trügerisch scheinen; haben sie doch heilige Eide empfangen. Er aber wird sie an ihre Schuld erinnern, dass sie dabei behaftet werden. 29 Darum, so spricht Gott der HERR: Weil ihr an eure Schuld erinnert habt und euer Ungehorsam offenbar geworden ist, sodass man eure Sünden sieht in all euren Taten, ja, weil ihr daran erinnert habt, sollt ihr dabei behaftet werden. 30 Und du, Fürst in Israel, du unheiliger Frevler, dessen Tag kommen wird, wenn die Schuld zum Ende geführt hat, – 31 so spricht Gott der HERR: Weg mit dem Kopfbund und herunter mit der Krone! Denn nichts bleibt, wie es ist, sondern was niedrig ist, soll erhöht werden, und was hoch ist, soll erniedrigt werden. (Ex 28:4; Lu 18:14) 32 Zu Trümmern, zu Trümmern, zu Trümmern will ich sie machen – aber auch dies wird nicht bleiben –, bis der kommt, der das Recht hat; dem will ich es geben. (Ge 49:10)

Das Schwert über Ammon

33 Und du, Menschenkind, weissage und sprich: So spricht Gott der HERR über die Ammoniter und über ihr Schmähen: Du sollst sagen: Das Schwert, das Schwert ist gezückt, dass es schlachten soll; es ist geschliffen, dass es töten soll, und soll blinken, (Eze 25:2) 34 während du dir trügerische Gesichte schauen und Lügen wahrsagen lässt; das Schwert soll an den Hals unheiliger Frevler gesetzt werden, deren Tag kommen wird, wenn die Schuld zum Ende geführt hat. 35 Stecke es wieder in die Scheide! Ich will dich richten an dem Ort, an dem du geschaffen, und im Land, in dem du geboren bist. 36 Und ich will meinen Zorn über dich ausschütten; ich will das Feuer meines Grimms über dich entfachen und will dich rohen Leuten preisgeben, die Verderben schmieden. 37 Du sollst dem Feuer zum Fraß werden, und dein Blut soll im Lande vergossen werden, und man wird nicht mehr an dich denken; denn ich, der HERR, habe es geredet.

1 La parole de l'Eternel m'a été adressée: 2 «Fils de l'homme, tourne ton visage vers la droite et interpelle le sud! Prophétise à l'intention de la forêt qui est dans la région du Néguev! 3 Tu diras à la forêt du Néguev: ‘Ecoute la parole de l'Eternel! Voici ce que dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel: Je vais allumer un feu à l'intérieur de toi, et il dévorera tout arbre vert et tout arbre sec. Cet incendie ne s'éteindra pas et tous les visages en porteront les cicatrices, du sud au nord.’ 4 Tous comprendront alors que c'est moi, l'Eternel, qui ai allumé ce feu. Il ne s'éteindra pas.» 5 J'ai dit: «Ah! Seigneur Eternel! Eux, ils disent de moi: ‘Ne raconte-t-il pas des histoires?’» 6 La parole de l'Eternel m'a été adressée: 7 «Fils de l'homme, tourne ton visage vers Jérusalem et interpelle les lieux saints! Prophétise à l'intention du territoire d'Israël! 8 Tu diras au territoire d'Israël: ‘Voici ce que dit l'Eternel: Je m'en prends à toi. Je tirerai mon épée de son fourreau et j'éliminerai de chez toi le juste et le méchant. 9 Puisque je veux éliminer de chez toi le juste et le méchant, mon épée sortira de son fourreau pour les frapper tous, du sud au nord.’ 10 Tous reconnaîtront alors que c'est moi, l'Eternel, qui ai tiré mon épée de son fourreau. Elle n'y rentrera plus. 11 »Quant à toi, fils de l'homme, gémis! Plié en deux et rempli d'amertume, gémis sous leurs yeux! 12 S'ils te demandent: ‘Pourquoi gémis-tu?’ tu répondras: ‘A cause d'une nouvelle qui arrive. Le courage fondra, tous baisseront les bras, tous les esprits seront défaillants, tous auront les genoux qui flanchent. La voici qui arrive, elle est là! déclare le Seigneur, l'Eternel.’» 13 La parole de l'Eternel m'a été adressée: 14 «Fils de l'homme, prophétise! Tu diras: ‘Voici ce que dit le Seigneur.’ Annonce l'épée, l'épée! Elle est aiguisée, elle est bien polie. 15 C'est pour massacrer qu'elle est aiguisée, c'est pour étinceler qu'elle est polie. Comment pourrions-nous nous réjouir du sceptre de mon fils? L'épée méprise tout ce qui est en bois. 16 On l'a donnée à polir pour qu'elle soit prête à l'emploi. Elle est aiguisée, l'épée, elle est polie pour armer la main du tueur. 17 »Crie et lamente-toi, fils de l'homme, car elle est utilisée contre mon peuple, contre tous les princes d'Israël: ils sont livrés à l'épée avec mon peuple. Frappe-toi donc la cuisse! 18 Oui, c'est la mise à l'épreuve! Et que se passera-t-il, si même le sceptre méprisé n'est plus là? déclare le Seigneur, l'Eternel. 19 »Quant à toi, fils de l'homme, prophétise! Frappe des mains et les coups d'épée redoubleront, tripleront! C'est l'épée du carnage, l'épée du grand carnage, l'épée qui doit les poursuivre 20 pour que les cœurs se liquéfient, que les chutes se multiplient. »A toutes leurs portes, je les menace de l'épée. Ah! elle est faite pour étinceler, elle est aiguisée pour massacrer. 21 Rassemble tes forces, tourne-toi à droite! Replace-toi, tourne-toi à gauche! Fais face de tous les côtés! 22 Moi aussi, je frapperai des mains et j'assouvirai ma fureur. C'est moi, l'Eternel, qui ai parlé.» 23 La parole de l'Eternel m'a été adressée: 24 «Et toi, fils de l'homme, trace deux chemins que pourra emprunter l'épée du roi de Babylone. Tous les deux doivent sortir du même pays. Au début des chemins, place un panneau qui signale la ville où ils conduisent. 25 Tu traceras l'un des chemins pour que l'épée arrive à Rabba, la capitale des Ammonites, et l'autre pour qu'elle arrive en Juda, à Jérusalem, la ville fortifiée. 26 En effet, le roi de Babylone se tient au carrefour, au début des deux chemins, pour faire des prédictions: il secoue les flèches, il interroge les théraphim, il examine le foie. 27 Dans sa main droite se trouve le sort qui désigne Jérusalem: on devra y placer des machines de guerre, commander la tuerie et pousser des cris de guerre; on positionnera des machines de guerre contre les portes, on mettra en place des remblais, on construira des retranchements. 28 Ils ne voient là que de fausses prédictions, eux qui se sont engagés par serment. Mais lui se souvient de leur faute, de sorte qu'ils seront capturés. 29 »C'est pourquoi, voici ce que dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel: Puisque vous avez fait en sorte qu'on se souvienne de votre faute en dévoilant vos transgressions, en faisant apparaître vos péchés dans tous vos agissements, puisqu'on n'a pas pu vous oublier, il vous capturera. 30 »Quant à toi, méchant et sacrilège prince d'Israël, ton heure arrive au moment où la faute est à son comble. 31 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel: La tiare sera retirée, le diadème sera enlevé. Tout va changer: ce qui est bas sera élevé, et ce qui est haut sera abaissé. 32 J'en ferai une ruine, une terrible ruine. Il n'y en aura plus de pareille jusqu'à la venue de celui à qui appartient le jugement, celui à qui je l'aurai remis. 33 »Quant à toi, fils de l'homme, prophétise! Tu annonceras: ‘Voici ce que dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel, au sujet des Ammonites et de leurs insultes.’ Tu annonceras l'épée, l'épée. Elle est tirée pour massacrer, elle est polie pour dévorer, pour étinceler! 34 ‘Malgré tes fausses visions et tes prédictions mensongères, l'épée te fera tomber parmi les cadavres des méchants, ceux dont l'heure arrive au moment où la faute est à son comble. 35 Remets ton épée dans son fourreau! Je te jugerai là où tu as été créé, dans ton pays d'origine. 36 Je déverserai mon indignation sur toi, je soufflerai contre toi avec le feu de ma fureur et je te livrerai à des hommes brutaux, spécialistes de la destruction. 37 Tu ne serviras qu'à nourrir le feu; ton sang coulera au milieu du pays; on ne se souviendra plus de toi.’ En effet, moi, l'Eternel, j'ai parlé.»
