Parable of Two Eagles and a Vine

1 The word of the Lord came to me: 

2 “Son of man, propound a riddle, and speak a parable to the house of Israel; (Eze 2:1; Eze 20:49; Eze 24:3) 

3 say, Thus says the Lord God: A great eagle with great wings and long pinions, rich in plumage of many colors, came to Lebanon and took the top of the cedar. (Jer 22:23; Jer 48:40; Eze 17:7; Eze 17:22; Eze 31:3; Eze 31:10) 

4 He broke off the topmost of its young twigs and carried it to a land of trade and set it in a city of merchants. 

5 Then he took of the seed of the land and planted it in fertile soil. He placed it beside abundant waters. He set it like a willow twig, (De 8:7; Isa 44:4) 

6 and it sprouted and became a low spreading vine, and its branches turned toward him, and its roots remained where it stood. So it became a vine and produced branches and put out boughs. (Eze 15:6; Eze 17:14) 

7 “And there was another great eagle with great wings and much plumage, and behold, this vine bent its roots toward him and shot forth its branches toward him from the bed where it was planted, that he might water it. (Eze 17:15; Eze 31:4) 

8 It had been planted on good soil by abundant waters, that it might produce branches and bear fruit and become a noble vine. (Eze 17:5) 

9 “Say, Thus says the Lord God: Will it thrive? Will he not pull up its roots and cut off its fruit, so that it withers, so that all its fresh sprouting leaves wither? It will not take a strong arm or many people to pull it from its roots. (Eze 17:7) 

10 Behold, it is planted; will it thrive? Will it not utterly wither when the east wind strikes it—wither away on the bed where it sprouted?” (Eze 19:12; Ho 13:15) 

11 Then the word of the Lord came to me: 

12 “Say now to the rebellious house, Do you not know what these things mean? Tell them, behold, the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, and took her king and her princes and brought them to him to Babylon. (2Ki 24:11; Eze 2:3; Eze 12:9) 

13 And he took one of the royal offspring and made a covenant with him, putting him under oath (the chief men of the land he had taken away), (2Ki 24:14; 2Ki 24:17; 2Ch 36:13; Eze 17:15; Eze 17:18; Eze 21:23) 

14 that the kingdom might be humble and not lift itself up, and keep his covenant that it might stand. 

15 But he rebelled against him by sending his ambassadors to Egypt, that they might give him horses and a large army. Will he thrive? Can one escape who does such things? Can he break the covenant and yet escape? (De 17:16; 2Ki 24:20; 2Ch 36:13; Isa 31:1; Isa 31:3; Isa 36:6; Isa 36:9; Jer 37:5; Eze 16:59; Eze 17:7; Eze 17:9; Eze 17:13; Eze 23:27) 

16 “As I live, declares the Lord God, surely in the place where the king dwells who made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant with him he broke, in Babylon he shall die. (Eze 12:13; Eze 16:48; Eze 17:13) 

17 Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company will not help him in war, when mounds are cast up and siege walls built to cut off many lives. (Jer 37:5; Eze 4:2; Eze 17:15) 

18 He despised the oath in breaking the covenant, and behold, he gave his hand and did all these things; he shall not escape. 

19 Therefore thus says the Lord God: As I live, surely it is my oath that he despised, and my covenant that he broke. I will return it upon his head. 

20 I will spread my net over him, and he shall be taken in my snare, and I will bring him to Babylon and enter into judgment with him there for the treachery he has committed against me. (Eze 12:13; Eze 14:13; Eze 20:35; Eze 38:22) 

21 And all the pick of his troops shall fall by the sword, and the survivors shall be scattered to every wind, and you shall know that I am the Lord; I have spoken.” (Eze 5:10; Eze 17:24; Eze 21:17; Eze 21:32; Eze 26:5; Eze 26:14; Eze 28:10; Eze 30:12; Eze 34:24; Eze 39:5) 

22 Thus says the Lord God: “I myself will take a sprig from the lofty top of the cedar and will set it out. I will break off from the topmost of its young twigs a tender one, and I myself will plant it on a high and lofty mountain. (Ps 2:6; Eze 17:3; Eze 17:4) 

23 On the mountain height of Israel will I plant it, that it may bear branches and produce fruit and become a noble cedar. And under it will dwell every kind of bird; in the shade of its branches birds of every sort will nest. (Eze 20:40; Eze 31:6; Eze 34:14; Da 4:12; Mt 13:32) 

24 And all the trees of the field shall know that I am the Lord; I bring low the high tree, and make high the low tree, dry up the green tree, and make the dry tree flourish. I am the Lord; I have spoken, and I will do it.” (Eze 20:47; Eze 21:26; Eze 22:14; Eze 24:14; Eze 36:36; Eze 37:14; Lu 23:31)

Das Gleichnis vom Zedernwipfel und vom Weinstock

1 Und des HERRN Wort geschah zu mir: 

2 Du Menschenkind, lege dem Hause Israel ein Rätsel vor und ein Gleichnis 

3 und sprich: So spricht Gott der HERR: Ein großer Adler mit großen Flügeln und langen Fittichen und vollen Schwingen, die bunt waren, kam auf den Libanon und nahm hinweg den Wipfel einer Zeder 

4 und brach die Spitze ab und führte sie ins Land der Händler und setzte sie in die Stadt der Kaufleute. (Eze 16:29) 

5 Dann nahm er ein Gewächs des Landes und pflanzte es in gutes Land, wo viel Wasser war, und setzte es am Ufer ein. 

6 Und es wuchs und wurde ein ausgebreiteter Weinstock mit niedrigem Stamm; denn seine Ranken bogen sich zu ihm und seine Wurzeln blieben unter ihm; und so wurde es ein Weinstock, der Schösslinge hervortrieb und Zweige. (Eze 19:10) 

7 Da kam ein anderer großer Adler mit großen Flügeln und starken Schwingen. Und siehe, der Weinstock bog seine Wurzeln zu diesem Adler hin und streckte seine Ranken ihm entgegen; der Adler sollte ihm mehr Wasser geben als das Beet, in das er gepflanzt war. 

8 Und er war doch auf guten Boden an viel Wasser gepflanzt, sodass er wohl hätte Zweige bringen können, Früchte tragen und ein herrlicher Weinstock werden. 

9 So sage nun: So spricht Gott der HERR: Sollte der geraten? Wird man nicht seine Wurzeln ausreißen, dass seine Früchte verderben? Und er wird verdorren; alle Blätter, die ihm gewachsen sind, werden verwelken. Ohne große Kraft und ohne viel Volk wird man ihn mit seinen Wurzeln ausreißen. 

10 Siehe, er ist zwar gepflanzt; aber sollte er geraten? Sobald der Ostwind ihn trifft, wird er verdorren auf dem Beet, auf dem er gewachsen ist. 

11 Und des HERRN Wort geschah zu mir: 

12 Sprich doch zu dem Haus des Widerspruchs: Wisst ihr nicht, was damit gemeint ist? Und sprich: Siehe, es kam der König von Babel nach Jerusalem und nahm seinen König und seine Oberen und führte sie weg zu sich nach Babel. (2Ki 24:10; 2Ki 24:15) 

13 Und er nahm einen vom königlichen Geschlecht und schloss einen Bund mit ihm und nahm einen Eid von ihm; aber die Gewaltigen im Lande führte er fort, (2Ki 24:17; 2Ch 36:13) 

14 damit das Königtum niedrig bliebe und sich nicht erheben könnte, sondern sein Bund gehalten würde und bestünde. 

15 Aber er fiel von ihm ab und sandte seine Boten nach Ägypten, dass man ihm Rosse und viel Kriegsvolk schicken sollte. Sollte es ihm gelingen? Sollte davonkommen, wer das tut? Sollte davonkommen, wer den Bund bricht? 

16 So wahr ich lebe, spricht Gott der HERR: An dem Ort des Königs, der ihn als König eingesetzt hat, dessen Eid er verachtet und dessen Bund er gebrochen hat, da soll er sterben, mitten in Babel. 

17 Auch wird ihm der Pharao nicht beistehen im Kriege mit einem großen Heer und viel Volk, wenn man zum Sturm den Wall aufwerfen und die Bollwerke bauen wird, sodass viele umkommen. 

18 Denn weil er den Eid verachtet und den Bund gebrochen hat, weil er seine Hand darauf gegeben und doch dies alles getan hat, wird er nicht davonkommen. 

19 Darum, so spricht Gott der HERR: So wahr ich lebe, will ich meinen Eid, den er verachtet hat, und meinen Bund, den er gebrochen hat, auf seinen Kopf kommen lassen. 

20 Ich will mein Netz über ihn werfen, und er soll in meinem Garn gefangen werden, und ich will ihn nach Babel bringen und will dort mit ihm ins Gericht gehen, weil er mir die Treue gebrochen hat. (Eze 12:13) 

21 Und alle Auserlesenen von seiner ganzen Streitmacht sollen durchs Schwert fallen, und alle, die übrig geblieben sind, sollen in alle Winde zerstreut werden, und ihr sollt erfahren, dass ich, der HERR, es geredet habe. 

22 So spricht Gott der HERR: Dann will ich selbst von dem Wipfel der Zeder die Spitze wegnehmen und ihr einen Platz geben; ich will oben von ihren Zweigen ein zartes Reis brechen und will’s auf einen hohen und erhabenen Berg pflanzen. (Isa 11:1) 

23 Auf den hohen Berg Israels will ich’s pflanzen, dass es Zweige gewinnt und Früchte bringt und ein herrlicher Zedernbaum wird, sodass Vögel aller Art in ihm wohnen und alles, was fliegt, im Schatten seiner Zweige bleiben kann. (Eze 20:40; Da 4:9; Mt 13:32) 

24 Und alle Bäume auf dem Felde sollen erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin: Ich erniedrige den hohen Baum und erhöhe den niedrigen; ich lasse den grünen Baum verdorren und den dürren Baum lasse ich grünen. Ich, der HERR, rede es und tue es auch. (1Sa 2:7; Eze 21:31)

Parabole des deux aigles

1 La parole de l'Eternel m'a été adressée: 

2 «Fils de l'homme, propose une énigme, raconte une parabole à la communauté d'Israël! 

3 Tu annonceras: ‘Voici ce que dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel: »Un grand aigle, d'une grande envergure, aux longues ailes, couvert de plumes de toutes les couleurs, vint sur le Liban et enleva la cime d'un cèdre. 

4 Il arracha la plus haute de ses branches, l'emporta dans un pays de marchands et la déposa dans une ville de commerçants. 

5 Il prit un plant du pays et le plaça dans un terrain fertile. Il le mit près d'une eau abondante et le planta comme un saule. 

6 Ce rejeton poussa et devint un cep de vigne qui prenait de l'ampleur mais restait bas. Ses branches étaient tournées vers l'aigle et ses racines étaient sous lui. Il devint un cep de vigne, donna des pousses et produisit des rameaux. 

7 »Puis il y eut un autre grand aigle, de grande envergure, au plumage épais. De la terrasse où elle était plantée, cette vigne dirigea ses racines de son côté et tendit ses branches vers lui pour qu'il l'arrose. 

8 Elle était pourtant plantée dans un bon terrain, près d'une eau abondante, de manière à produire des sarments et à porter du fruit pour devenir une vigne magnifique.’ 

9 »Annonce: ‘Voici ce que dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel: Prospérera-t-elle? Le premier aigle ne va-t-il pas arracher ses racines, la dépouiller de son fruit et dessécher toutes ses jeunes pousses? Elle se desséchera et il ne faudra ni beaucoup de force ni un peuple nombreux pour la déraciner. 

10 Oui, elle a été plantée, mais prospérera-t-elle? Quand le vent d'est l'atteindra, ne séchera-t-elle pas? Elle séchera sur la terrasse où elle a poussé.’» 

11 La parole de l'Eternel m'a été adressée: 

12 «Dis à cette communauté de rebelles: ‘Ne savez-vous pas ce que cela signifie?’ Explique-leur: ‘Le roi de Babylone est venu à Jérusalem, il a capturé son roi et ses chefs et les a emmenés avec lui à Babylone. 

13 Il a choisi un homme de sang royal, a conclu une alliance avec lui et lui a fait prêter serment. Puis il a emmené les grands du pays 

14 pour que le royaume reste fragile et ne puisse pas se relever. Ainsi, il serait obligé de respecter son alliance pour se maintenir. 

15 Cependant, le nouveau roi s'est révolté contre lui en envoyant ses messagers en Egypte pour se procurer des chevaux et un grand nombre d'hommes. Celui qui s'est permis d'agir de cette manière pourra-t-il arriver à ses fins? Pourra-t-il s'en sortir? Il a violé une alliance et il s'en sortirait?’ 

16 »Aussi vrai que je suis vivant, déclare le Seigneur, l'Eternel, il mourra au milieu de Babylone, chez le roi qui l'avait mis sur le trône, puisqu'il a ignoré son engagement envers lui et a violé son alliance avec lui. 

17 Le pharaon ne pourra rien faire pour lui au moment du combat, malgré sa grande armée et sa population nombreuse, quand on mettra en place des remblais et qu'on construira des retranchements pour éliminer un grand nombre de vies. 

18 Il a ignoré un engagement en violant l'alliance. Alors qu'il avait donné sa main, il s'est permis d'agir de cette manière. Il ne s'en sortira pas! 

19 C'est pourquoi, voici ce que dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel: Aussi vrai que je suis vivant, c'est un engagement pris en mon nom qu'il a ignoré, c'est mon alliance qu'il a violée. Je ferai retomber cela sur sa tête. 

20 J'étendrai mon piège sur lui et il sera pris dans mon filet. Je l'emmènerai à Babylone et là, je le ferai passer en jugement pour son infidélité envers moi. 

21 Tous ses fugitifs, dans toutes ses troupes, tomberont par l'épée, et ceux qui resteront seront éparpillés à tout vent. Vous reconnaîtrez alors que c'est moi, l'Eternel, qui ai parlé. 

22 »Voici ce que dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel: J'enlèverai moi-même une pousse de la cime du cèdre majestueux et je la déplacerai. J'arracherai du sommet de ses jeunes branches une pousse délicate et je la planterai sur une montagne particulièrement haute. 

23 Je la planterai sur une haute montagne d'Israël. Elle portera des branches et produira des fruits, elle deviendra un cèdre magnifique. Toutes sortes d'oiseaux y feront leur nid, tout ce qui a des ailes s'abritera dans ses branches. 

24 Tous les arbres des champs reconnaîtront alors que c'est moi, l'Eternel, qui ai abaissé l'arbre qui s'élevait et élevé l'arbre qui était abaissé, qui ai desséché l'arbre vert et fait verdir l'arbre sec. Moi, l'Eternel, j'ai parlé, et j'agirai.»
