Our Help Is in the Name of the Lord

A Song of Ascents. Of David.

1 If it had not been the LORD who was on our side— let Israel now say— (Ps 94:17; Ps 129:1) 

2 if it had not been the LORD who was on our side when people rose up against us, 

3 then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their anger was kindled against us; (Ps 56:1) 

4 then the flood would have swept us away, the torrent would have gone over us; (Job 22:11; Ps 32:6; Ps 69:1; Ps 69:2; Isa 8:8) 

5 then over us would have gone the raging waters. 

6 Blessed be the LORD, who has not given us as prey to their teeth! 

7 We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped! (Ps 91:3) 

8 Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth. (Ps 121:2)

Der Helfer in der Not

1 Von David, ein Wallfahrtslied. Wäre der HERR nicht bei uns – so sage Israel –, 

2 wäre der HERR nicht bei uns, wenn Menschen wider uns aufstehen, 

3 so verschlängen sie uns lebendig, wenn ihr Zorn über uns entbrennt; 

4 so ersäufte uns Wasser, Ströme gingen über unsre Seele, (Ps 42:8; Ps 69:16) 

5 es gingen Wasser allzu hoch über unsre Seele. 

6 Gelobt sei der HERR, dass er uns nicht gibt zum Raub in ihre Zähne! 

7 Unsre Seele ist entronnen wie ein Vogel / dem Netze des Vogelfängers; das Netz ist zerrissen, und wir sind frei. 

8 Unsre Hilfe steht im Namen des HERRN, der Himmel und Erde gemacht hat.

Il Signore protegge e libera i suoi fedeli

1 Canto dei pellegrinaggi. Di Davide. Se il Signore non fosse stato in nostro favore, – lo dica pure Israele – 

2 se il Signore non fosse stato in nostro favore, quando gli uomini ci assalirono, 

3 essi ci avrebbero inghiottiti vivi, talmente erano furiosi contro di noi. 

4 Allora le acque ci avrebbero sommersi, il torrente sarebbe passato sull’anima nostra; 

5 allora sarebbero passate sull’anima nostra le acque tempestose. 

6 Benedetto sia il Signore che non ci ha abbandonati in preda ai loro denti! 

7 L’anima nostra è scampata come un uccello dal laccio dei cacciatori: il laccio è stato spezzato e noi siamo scampati. 

8 Il nostro aiuto è nel nome del Signore, che ha fatto il cielo e la terra.
