1And again Jesus spoke to them in parables, saying, (Mt 13:34)2“The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son, (Lu 14:16; Re 19:7)3and sent his servants[1] to call those who were invited to the wedding feast, but they would not come. (Es 6:14; Pr 9:3; Pr 9:5)4Again he sent other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves have been slaughtered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding feast.”’ (Pr 9:2; Mt 21:36; Lu 11:38; Joh 21:12; Joh 21:15)5But they paid no attention and went off, one to his farm, another to his business, (Heb 2:3)6while the rest seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them. Paying Taxes to Caesar
15Then the Pharisees went and plotted how to entangle him in his words. (Mr 12:13; Lu 11:54; Lu 20:20)16And they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are true and teach the way of God truthfully, and you do not care about anyone’s opinion, for you are not swayed by appearances.[2] (Mr 2:18; Mr 3:6; Mr 8:15; Joh 3:2; Ac 10:34; Ac 13:10; Ac 18:26)17Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” (Mt 17:25; Lu 2:1; Lu 3:1)18But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, “Why put me to the test, you hypocrites? (Joh 8:6)19Show me the coin for the tax.” And they brought him a denarius.[3]20And Jesus said to them, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?”21They said, “Caesar’s.” Then he said to them, “Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” (Ro 13:7)22When they heard it, they marveled. Sadducees Ask About the Resurrection
23The same day Sadducees came to him, who say that there is no resurrection, and they asked him a question, (Mt 3:7; Mt 16:1; Mt 22:34; Ac 4:1; Ac 4:2; Ac 5:17; Ac 23:6; Ac 23:8)24saying, “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies having no children, his brother must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother.’ (De 25:5)25Now there were seven brothers among us. The first married and died, and having no offspring left his wife to his brother.26So too the second and third, down to the seventh.27After them all, the woman died.28In the resurrection, therefore, of the seven, whose wife will she be? For they all had her.”29But Jesus answered them, “You are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God. (Joh 20:9; 1Co 6:14)30For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. (Mt 24:38; Lu 17:27)31And as for the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was said to you by God: (Mt 21:16)32‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? The Great Commandment
34But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. (Mt 22:23; Mr 12:28)35And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. (Mt 22:18; Lu 7:30; Lu 10:25)36“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?”37And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. (De 6:5; Lu 10:27)38This is the great and first commandment.39And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. Whose Son Is the Christ?
41Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question, (Mt 22:34; Mr 12:35; Lu 20:41)42saying, “What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?” They said to him, “The son of David.” (Mt 1:1; Mt 1:17)43He said to them, “How is it then that David, in the Spirit, calls him Lord, saying, (2Sa 23:2; Re 1:10; Re 4:2)44“‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand, until I put your enemies under your feet”’? 1Jésus, prenant la parole, leur parla de nouveau en parabole, et il dit:2Le royaume des cieux est semblable à un roi qui fit des noces pour son fils.3Il envoya ses serviteurs appeler ceux qui étaient invités aux noces; mais ils ne voulurent pas venir.4Il envoya encore d'autres serviteurs, en disant: Dites aux conviés: Voici, j'ai préparé mon festin; mes boeufs et mes bêtes grasses sont tués, tout est prêt, venez aux noces.5Mais, sans s'inquiéter de l'invitation, ils s'en allèrent, celui-ci à son champ, celui-là à son trafic;6et les autres se saisirent des serviteurs, les outragèrent et les tuèrent.7Le roi fut irrité; il envoya ses troupes, fit périr ces meurtriers, et brûla leur ville.8Alors il dit à ses serviteurs: Les noces sont prêtes; mais les conviés n'en étaient pas dignes.9Allez donc dans les carrefours, et appelez aux noces tous ceux que vous trouverez.10Ces serviteurs allèrent dans les chemins, rassemblèrent tous ceux qu'ils trouvèrent, méchants et bons, et la salle des noces fut pleine de convives.11Le roi entra pour voir ceux qui étaient à table, et il aperçut là un homme qui n'avait pas revêtu un habit de noces.12Il lui dit: Mon ami, comment es-tu entré ici sans avoir un habit de noces? Dieu n'est pas Dieu des morts, mais des vivants.33La foule, qui écoutait, fut frappée de l'enseignement de Jésus.34Les pharisiens, ayant appris qu'il avait réduit au silence les sadducéens, se rassemblèrent,35et l'un d'eux, docteur de la loi, lui fit cette question, pour l'éprouver:36Maître, quel est le plus grand commandement de la loi?37Jésus lui répondit: Tu aimeras le Seigneur, ton Dieu, de tout ton coeur, de toute ton âme, et de toute ta pensée.38C'est le premier et le plus grand commandement.39Et voici le second, qui lui est semblable: Tu aimeras ton prochain comme toi-même.40De ces deux commandements dépendent toute la loi et les prophètes.41Comme les pharisiens étaient assemblés, Jésus les interrogea,42en disant: Que pensez-vous du Christ? De qui est-il fils? Ils lui répondirent: De David.43Et Jésus leur dit: Comment donc David, animé par l'Esprit, l'appelle-t-il Seigneur, lorsqu'il dit:44Le Seigneur a dit à mon Seigneur: Assieds-toi à ma droite, Jusqu'à ce que je fasse de tes ennemis ton marchepied?45Si donc David l'appelle Seigneur, comment est-il son fils?46Nul ne put lui répondre un mot. Et, depuis ce jour, personne n'osa plus lui proposer des questions.
