And after his father died, God removed him from there into this land in which you are now living. (Ex 2:3)22And Moses was instructed in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and he was mighty in his words and deeds. (1Ki 4:30; Isa 19:11; Da 1:4; Da 1:17; Lu 24:19)23“When he was forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brothers, the children of Israel. (Ex 2:11; Ex 2:12)24And seeing one of them being wronged, he defended the oppressed man and avenged him by striking down the Egyptian.25He supposed that his brothers would understand that God was giving them salvation by his hand, but they did not understand.26And on the following day he appeared to them as they were quarreling and tried to reconcile them, saying, ‘Men, you are brothers. Why do you wrong each other?’ (Ex 2:13; Ex 2:14)27But the man who was wronging his neighbor thrust him aside, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge over us? (Lu 12:14; Ac 7:35)28Do you want to kill me as you killed the Egyptian yesterday?’29At this retort Moses fled and became an exile in the land of Midian, where he became the father of two sons. (Ex 2:15; Ex 2:22; Ex 18:3; Ex 18:4)30“Now when forty years had passed, an angel appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, in a flame of fire in a bush. (Ex 3:1; Ex 3:2)31When Moses saw it, he was amazed at the sight, and as he drew near to look, there came the voice of the Lord:32‘I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham and of Isaac and of Jacob.’ And Moses trembled and did not dare to look. (Ex 3:6)33Then the Lord said to him, ‘Take off the sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground. (Ex 3:5; Jos 5:15)34I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt, and have heard their groaning, and I have come down to deliver them. He received living oracles to give to us. (Ex 19:3; Ex 19:17; Ex 19:18; De 5:27; De 5:31; De 32:47; De 33:4; Isa 63:9; Joh 1:17; Ro 3:2; Heb 5:12; 1Pe 4:11)39Our fathers refused to obey him, but thrust him aside, and in their hearts they turned to Egypt, (Ex 16:3; Nu 11:4; Nu 11:5; Nu 14:3; Nu 14:4; Eze 20:8; Eze 20:24)40saying to Aaron, ‘Make for us gods who will go before us. As for this Moses who led us out from the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.’ (Ex 32:1; Ex 32:23)41And they made a calf in those days, and offered a sacrifice to the idol and were rejoicing in the works of their hands. (Ex 32:4; Ex 32:35; De 9:16; Ps 106:19; Isa 2:8; Jer 1:16; Jer 25:6; Jer 25:7; Am 6:13)42But God turned away and gave them over to worship the host of heaven, as it is written in the book of the prophets: “‘Did you bring to me slain beasts and sacrifices, during the forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel? (De 4:19; Jos 24:20; 2Ki 17:16; 2Ki 21:3; 2Ki 23:5; Ps 81:12; Isa 63:10; Jer 19:13; Eze 20:39; Am 5:25; Zep 1:5; Ac 7:36; Ro 1:28)43You took up the tent of Moloch and the star of your god Rephan, the images that you made to worship; and I will send you into exile beyond Babylon.’ (1Ki 11:7)44“Our fathers had the tent of witness in the wilderness, just as he who spoke to Moses directed him to make it, according to the pattern that he had seen. (Ex 25:40; Ex 38:21; Re 15:5)45Our fathers in turn brought it in with Joshua when they dispossessed the nations that God drove out before our fathers. So it was until the days of David, (Nu 32:5; De 32:49; Jos 3:10; Jos 3:14; Jos 23:9; Jos 24:18; 2Sa 7:1; 2Ch 20:7; Ac 13:19)46who found favor in the sight of God and asked to find a dwelling place for the God of Jacob.[1] (Ge 49:24; 1Sa 16:1; 1Ki 8:17; 1Ch 22:7; Ps 89:19; Ps 132:5; Isa 49:26; Ac 13:22)47But it was Solomon who built a house for him. (2Sa 7:13; 1Ki 6:1; 1Ki 6:2; 1Ki 8:20; 2Ch 3:1)48Yet the Most High does not dwell in houses made by hands, as the prophet says, (1Ki 8:27; 2Ch 2:6; Ac 17:24)49“‘Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. What kind of house will you build for me, says the Lord, or what is the place of my rest? (Ps 11:4; Isa 66:1; Isa 66:2; Mt 5:34; Mt 5:35)50Did not my hand make all these things?’51“You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do you. (Ex 32:9; Le 26:41; De 10:16; Jer 6:10; Jer 9:26; Eze 44:7; Eze 44:9; Mal 3:7)52Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One, whom you have now betrayed and murdered, (1Ki 19:10; 2Ch 36:16; Jer 2:30; Mt 5:12; Mt 21:35; Mt 23:31; Mt 23:37; Ac 3:14; Ac 5:28)53you who received the law as delivered by angels and did not keep it.” (De 33:2; Joh 7:19; Ga 3:19; Heb 2:2)

Il fut nourri trois mois dans la maison de son père;21et, quand il eut été exposé, la fille de Pharaon le recueillit, et l'éleva comme son fils.22Moïse fut instruit dans toute la sagesse des Égyptiens, et il était puissant en paroles et en oeuvres.23Il avait quarante ans, lorsqu'il lui vint dans le coeur de visiter ses frères, les fils d'Israël.24Il en vit un qu'on outrageait, et, prenant sa défense, il vengea celui qui était maltraité, et frappa l'Égyptien.25Il pensait que ses frères comprendraient que Dieu leur accordait la délivrance par sa main; mais ils ne comprirent pas.26Le jour suivant, il parut au milieu d'eux comme ils se battaient, et il les exhorta à la paix: Hommes, dit-il, vous êtes frères; pourquoi vous maltraitez-vous l'un l'autre?27Mais celui qui maltraitait son prochain le repoussa, en disant: Qui t'a établi chef et juge sur nous?28Veux-tu me tuer, comme tu as tué hier l'Égyptien?29A cette parole, Moïse prit la fuite, et il alla séjourner dans le pays de Madian, où il engendra deux fils.30Quarante ans plus tard, un ange lui apparut, au désert de la montagne de Sinaï, dans la flamme d'un buisson en feu.31Moïse, voyant cela, fut étonné de cette apparition; et, comme il s'approchait pour examiner, la voix du Seigneur se fit entendre:32Je suis le Dieu de tes pères, le Dieu d'Abraham, d'Isaac et de Jacob. Maintenant, va, je t'enverrai en Égypte.35Ce Moïse, qu'ils avaient renié, en disant: Qui t'a établi chef et juge? c'est lui que Dieu envoya comme chef et comme libérateur avec l'aide de l'ange qui lui était apparu dans le buisson.36C'est lui qui les fit sortir d'Égypte, en opérant des prodiges et des miracles au pays d'Égypte, au sein de la mer Rouge, et au désert, pendant quarante ans.37C'est ce Moïse qui dit aux fils d'Israël: Dieu vous suscitera d'entre vos frères un prophète comme moi.38C'est lui qui, lors de l'assemblée au désert, étant avec l'ange qui lui parlait sur la montagne de Sinaï et avec nos pères, reçut des oracles vivants, pour nous les donner.39Nos pères ne voulurent pas lui obéir, ils le repoussèrent, et ils tournèrent leur coeur vers l'Égypte,40en disant à Aaron: Fais-nous des dieux qui marchent devant nous; car ce Moïse qui nous a fait sortir du pays d'Égypte, nous ne savons ce qu'il est devenu.41Et, en ces jours-là, ils firent un veau, ils offrirent un sacrifice à l'idole, et se réjouirent de l'oeuvre de leurs mains.42Alors Dieu se détourna, et les livra au culte de l'armée du ciel, selon qu'il est écrit dans le livre des prophètes: M'avez-vous offert des victimes et des sacrifices Pendant quarante ans au désert, maison d'Israël?...43Vous avez porté la tente de Moloch Et l'étoile du dieu Remphan, Ces images que vous avez faites pour les adorer! Aussi vous transporterai-je au delà de Babylone.44Nos pères avaient au désert le tabernacle du témoignage, comme l'avait ordonné celui qui dit à Moïse de le faire d'après le modèle qu'il avait vu.45Et nos pères, l'ayant reçu, l'introduisirent, sous la conduite de Josué, dans le pays qui était possédé par les nations que Dieu chassa devant eux, et il y resta jusqu'aux jours de David.46David trouva grâce devant Dieu, et demanda d'élever une demeure pour le Dieu de Jacob;47et ce fut Salomon qui lui bâtit une maison.48Mais le Très Haut n'habite pas dans ce qui est fait de main d'homme, comme dit le prophète:49Le ciel est mon trône, Et la terre mon marchepied. Quelle maison me bâtirez-vous, dit le Seigneur, Ou quel sera le lieu de mon repos?50N'est-ce pas ma main qui a fait toutes ces choses?...51Hommes au cou raide, incirconcis de coeur et d'oreilles! vous vous opposez toujours au Saint Esprit. Ce que vos pères ont été, vous l'êtes aussi.52Lequel des prophètes vos pères n'ont-ils pas persécuté? Ils ont tué ceux qui annonçaient d'avance la venue du Juste, que vous avez livré maintenant, et dont vous avez été les meurtriers,53vous qui avez reçu la loi d'après des commandements d'anges, et qui ne l'avez point gardée!...54En entendant ces paroles, ils étaient furieux dans leur coeur, et ils grinçaient des dents contre lui.55Mais Étienne, rempli du Saint Esprit, et fixant les regards vers le ciel, vit la gloire de Dieu et Jésus debout à la droite de Dieu.56Et il dit: Voici, je vois les cieux ouverts, et le Fils de l'homme debout à la droite de Dieu.57Ils poussèrent alors de grands cris, en se bouchant les oreilles, et ils se précipitèrent tous ensemble sur lui,58le traînèrent hors de la ville, et le lapidèrent. Les témoins déposèrent leurs vêtements aux pieds d'un jeune homme nommé Saul.59Et ils lapidaient Étienne, qui priait et disait: Seigneur Jésus, reçois mon esprit!60Puis, s'étant mis à genoux, il s'écria d'une voix forte: Seigneur, ne leur impute pas ce péché!
