The King of Glory

1 A Psalm of David. The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof,^[1] the world and those who dwell therein, (Ex 9:29; Ex 19:5; De 10:14; Job 41:11; Ps 50:12; Ps 89:11; 1Co 10:26)

3 Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in his holy place? (Ps 2:6; Ps 15:1) 4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully. 6 Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob.^[2] (Ps 14:5; Ps 27:8; Ps 105:4) 7 Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. (Ps 118:19; Isa 26:2; 1Co 2:8) 8 Who is this King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle! (Ex 15:3) 9 Lift up your heads, O gates! And lift them up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 10 Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory! (Mal 1:14)

1 Ein Lied Davids. Dem Herrn gehört die ganze Erde mit allem, was darauf lebt. (Ex 9:29; Ps 50:12; Ps 89:12; 1Co 10:26)

2 Er hat sie fest gegründet über dem Wasser und ihre Fundamente auf den Grund des Meeres gelegt. (Job 38:6; Ps 136:6) 3 »Wer hat Zutritt zum Berg des HERRN? Was für Menschen dürfen den heiligen Boden betreten?«^[1] (Ps 15:1) 4 »Nur Menschen, die unschuldige Hände haben und ein reines Gewissen. In ihren Herzen gibt es keine Falschheit, von ihren Lippen kommt nie ein Meineid. 5 Der HERR wird sie segnen und ihnen Hilfe senden, wie er es den Seinen zugesagt hat.^[2] 6 So sind die Menschen, die nach Gott fragen und in seine Nähe kommen dürfen. So sind die wahren Nachkommen Jakobs.«^[3] 7 »Öffnet euch weit, ihr ehrwürdigen Tore! Der König will einziehen, dem alle Macht gehört!« (Ps 47:6; Ps 68:25) 8 »Wer ist dieser mächtige König?« »Es ist der HERR, der Starke und Gewaltige! Der HERR, der Sieger in jedem Kampf! – 9 Öffnet euch weit, ihr ehrwürdigen Tore! Der König will einziehen, dem alle Macht gehört!« 10 »Wer ist dieser mächtige König?« »Es ist der Herr über Himmel und Erde!^[4] Er ist der höchste König, ihm gehört alle Macht!«
