1And the people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the Lord after Ehud died. (Jud 2:19)2And the Lord sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor. The commander of his army was Sisera, who lived in Harosheth-hagoyim. (Jos 11:1; Jos 11:10; Jud 2:14; Jud 4:13; Jud 4:16; 1Sa 12:9; Ps 83:9)3Then the people of Israel cried out to the Lord for help, for he had 900 chariots of iron and he oppressed the people of Israel cruelly for twenty years. (Jud 1:19; Jud 3:9; Jud 4:13)4Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, was judging Israel at that time.5She used to sit under the palm of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim, and the people of Israel came up to her for judgment. (Jos 24:33)6She sent and summoned Barak the son of Abinoam from Kedesh-naphtali and said to him, “Has not the Lord, the God of Israel, commanded you, ‘Go, gather your men at Mount Tabor, taking 10,000 from the people of Naphtali and the people of Zebulun. (Jos 19:37; Jud 8:18; Heb 11:32)7And I will draw out Sisera, the general of Jabin’s army, to meet you by the river Kishon with his chariots and his troops, and I will give him into your hand’?” (Jud 3:28; Jud 4:13; Jud 5:21; 1Ki 18:40; Ps 83:9)8Barak said to her, “If you will go with me, I will go, but if you will not go with me, I will not go.”9And she said, “I will surely go with you. Nevertheless, the road on which you are going will not lead to your glory, for the Lord will sell Sisera into the hand of a woman.” Then Deborah arose and went with Barak to Kedesh. (Jud 2:14)10And Barak called out Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh. And 10,000 men went up at his heels, and Deborah went up with him. (Jud 5:18)11Now Heber the Kenite had separated from the Kenites, the descendants of Hobab the father-in-law of Moses, and had pitched his tent as far away as the oak in Zaanannim, which is near Kedesh. (Nu 10:29; Jos 19:33; Jud 1:16)12When Sisera was told that Barak the son of Abinoam had gone up to Mount Tabor,13Sisera called out all his chariots, 900 chariots of iron, and all the men who were with him, from Harosheth-hagoyim to the river Kishon. (Jud 4:3)14And Deborah said to Barak, “Up! For this is the day in which the Lord has given Sisera into your hand. Does not the Lord go out before you?” So Barak went down from Mount Tabor with 10,000 men following him. (De 9:3; Jud 4:7; 2Sa 5:24; Ps 68:7; Isa 52:12)15And the Lord routed Sisera and all his chariots and all his army before Barak by the edge of the sword. And Sisera got down from his chariot and fled away on foot. (Jos 10:10; Jud 4:23; Ps 83:9)16And Barak pursued the chariots and the army to Harosheth-hagoyim, and all the army of Sisera fell by the edge of the sword; not a man was left.17But Sisera fled away on foot to the tent of Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite, for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.18And Jael came out to meet Sisera and said to him, “Turn aside, my lord; turn aside to me; do not be afraid.” So he turned aside to her into the tent, and she covered him with a rug.19And he said to her, “Please give me a little water to drink, for I am thirsty.” So she opened a skin of milk and gave him a drink and covered him. (Jud 5:25)20And he said to her, “Stand at the opening of the tent, and if any man comes and asks you, ‘Is anyone here?’ say, ‘No.’”21But Jael the wife of Heber took a tent peg, and took a hammer in her hand. Then she went softly to him and drove the peg into his temple until it went down into the ground while he was lying fast asleep from weariness. So he died.22And behold, as Barak was pursuing Sisera, Jael went out to meet him and said to him, “Come, and I will show you the man whom you are seeking.” So he went in to her tent, and there lay Sisera dead, with the tent peg in his temple.23So on that day God subdued Jabin the king of Canaan before the people of Israel. (Jud 4:15)24And the hand of the people of Israel pressed harder and harder against Jabin the king of Canaan, until they destroyed Jabin king of Canaan.

Dessen Heerführer Sisera hatte sein Hauptquartier in Haroschet-Gojim. (Jos 11:1)3Jabin besaß 900 eiserne Streitwagen. Zwanzig Jahre lang unterdrückte er die Israeliten hart. Deshalb riefen sie zum HERRN um Hilfe. (Jos 17:16)4Damals hatte eine Prophetin namens Debora, die Frau Lappidots, das Richteramt in Israel.5Sie saß unter der ›Deborapalme‹ zwischen Rama und Bet-El im Bergland von Efraïm und entschied Rechtsfälle, die die Leute von Israel ihr vorlegten.6Eines Tages bestellte sie Barak zu sich, den Sohn Abinoams aus Kedesch im Gebiet des Stammes Naftali. Sie sagte zu ihm: »Der HERR, der Gott Israels, gibt dir den Auftrag: ›Nimm 10000 Mann aus den Stämmen Naftali und Sebulon und zieh mit ihnen auf den Berg Tabor.7Ich werde Jabins Heerführer Sisera mit seinen Streitwagen und seinem ganzen Heer an den Bach Kischon locken und dort in deine Hand geben.‹«8Barak sagte zu Debora: »Ich gehe nur, wenn du mitkommst! Ohne dich gehe ich nicht.«9»Gut«, erwiderte Debora, »ich komme mit. Aber der Ruhm für den Sieg wird dann nicht dir gehören. Der HERR wird Sisera in die Hand einer Frau geben!« Dann stand sie auf und ging mit ihm nach Kedesch.10Dorthin berief Barak die Männer der Stämme Naftali und Sebulon. Zehntausend folgten ihm auf den Berg Tabor und Debora begleitete sie.11Der Keniter Heber hatte sich von seinen Stammesbrüdern, den Nachkommen von Moses Schwiegervater Hobab, getrennt und war nach und nach bis zu der Eiche bei Zaanannim in der Nähe von Kedesch gekommen. Dort hatte er sein Zelt aufgeschlagen. (Jud 1:16)12Da erhielt Sisera die Meldung: »Barak, der Sohn Abinoams, ist mit einem Heer auf den Berg Tabor gezogen!«13Sofort rief er seine 900 Streitwagen und alle seine Kriegsleute zusammen und zog von Haroschet-Gojim an den Bach Kischon.14Als er dort ankam, sagte Debora zu Barak: »Schlag los! Heute hat der HERR dir Sisera und sein ganzes Heer ausgeliefert. Ich sehe, wie der HERR selbst vor dir her in die Schlacht zieht!« Da stürmte Barak vom Berg Tabor ins Tal hinunter und die zehntausend folgten ihm.15Als sie mit gezücktem Schwert auf die Kanaaniter zukamen, versetzte der HERR den feindlichen Heerführer und sein ganzes Heer in Angst und Schrecken. Sisera sprang von seinem Wagen und floh zu Fuß. (Ex 23:27)16Barak verfolgte die Streitwagen Siseras und seine Soldaten bis nach Haroschet-Gojim. Das ganze Heer wurde vernichtet; nicht ein Mann entkam.
Der feindliche Heerführer findet den Tod
17Sisera flüchtete inzwischen zum Zelt Jaëls, der Frau des Keniters Heber; denn die Sippe Heber unterhielt freundschaftliche Beziehungen zu Jabin.18Jaël ging Sisera entgegen und sagte: »Komm herein, mein Herr, kehre bei mir ein! Hab keine Angst!« Er trat in ihr Zelt und sie führte ihn hinter den Vorhang.19»Gib mir ein wenig Wasser«, bat er, »ich bin so durstig.« Sie holte den Schlauch mit Milch, gab ihm zu trinken und zog den Vorhang vor.20»Stell dich an den Eingang des Zeltes«, sagte er. »Wenn jemand kommt und dich fragt, ob einer hier ist, dann antworte: ›Nein, niemand!‹«21Jaël aber nahm einen Zeltpflock und einen Hammer und trat leise an Sisera heran. Er lag auf der Seite und war vor Erschöpfung in tiefen Schlaf gefallen. Sie trieb den Pflock durch beide Schläfen hindurch bis in die Erde.22Da kam auch schon Barak, der hinter Sisera her war. Jaël ging ihm entgegen und sagte: »Komm mit, ich will dir den Mann zeigen, den du suchst!« Barak ging mit ihr ins Zelt und fand Sisera tot auf der Erde liegen, den Kopf mit dem Pflock durchbohrt.23So brachte Gott dem Kanaaniterkönig Jabin eine schwere Niederlage bei und zwang ihn vor den Israeliten in die Knie.24In der Folgezeit setzten sie ihm immer härter zu, bis sie ihn völlig vernichtet hatten.
