1 To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments. A Psalm of Asaph. A Song. In Judah God is known; his name is great in Israel. (Ps 4:1; Ps 48:3; Ps 50:1) 2 His abode has been established in Salem, his dwelling place in Zion. (Ge 14:18; Ps 9:11; Ps 27:5; Ps 74:2; La 2:6) 3 There he broke the flashing arrows, the shield, the sword, and the weapons of war. (Ps 46:9; Eze 39:9) 4 Glorious are you, more majestic than the mountains full of prey. (Isa 14:25; Eze 39:4; Na 2:13) 5 The stouthearted were stripped of their spoil; they sank into sleep; all the men of war were unable to use their hands. (2Ki 19:35; Ps 13:3; Isa 46:12; Jer 51:39; Na 3:18) 6 At your rebuke, O God of Jacob, both rider and horse lay stunned. (Ex 15:1; Ex 15:21) 7 But you, you are to be feared! Who can stand before you when once your anger is roused? (Ps 47:2; Ps 130:3) 8 From the heavens you uttered judgment; the earth feared and was still, (2Ch 20:29; Hab 2:20) 9 when God arose to establish judgment, to save all the humble of the earth. (Ps 9:7) 10 Surely the wrath of man shall praise you; the remnant[1] of wrath you will put on like a belt. (Ex 9:16) 11 Make your vows to the Lord your God and perform them; let all around him bring gifts to him who is to be feared, (Ge 31:42; Ge 31:53; Ps 50:14; Ps 68:29; Ps 89:7; Isa 8:13) 12 who cuts off the spirit of princes, who is to be feared by the kings of the earth. (Ps 47:2; Isa 18:5)

1 Für den Chormeister. Mit Saitenspiel. Ein Psalm Asafs. Ein Lied. 2 Gott gab sich zu erkennen in Juda, sein Name ist groß in Israel. 3 Sein Zelt erstand in Salem, seine Wohnung auf dem Zion. (Ps 87:2; Ps 132:13) 4 Dort zerbrach er die blitzenden Pfeile des Bogens, Schild und Schwert, die Waffen des Krieges. [Sela] (Ps 46:10; Jdt 9:7) 5 Von Licht umstrahlt erscheinst du, herrlich von den Bergen des Raubes her.[1] 6 Zur Beute wurden die beherzten Krieger, / sie sanken hin in den Schlaf, allen Helden versagten die Hände. (2Ki 19:35; Jer 51:39) 7 Vor deinem Drohen, Gott Jakobs, erstarrten Wagen und Rosse. 8 Du, ja Furcht erregend bist du. / Wer kann bestehen vor deinem Zorn seit jeher? (De 7:21; Na 1:6) 9 Vom Himmel her ließest du das Urteil hören, die Erde geriet in Furcht und verstummte, 10 da Gott sich erhob zum Gericht, um zu retten alle Gebeugten der Erde. [Sela.] 11 Selbst der Grimm des Menschen muss dir danken, du gürtest dich mit denen, die dem Grimm entkommen sind. 12 Macht Gelübde und erfüllt sie dem HERRN, eurem Gott! Ihr alle ringsum, bringt Gaben dem, der Furcht erregt. (Ps 66:13) 13 Er bricht den Hochmut der Fürsten, Furcht erregend ist er für die Könige der Erde.

1 Au chef de chœur. Un psaume d’Asaph[1]. A chanter avec accompagnement d’instruments à cordes. (Ps 50:1) 2 Dieu s’est fait connaître en Juda, son nom est grand en Israël. 3 Sa résidence est à Salem[2], et sa demeure est en Sion. (Ge 14:18) 4 C’est là qu’il a brisé ╵les flèches fulgurantes, les boucliers, les glaives, ╵toutes armes de guerre. Pause 5 Tu es resplendissant, ╵plus éclatant que les monts éternels[3]. 6 Tous les vaillants guerriers ╵ont été dépouillés, ils se sont endormis ╵de leur dernier sommeil. Tous ces valeureux hommes ╵n’ont pas su retrouver ╵la vigueur de leurs mains. 7 Dieu de Jacob, à ta menace les chars et les chevaux ╵se sont figés sur place. 8 Que tu es redoutable! Qui tiendrait devant toi ╵quand ta colère éclate? 9 Du ciel, tu fais entendre ton verdict, et la terre, effrayée, ╵se tient dans le silence 10 quand toi, ô Dieu, tu interviens ╵pour exercer le jugement et pour apporter le salut ╵à tous les humbles de la terre. Pause 11 Car même la fureur des hommes ╵tournera à ta gloire et tu t’attacheras ╵les rescapés de ta colère[4]. 12 Vous tous qui entourez ╵l’Eternel votre Dieu, faites des vœux ╵et accomplissez-les! Apportez vos présents ╵à ce Dieu redoutable. 13 Il brise l’esprit résolu des princes, il se rend redoutable ╵pour les rois de la terre.
