1The LORD spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho, saying, (Nu 22:1)2“Command the people of Israel to give to the Levites some of the inheritance of their possession as cities for them to dwell in. And you shall give to the Levites pasturelands around the cities. (Jos 14:3; Jos 14:4; Jos 21:2; Eze 45:1; Eze 48:8)3The cities shall be theirs to dwell in, and their pasturelands shall be for their cattle and for their livestock and for all their beasts.4The pasturelands of the cities, which you shall give to the Levites, shall reach from the wall of the city outward a thousand cubits[1] all around.5And you shall measure, outside the city, on the east side two thousand cubits, and on the south side two thousand cubits, and on the west side two thousand cubits, and on the north side two thousand cubits, the city being in the middle. This shall belong to them as pastureland for their cities.6“The cities that you give to the Levites shall be the six cities of refuge, where you shall permit the manslayer to flee, and in addition to them you shall give forty-two cities. (Nu 35:13; De 4:41; De 4:42; Jos 20:2; Jos 20:7; Jos 20:8; Jos 21:3; Jos 21:13; Jos 21:21; Jos 21:27; Jos 21:32; Jos 21:36; Jos 21:38)7All the cities that you give to the Levites shall be forty-eight, with their pasturelands. (Jos 21:41)8And as for the cities that you shall give from the possession of the people of Israel, from the larger tribes you shall take many, and from the smaller tribes you shall take few; each, in proportion to the inheritance that it inherits, shall give of its cities to the Levites.” (Nu 26:54; Nu 33:54; Jos 21:3)
Cities of Refuge
9And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,10“Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, When you cross the Jordan into the land of Canaan, (De 19:2; Jos 20:2)11then you shall select cities to be cities of refuge for you, that the manslayer who kills any person without intent may flee there. (Ex 21:13)12The cities shall be for you a refuge from the avenger, that the manslayer may not die until he stands before the congregation for judgment.13And the cities that you give shall be your six cities of refuge. (Nu 6:1)14You shall give three cities beyond the Jordan, and three cities in the land of Canaan, to be cities of refuge. (De 4:41; Jos 20:8)15These six cities shall be for refuge for the people of Israel, and for the stranger and for the sojourner among them, that anyone who kills any person without intent may flee there. (Nu 15:16)16“But if he struck him down with an iron object, so that he died, he is a murderer. The murderer shall be put to death. (Ex 21:12; Ex 21:14; Le 24:17; De 19:11; De 19:12)17And if he struck him down with a stone tool that could cause death, and he died, he is a murderer. The murderer shall be put to death.18Or if he struck him down with a wooden tool that could cause death, and he died, he is a murderer. The murderer shall be put to death.19The avenger of blood shall himself put the murderer to death; when he meets him, he shall put him to death. (De 19:6; De 19:12; Jos 20:3; Jos 20:5)20And if he pushed him out of hatred or hurled something at him, lying in wait, so that he died, (Ex 21:14; De 19:11)21or in enmity struck him down with his hand, so that he died, then he who struck the blow shall be put to death. He is a murderer. The avenger of blood shall put the murderer to death when he meets him. (Nu 19:1)22“But if he pushed him suddenly without enmity, or hurled anything on him without lying in wait (Ex 21:13)23or used a stone that could cause death, and without seeing him dropped it on him, so that he died, though he was not his enemy and did not seek his harm,24then the congregation shall judge between the manslayer and the avenger of blood, in accordance with these rules. (Nu 19:1; Nu 35:12; Jos 20:6)25And the congregation shall rescue the manslayer from the hand of the avenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to his city of refuge to which he had fled, and he shall live in it until the death of the high priest who was anointed with the holy oil. (Ex 29:7; Le 4:3; Le 21:10; Jos 20:6)26But if the manslayer shall at any time go beyond the boundaries of his city of refuge to which he fled,27and the avenger of blood finds him outside the boundaries of his city of refuge, and the avenger of blood kills the manslayer, he shall not be guilty of blood. (Nu 19:1)28For he must remain in his city of refuge until the death of the high priest, but after the death of the high priest the manslayer may return to the land of his possession. (Nu 25:1)29And these things shall be for a statute and rule for you throughout your generations in all your dwelling places. (Nu 27:11)30“If anyone kills a person, the murderer shall be put to death on the evidence of witnesses. But no person shall be put to death on the testimony of one witness. (De 17:6; De 19:15; Mt 18:16; Joh 8:17; 2Co 13:1; 1Ti 5:19; Heb 10:28)31Moreover, you shall accept no ransom for the life of a murderer, who is guilty of death, but he shall be put to death.32And you shall accept no ransom for him who has fled to his city of refuge, that he may return to dwell in the land before the death of the high priest.33You shall not pollute the land in which you live, for blood pollutes the land, and no atonement can be made for the land for the blood that is shed in it, except by the blood of the one who shed it. (Ge 9:6; Ps 106:38; Jer 3:1; Jer 3:2; Jer 3:9; Mic 4:11)34You shall not defile the land in which you live, in the midst of which I dwell, for I the LORD dwell in the midst of the people of Israel.” (Ex 29:45; Le 18:25; De 21:23)
1Habló YHVH a Moisés en las llanuras de Moab, junto al Jordán, frente a Jericó, diciendo:2Ordena a los hijos de Israel que de su herencia en propiedad, den a los levitas ciudades en que puedan habitar, y entregaréis también a los levitas los pastizales de las ciudades en torno a ellas.3Las ciudades les servirán de morada y los pastizales serán para su ganado, para sus animales domésticos y para todas sus bestias.4Los pastizales de las ciudades que daréis a los levitas desde el muro de la ciudad hacia fuera, serán de mil codos en derredor.5Mediréis dos mil codos fuera de la ciudad por el límite oriental, dos mil codos por el límite sur, dos mil codos por el límite occidental y dos mil codos por la parte norte, quedando la ciudad en el centro. Esto será de ellos como pastizales para las ciudades.6De las ciudades que habéis de dar a los levitas, seis ciudades serán de refugio, las cuales daréis para que se refugie allá el homicida, y, además de ellas, daréis cuarenta y dos ciudades.7Todas las ciudades que daréis a los levitas serán cuarenta y ocho, junto con sus pastizales.8Las ciudades que daréis provendrán de la propiedad de los hijos de Israel. Del que tiene mucho tomaréis mucho, y del que tiene poco tomaréis poco. Cada uno cederá de sus ciudades para los levitas en proporción de la propiedad que haya heredado.9Luego YHVH habló a Moisés, diciendo:10Habla a los hijos de Israel y diles: Cuando hayáis pasado el Jordán hacia la tierra de Canaán,11os escogeréis ciudades que serán para vosotros ciudades de asilo, adonde pueda refugiarse el homicida que mate a alguno sin intención.12Tales ciudades os servirán de refugio frente al vengador, y así el homicida no morirá antes de presentarse a juicio ante la asamblea.13Así pues, de las ciudades que daréis, tendréis seis ciudades de refugio.14Estableceréis tres ciudades a este lado del Jordán, y otras tres ciudades en la tierra de Canaán, las cuales serán ciudades de refugio.15Estas seis ciudades serán para refugio a los hijos de Israel, al extranjero y al que resida entre vosotros, para que allá se refugie todo el que mate a otro sin intención.16Pero si lo golpea con instrumento de hierro y muere, es asesino. El asesino será muerto irremisiblemente.17Si lo golpea piedra en mano, con que pueda matar, y muere, es un asesino. El asesino será muerto irremisiblemente.18Si lo golpea con un instrumento de madera en la mano, que pueda matar, y muere, es un asesino. El asesino será muerto irremisiblemente.19El vengador de la sangre, él mismo matará al asesino. En el momento en que lo encuentre, lo matará.20Y si por odio lo empuja, o lanza algo contra él deliberadamente, y muere,21o si por enemistad lo golpea con el puño y muere, el agresor será muerto sin remisión. Es asesino, y el vengador de la sangre matará al asesino cuando lo encuentre.22Pero si casualmente, sin enemistad, lo empuja o lanza sobre él cualquier objeto sin premeditación,23o bien sin verlo hace caer sobre él alguna piedra, por la que pueda causar la muerte, y muere, no siendo su enemigo ni procurando su mal,24entonces la asamblea juzgará entre el que ha herido y el vengador de la sangre según estas leyes.25Así la asamblea librará al homicida de la mano del vengador de la sangre, y la asamblea hará que vuelva a su ciudad de refugio, donde se había refugiado, y allí habitará hasta la muerte del sumo sacerdote, a quien se ungió con el aceite del Santuario.26Pero si el homicida sale fuera del límite de su ciudad de refugio, a donde se había refugiado,27y el vengador de la sangre lo encuentra fuera del límite de su ciudad de refugio, y el vengador de la sangre mata al homicida, no será culpable de sangre,28pues aquél debió habitar en su ciudad de refugio hasta que hubiera muerto el sumo sacerdote. Sólo después de la muerte del sumo sacerdote, el homicida podrá regresar a la tierra de su propiedad.29Estas cosas os serán por estatuto de juicio en vuestras generaciones venideras, en todos vuestros asentamientos.30Cualquiera que mate a alguno, por el testimonio de testigos se hará morir al homicida, pero el testimonio de un solo testigo no bastará para que una persona muera.31No aceptaréis rescate por la vida del homicida, porque es culpable de muerte. Será muerto irremisiblemente.32No aceptaréis rescate del que habiéndose asilado en su ciudad de refugio, vuelve para habitar en su tierra antes de la muerte del sacerdote.33No profanaréis la tierra en la cual estáis, porque la sangre profana la tierra, y la tierra no será expiada de la sangre que fue derramada en ella, excepto por la sangre del que la derramó.34No contaminarás la tierra donde vosotros habitáis, en medio de la cual Yo habito, porque Yo, YHVH, habito en medio de los hijos de Israel.
