1 A wise son hears his father’s instruction, but a scoffer does not listen to rebuke. 4 The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied. 1 El hijo sabio toma consejo del padre, Pero el burlador no escucha la reprensión. 2 Del fruto de su boca el hombre comerá el bien, Pero el alma de los traidores se hartará de violencia. 3 El que guarda su boca guarda su alma, Pero el que suelta sus labios tendrá calamidad. 4 El alma del perezoso desea, y nada alcanza, Pero el alma del diligente será gratificada. 5 El justo aborrece la palabra de mentira, Pero el malvado se hace odioso e infame. 6 La justicia guarda al de perfecto camino, Pero la impiedad trastornará al pecador. 7 Hay quienes se enriquecen, y nada tienen, Y hay quienes se hacen pobres, y tienen grandes riquezas. 8 La redención de la vida del hombre puede ser su riqueza, Pero el pobre no escucha censuras. 9 La luz de los justos difunde alegría, Pero la lámpara de los impíos será apagada. 10 Con la soberbia sólo se provoca contienda, Pero con los bien aconsejados está la sabiduría. 11 Fortuna sin esfuerzo se desvanece, Pero el que recoge con mano laboriosa, la aumenta. 12 La esperanza que tarda es tormento del corazón, Pero árbol de vida es el deseo cumplido. 13 El que menosprecia la Palabra, perecerá por ello, Pero el que teme el mandamiento será recompensado. 14 La enseñanza del sabio es manantial de vida, Que aparta de los lazos de la Muerte. 15 El buen entendimiento confiere gracia, Pero el camino de los transgresores va a la ruina. 16 El sagaz actúa con prudencia, Pero el necio hace manifiesta su necedad. 17 El mensajero malvado caerá en desgracia, Pero el enviado fiel es medicina. 18 Miseria y oprobio para quien rechaza la corrección, Pero el que guarda el consejo, será honrado. 19 El deseo cumplido deleita el alma, Apartarse del mal es abominación a los necios. 20 Quien con sabios anda, sabio será, Pero el que se allega a necios, se echa a perder. 21 La desgracia persigue a los pecadores, A los justos, la paz y el bien. 22 La herencia del bueno queda en su familia, Pero la riqueza del pecador está reservada al justo. 23 El barbecho de los pobres abunda en alimento, Pero se puede perder por falta de justicia. 24 El que escatima el castigo aborrece a su hijo, El que lo ama, temprano lo corrige. 25 El justo come y sacia su apetito, Pero el vientre de los impíos padece escasez.
