1Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. (Lu 24:20; Joh 7:50; Joh 19:39)2This man came to Jesus[1] by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.” (Mt 22:16; Joh 1:38; Joh 5:36; Joh 9:29; Joh 9:33; Joh 12:42; Ac 2:22; Ac 10:38)3Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again[2] he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (Joh 1:13; Joh 3:36; 2Co 5:17; Ga 6:15; 1Pe 1:3; 1Pe 1:23)4Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”5Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. from Sociedad Bíblica Iberoamericana1Había un hombre de los fariseos que se llamaba Nicodemo, un magistrado de los judíos.2Éste vino a Él de noche, y le dijo: Rabbí, sabemos que has venido de Dios como maestro; porque nadie puede hacer estas señales que Tú haces, si no está Dios con Él.3Respondió Jesús, y le dijo: De cierto, de cierto te digo: El que no nazca de nuevo no puede ver el reino de Dios.4Le dice Nicodemo: ¿Cómo puede nacer un hombre siendo viejo? ¿Puede acaso entrar por segunda vez en el vientre de su madre y nacer?5Respondió Jesús: De cierto, de cierto te digo: El que no nazca de agua y Espíritu, no puede entrar en el reino de Dios.6Lo que ha nacido de la carne, carne es; y lo que ha nacido del Espíritu, espíritu es.7No te maravilles de que te haya dicho: Os es necesario nacer de nuevo.8El espíritu sopla donde quiere, y oyes su sonido, pero no sabes de dónde viene ni a dónde va, así es todo el que ha nacido del Espíritu.9Respondió Nicodemo y le dijo: ¿Cómo puede hacerse esto?10Respondió Jesús y le dijo: ¿Eres tú maestro de Israel, y no conoces esto?11De cierto, de cierto te digo, que lo que sabemos hablamos, y lo que hemos visto, testificamos, y no recibís nuestro testimonio.12Si os he dicho cosas terrenales y no creéis, ¿cómo creeréis si os digo las celestiales?13Porque nadie ha subido al cielo, sino el que descendió del cielo: el Hijo del Hombre.14Y como Moisés levantó la serpiente en el desierto, así es necesario que el Hijo del Hombre sea levantado,15para que todo el que cree en Él tenga vida eterna.
El alcance del amor de Dios
16Porque de tal manera amó Dios al mundo, que dio a su Hijo Unigénito, para que todo aquel que en Él cree, no se pierda, mas tenga vida eterna.17Porque Dios no envió al Hijo al mundo para juzgar al mundo, sino para que el mundo sea salvo por medio de Él.18Quien cree en Él, no es juzgado; el que no cree, ya ha sido juzgado, porque no ha creído en el nombre del Unigénito Hijo de Dios.19Y esta es la acusación: que la luz vino al mundo, y los hombres amaron más las tinieblas que la luz, pues sus obras eran malas.20Porque todo el que practica lo malo, aborrece la luz, y no viene a la luz, para que sus obras no sean expuestas.21Pero el que practica la verdad viene hacia la luz, para que sea manifiesto que sus obras son hechas en Dios.
El que viene del cielo
22Después de esto, Jesús fue con sus discípulos a la tierra de Judea, y estaba allí con ellos, y bautizaba.23También Juan estaba bautizando en Enón, cerca de Salim, pues había allí muchas aguas, y acudían, y eran bautizados,24porque Juan todavía no había sido echado en la cárcel.25Se originó entonces una discusión de los discípulos de Juan con un judío acerca de la purificación.26Y se acercaron a Juan, y le dijeron: Rabbí, el que estaba contigo al otro lado del Jordán, de quien tú has dado testimonio, he aquí que bautiza y todos acuden a Él.27Respondió Juan y dijo: No puede un hombre recibir nada si no le ha sido dado del cielo.28Vosotros mismos me sois testigos de que dije: Yo no soy el Mesías, sino que he sido enviado delante de Él.29El que tiene la esposa es el esposo, pero el amigo del esposo, que ha estado a su lado y lo oye, se alegra en gran manera por la voz del esposo. Así pues, este gozo mío ha sido cumplido.30Él debe crecer, y yo menguar.31El que viene de arriba, está sobre todos. El que es de la tierra, de la tierra es y de la tierra habla. El que viene del cielo, está sobre todos;32lo que ha visto y oído, esto testifica, pero nadie recibe su testimonio.33El que recibe su testimonio ha atestiguado que Dios es veraz.34Pues el que Dios envió, habla las palabras de Dios, porque Dios no da el Espíritu por medida.35El Padre ama al Hijo, y todas las cosas ha entregado en su mano.36El que cree en el Hijo tiene vida eterna; pero el que desobedece al Hijo, no verá vida, sino que la ira de Dios permanece sobre él.
