1Run to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, look and take note! Search her squares to see if you can find a man, one who does justice and seeks truth, that I may pardon her. (Ge 18:23; 2Ch 16:9; Jer 5:7)2Though they say, “As the Lord lives,” yet they swear falsely. (Jer 7:9; Tit 1:16)3O Lord, do not your eyes look for truth? You have struck them down, but they felt no anguish; you have consumed them, but they refused to take correction. They have made their faces harder than rock; they have refused to repent. (Jer 2:30; Eze 3:8)4Then I said, “These are only the poor; they have no sense; for they do not know the way of the Lord, the justice of their God. (Jer 8:7; Mic 3:1)5I will go to the great and will speak to them, for they know the way of the Lord, the justice of their God.” But they all alike had broken the yoke; they had burst the bonds. (Ps 2:3; Ps 107:14; Jer 2:20)6Therefore a lion from the forest shall strike them down; a wolf from the desert shall devastate them. A leopard is watching their cities; everyone who goes out of them shall be torn in pieces, because their transgressions are many, their apostasies are great. (Jer 2:19; Jer 4:7; Ho 13:7; Hab 1:8; Zep 3:3)7“How can I pardon you? Your children have forsaken me and have sworn by those who are no gods. When I fed them to the full, they committed adultery and trooped to the houses of whores. (De 32:15; De 32:21; Jos 23:7; 2Ch 13:9; Jer 5:1; Jer 9:2; Jer 23:10; Mic 5:1; Ga 4:8)8They were well-fed, lusty stallions, each neighing for his neighbor’s wife. (Jer 13:27; Jer 50:11; Eze 22:11)9Shall I not punish them for these things? declares the Lord; and shall I not avenge myself on a nation such as this? (Jer 5:29; Jer 9:9; Ro 2:2)10“Go up through her vine rows and destroy, but make not a full end; strip away her branches, for they are not the Lord’s. (Jer 4:27; Jer 39:8)11For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have been utterly treacherous to me, declares the Lord. (Jer 3:20)12They have spoken falsely of the Lord and have said, ‘He will do nothing; no disaster will come upon us, nor shall we see sword or famine. (Ge 3:4; Isa 28:15; Jer 14:13)13The prophets will become wind; the word is not in them. Thus shall it be done to them!’”
The Lord Proclaims Judgment
14Therefore thus says the Lord, the God of hosts: “Because you have spoken this word, behold, I am making my words in your mouth a fire, and this people wood, and the fire shall consume them. (Jer 1:9; Ob 1:18; Zec 12:6; Re 11:5)15Behold, I am bringing against you a nation from afar, O house of Israel, declares the Lord. It is an enduring nation; it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language you do not know, nor can you understand what they say. (De 28:49; Isa 33:19; Jer 1:15; Jer 34:21; Am 6:14)16Their quiver is like an open tomb; they are all mighty warriors. (Ps 5:9; Isa 5:28)17They shall eat up your harvest and your food; they shall eat up your sons and your daughters; they shall eat up your flocks and your herds; they shall eat up your vines and your fig trees; your fortified cities in which you trust they shall beat down with the sword.” (Le 26:16; De 28:31; De 28:33; De 28:51; Ho 8:14)18“But even in those days, declares the Lord, I will not make a full end of you. (Jer 5:10)19And when your people say, ‘Why has the Lord our God done all these things to us?’ you shall say to them, ‘As you have forsaken me and served foreign gods in your land, so you shall serve foreigners in a land that is not yours.’” (De 4:27; De 28:47; De 28:68; De 29:24; 1Ki 9:8; Jer 13:22; Jer 16:10; Jer 22:8)20Declare this in the house of Jacob; proclaim it in Judah:21“Hear this, O foolish and senseless people, who have eyes, but see not, who have ears, but hear not. (De 32:6; Isa 6:9; Mt 13:14)22Do you not fear me? declares the Lord. Do you not tremble before me? I placed the sand as the boundary for the sea, a perpetual barrier that it cannot pass; though the waves toss, they cannot prevail; though they roar, they cannot pass over it. (Job 26:10; Job 38:10; Ps 46:3; Ps 104:9; Jer 10:7; Jer 51:55)23But this people has a stubborn and rebellious heart; they have turned aside and gone away. (Jer 6:28)24They do not say in their hearts, ‘Let us fear the Lord our God, who gives the rain in its season, the autumn rain and the spring rain, and keeps for us the weeks appointed for the harvest.’ (Ge 8:22; De 11:14; Job 5:10; Ps 147:8; Jer 14:22; Mt 5:45)25Your iniquities have turned these away, and your sins have kept good from you. (Jer 3:3)26For wicked men are found among my people; they lurk like fowlers lying in wait.[1] They set a trap; they catch men. (Ps 10:9; Ps 124:7; Pr 1:11)27Like a cage full of birds, their houses are full of deceit; therefore they have become great and rich;28they have grown fat and sleek. They know no bounds in deeds of evil; they judge not with justice the cause of the fatherless, to make it prosper, and they do not defend the rights of the needy. (De 32:15; Isa 1:23; Jer 7:6; Zec 7:10)29Shall I not punish them for these things? declares the Lord, and shall I not avenge myself on a nation such as this?” (Jer 5:9)30An appalling and horrible thing has happened in the land: (Jer 23:14; Ho 6:10)31the prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule at their direction; my people love to have it so, but what will you do when the end comes? (Jer 6:13; Jer 14:14; Jer 14:18; Jer 20:6; Jer 23:21; Jer 23:25; Jer 27:10; Jer 27:15; Jer 29:9; Eze 13:6; Mic 2:11)
1Recorred las calles de Jerusalem, Y mirad, e informaos, y buscad por sus plazas, Si podéis hallar un hombre, Si hay uno solo que haga justicia, Que busque la verdad, Y Yo la perdonaré.2Pues aun cuando digan: ¡Vive YHVH!, sin embargo juran falsamente.3¡Oh YHVH!, ¿acaso tus ojos no buscan la verdad? Los castigaste, pero no se dolieron, Los consumiste, pero se negaron a recibir corrección. Endurecieron sus rostros más que la roca, Rehúsan volverse a ti.4Entonces yo dije: Ciertamente éstos son pobres, Han enloquecido, porque no conocen el camino de YHVH, El juicio de su Dios.5Iré a los grandes y hablaré con ellos, Porque ellos conocen el camino de YHVH, El juicio de su Dios. Pero todos ellos habían quebrado el yugo, Habían roto las coyundas.6Por tanto el león del bosque los mata, El lobo del desierto los destruye; El leopardo acecha en torno a sus ciudades, Cualquiera que salga de ellas será despedazado, Porque sus transgresiones son muchas, Y son agravadas sus reincidencias.7¿Cómo podré perdonarte esto? Tus hijos me han abandonado, Y juran por lo que no es Dios. Los sacié, y cometen adulterio acudiendo en tropel a casa de la ramera.8Son caballos lascivos bien alimentados, Cada cual relincha tras la mujer de su prójimo.9¿No he de visitar por estas cosas? dice YHVH, ¿Y de una nación semejante no ha de vengarse mi alma?10¡Escalad sus muros y destruid!, pero no la destruyáis del todo. ¡Arrancad sus sarmientos, Porque no son de YHVH!11Porque muy traidoramente se ha portado conmigo la casa de Israel y la casa de Judá, dice YHVH.12Renegaron de YHVH diciendo: ¡No hay tal!, no vendrá sobre nosotros la calamidad; Ni tampoco veremos espada ni hambre;13Los profetas no son más que viento, Y no hay oráculo con ellos, ¡Que así se les haga a ellos!14Por eso, así dice YHVH ’Elohim Sebaot: Por cuanto han dicho tal cosa, Haré que mi palabra sea fuego en tu boca que consumirá a ese pueblo como leña.15He aquí Yo traigo contra vosotros, oh casa de Israel, una nación lejana, dice YHVH. Nación perenne, nación antigua es, Nación cuya lengua no conoces, ni entenderás lo que diga.16Su aljaba es un sepulcro abierto, Todos ellos implacables.17Devorarán tu mies y tu pan; Devorarán a tus hijos y a tus hijas; Devorarán tus rebaños y vacadas; Devorarán tus viñas y tus higueras, Y destruirán a espada tus ciudades fortificadas, En las cuales has puesto tu confianza.18Pero ni aun en aquellos días, dice YHVH, Haré en vosotros un exterminio completo.19Y sucederá, cuando preguntareis: ¿Por qué causa trae YHVH nuestro Dios estas cosas sobre nosotros? Que les responderás: Así como me habéis abandonado, Y habéis servido a dioses extraños en vuestra tierra, Así serviréis a los extraños en una tierra que no es vuestra.20Declarad esto en la casa de Jacob, Y proclamadlo en Judá, diciendo:21¡Oíd ahora esto, pueblo insensato y sin corazón, Que tiene ojos y no ve, Que tiene oídos y no oye!22¿No me temeréis a mí?, dice YHVH; ¿No temblaréis ante mi presencia, Yo, que pongo la arena como límite al mar, Estatuto perpetuo que no puede traspasar? Aunque se agiten sus olas, No pueden prevalecer, Aunque rujan sus olas, no lo traspasan.23Pero este pueblo tiene un corazón obstinado y rebelde; Han apostatado y se han ido.24Y no dicen en su corazón: Temamos ya a YHVH nuestro Dios, Aquel que nos daba las lluvias, Las tempranas y las tardías, en su tiempo, Reservando para nosotros las semanas establecidas para la siega.25Vuestras iniquidades han alejado estas cosas, Y vuestros pecados han apartado de vosotros el bien.26Porque en medio de mi pueblo se hallan impíos; Acechan como acechan los pajareros, Ponen trampas, atrapan hombres.27Como una jaula llena de pájaros, Sus casas están llenas de engaño. Por eso se han engrandecido y enriquecido,28Se han puesto gordos y lustrosos, Y han traspasado los límites del mal: No defienden la causa, La causa del huérfano, Para que prospere, Ni mantienen el derecho del pobre.29¿Y no he de visitar Yo por estas cosas?, dice YHVH, ¿De una nación semejante no ha de vengarse mi alma?30Cosa espantosa y horrible se hace en la tierra:31Los profetas profetizan mentira y los sacerdotes gobiernan bajo su dirección, Y mi pueblo así lo quiere. Pero, ¿qué haréis al final de ello?
