The Covenant Confirmed

1 Then he said to Moses, “Come up to the Lord, you and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, and worship from afar. (Ex 6:23; Ex 28:1; Nu 11:16) 2 Moses alone shall come near to the Lord, but the others shall not come near, and the people shall not come up with him.” (Ex 24:13; Ex 24:15; Ex 24:18) 3 Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord and all the rules.^[1] And all the people answered with one voice and said, “All the words that the Lord has spoken we will do.” (Ex 19:8; Ex 21:1; De 5:27) 4 And Moses wrote down all the words of the Lord. He rose early in the morning and built an altar at the foot of the mountain, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel. (Ge 28:18; Ge 31:45; Ex 23:24; De 31:9)

5 And he sent young men of the people of Israel, who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen to the Lord. 6 And Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins, and half of the blood he threw against the altar. (Heb 9:18) 7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it in the hearing of the people. And they said, “All that the Lord has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient.” (Ex 24:3) 8 And Moses took the blood and threw it on the people and said, “Behold the blood of the covenant that the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words.” (Heb 9:19; Heb 13:20; 1Pe 1:2) 9 Then Moses and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel went up, (Ex 24:1; Nu 11:16) 10 and they saw the God of Israel. There was under his feet as it were a pavement of sapphire stone, like the very heaven for clearness. 11 And he did not lay his hand on the chief men of the people of Israel; they beheld God, and ate and drank. (Ge 31:54; Ex 18:12) 12 The Lord said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain and wait there, that I may give you the tablets of stone, with the law and the commandment, which I have written for their instruction.” (Ex 24:2; Ex 24:15; Ex 24:18; Ex 31:18; Ex 32:15; De 5:22)

13 So Moses rose with his assistant Joshua, and Moses went up into the mountain of God. (Ex 3:1; Ex 17:9; Ex 33:11) 14 And he said to the elders, “Wait here for us until we return to you. And behold, Aaron and Hur are with you. Whoever has a dispute, let him go to them.” (Ex 17:10; Ex 17:12; Ex 31:2) 15 Then Moses went up on the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. (Ex 19:9; Ex 19:16; Mt 17:5) 16 The glory of the Lord dwelt on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. And on the seventh day he called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud. 17 Now the appearance of the glory of the Lord was like a devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the sight of the people of Israel. (Ex 3:2; Ex 19:18; De 4:36; Heb 12:18; Heb 12:29)

18 Moses entered the cloud and went up on the mountain. And Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights. (Ex 34:28; De 9:9; De 9:18; De 9:25; De 10:10)

La sangre del pacto

1 Después dijo a Moisés: Sube a YHVH tú, con Aarón, Nadab y Abiú, y con setenta de los ancianos de Israel, y os postraréis a lo lejos. 2 Sólo Moisés se acercará a YHVH, pero ellos no se acercarán, ni el pueblo subirá con él. 3 Y Moisés regresó y contó al pueblo todas las palabras de YHVH y todos los decretos. Y todo el pueblo respondió a una voz, y dijeron: Cumpliremos todas las palabras que YHVH ha hablado. 4 Y escribió Moisés todas las palabras de YHVH, y levantándose temprano de mañana, construyó al pie del monte un altar y doce estelas, conforme a las doce tribus de Israel. 5 Y envió a los jóvenes de los hijos de Israel, los cuales ofrecieron holocaustos e hicieron sacrificios de becerros: ofrendas de paz a YHVH. 6 Y Moisés tomó la mitad de la sangre y la puso en tazones, y la otra mitad de la sangre la derramó sobre el altar. 7 Luego tomó el rollo del pacto y lo proclamó a oídos del pueblo. Ellos dijeron: Cumpliremos y obedeceremos todo lo que YHVH habló. 8 Entonces Moisés tomó la sangre y la roció sobre el pueblo, diciendo: ¡He aquí la sangre del pacto que YHVH ha concertado con vosotros sobre todas estas palabras! 9 Y subió Moisés con Aarón, Nadab y Abiú, y con setenta de los ancianos de Israel, 10 y vieron al Dios de Israel: Bajo sus pies había como una hechura de piedra de zafiro, semejante en pureza a los mismos cielos. 11 Y no extendió su mano contra los distinguidos de los hijos de Israel que pudieron contemplar a ’Elohim, y después comieron y bebieron. 12 Y YHVH dijo a Moisés: Sube al monte, ante mi presencia, y permanece allí, y te daré las tablas de piedra con la Ley y el mandamiento que he escrito para instruirles. 13 Y se levantó Moisés, y también Josué su servidor, y subió Moisés al monte de Dios. 14 Y él había dicho a los ancianos: Quedaos aquí hasta que volvamos a vosotros. Mirad, Aarón y Hur están con vosotros, quien tenga asuntos, acérquese a ellos. 15 Entonces Moisés subió al monte, y la nube cubrió el monte. 16 Y la gloria de YHVH reposó sobre el monte Sinay, y la nube lo cubrió por seis días. Al séptimo día llamó a Moisés de en medio de la nube. 17 Pero la apariencia de la gloria de YHVH en la cumbre del monte era como fuego consumidor ante los ojos de los hijos de Israel. 18 Y Moisés entró en medio de la nube y subió al monte. Y estuvo Moisés en el monte cuarenta días y cuarenta noches.
