1 It was now two days before the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread. And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to arrest him by stealth and kill him, (Mt 21:46; Mt 26:2; Lu 22:1; Joh 6:4; Joh 11:53) 2 for they said, “Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar from the people.” (Mt 27:24) 3 And while he was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper,[1] as he was reclining at table, a woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly, and she broke the flask and poured it over his head. (Mt 21:17; Mt 26:6; Lu 7:37; Joh 11:18; Joh 12:1) 4 There were some who said to themselves indignantly, “Why was the ointment wasted like that? 5 For this ointment could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii[2] and given to the poor.” And they scolded her. (Joh 11:33; Joh 11:38; Joh 13:29) 6 But Jesus said, “Leave her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 7 For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you want, you can do good for them. But you will not always have me. (De 15:11; Mr 2:20; Joh 7:33; 2Co 9:7) 8 She has done what she could; she has anointed my body beforehand for burial. (Mr 12:43; Lu 21:3; Joh 19:40; 2Co 8:12) 9 And truly, I say to you, wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her.” (Mt 24:14; Ac 10:4) 10 Then Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve, went to the chief priests in order to betray him to them. (Mt 26:14; Mt 27:3; Mr 3:19; Lu 22:3; Joh 6:71; Joh 12:4; Joh 13:2; Joh 13:27; Joh 13:30; Ac 1:16) 11 And when they heard it, they were glad and promised to give him money. And he sought an opportunity to betray him. (Mt 20:18) 12 And on the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrificed the Passover lamb, his disciples said to him, “Where will you have us go and prepare for you to eat the Passover?” (Ex 12:18; Mt 26:17; Lu 22:7; 1Co 5:7) 13 And he sent two of his disciples and said to them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him, (Mr 11:1) 14 and wherever he enters, say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says, Where is my guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ (Lu 2:7; Joh 11:28) 15 And he will show you a large upper room furnished and ready; there prepare for us.” (Ac 1:13) 16 And the disciples set out and went to the city and found it just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover. 17 And when it was evening, he came with the twelve. (Mt 26:20; Lu 22:14; Lu 22:21; Joh 13:21) 18 And as they were reclining at table and eating, Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me, one who is eating with me.” (Ps 41:9; Joh 6:70; Joh 13:18) 19 They began to be sorrowful and to say to him one after another, “Is it I?” 20 He said to them, “It is one of the twelve, one who is dipping bread into the dish with me. (Mr 14:10; Mr 14:18) 21 For the Son of Man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born.” (Mt 18:7; Mr 9:12; Mr 14:49; Lu 18:31; Lu 24:25; Lu 24:27; Lu 24:46; Joh 17:12; Ac 17:2; Ac 26:22; 1Co 15:3; 1Pe 1:10) 22 And as they were eating, he took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to them, and said, “Take; this is my body.” (Mt 14:19; Mt 26:26; Lu 22:18; Joh 6:53; 1Co 10:16; 1Co 11:23) 23 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it. (Mt 15:36) 24 And he said to them, “This is my blood of the[3] covenant, which is poured out for many. (Ex 24:8; Zec 9:11; Mt 20:28; Mr 14:22; Heb 13:20) 25 Truly, I say to you, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.” 26 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. (Mt 21:1; Mt 26:30; Lu 22:39; Joh 18:1) 27 And Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away, for it is written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’ (Zec 13:7; Joh 16:32) 28 But after I am raised up, I will go before you to Galilee.” (Mt 28:7; Mt 28:10; Mt 28:16; Mr 16:7) 29 Peter said to him, “Even though they all fall away, I will not.” (Lu 22:31; Lu 22:33) 30 And Jesus said to him, “Truly, I tell you, this very night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” (Mr 14:68; Mr 14:72; Lu 22:34; Joh 13:38) 31 But he said emphatically, “If I must die with you, I will not deny you.” And they all said the same. (Joh 13:37) 32 And they went to a place called Gethsemane. And he said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” (Mt 26:36; Mr 14:26; Lu 22:40) 33 And he took with him Peter and James and John, and began to be greatly distressed and troubled. (Mt 17:23; Mr 5:37; Mr 9:2) 34 And he said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death. Remain here and watch.”[4] (Ps 42:5; Mt 24:42; Joh 12:27) 35 And going a little farther, he fell on the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. (Mr 14:41; Lu 22:53; Joh 12:23; Joh 12:27; Joh 13:1; Joh 16:4; Joh 17:1; Heb 5:7) 36 And he said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.” (Mt 19:26; Mr 10:38; Joh 5:30; Joh 6:38; Ro 8:15; Ga 4:6; Php 2:8) 37 And he came and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, “Simon, are you asleep? Could you not watch one hour? 38 Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Mt 6:13; Mr 14:34; 1Pe 4:7) 39 And again he went away and prayed, saying the same words. (Mr 14:36) 40 And again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were very heavy, and they did not know what to answer him. (Mr 9:6; Lu 9:32; Lu 9:33) 41 And he came the third time and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? It is enough; the hour has come. The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. (Mr 9:31; Mr 10:33; Mr 14:35; Lu 22:38) 42 Rise, let us be going; see, my betrayer is at hand.” 43 And immediately, while he was still speaking, Judas came, one of the twelve, and with him a crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders. (Mt 26:47; Mr 14:10; Lu 22:47; Joh 18:3; Ac 1:16) 44 Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, “The one I will kiss is the man. Seize him and lead him away under guard.” 45 And when he came, he went up to him at once and said, “Rabbi!” And he kissed him. (Lu 7:38; Lu 7:45; Lu 15:20; Joh 1:38; Ac 20:37) 46 And they laid hands on him and seized him. 47 But one of those who stood by drew his sword and struck the servant[5] of the high priest and cut off his ear. (Lu 22:38) 48 And Jesus said to them, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? 49 Day after day I was with you in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me. But let the Scriptures be fulfilled.” (Mt 1:22; Mt 4:23; Mt 21:23; Mr 14:21; Lu 2:46; Joh 8:2; Joh 18:20) 50 And they all left him and fled. (Ps 88:8; Ps 88:18; Mr 14:27; Joh 16:32) 51 And a young man followed him, with nothing but a linen cloth about his body. And they seized him, (Jud 14:12; Pr 31:24; Mr 15:46) 52 but he left the linen cloth and ran away naked. 53 And they led Jesus to the high priest. And all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes came together. (Mt 26:57; Lu 22:54; Joh 18:12; Joh 18:19) 54 And Peter had followed him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest. And he was sitting with the guards and warming himself at the fire. (Mt 26:3; Mr 14:53; Mr 14:67; Mr 14:68; Joh 7:32; Joh 18:3; Joh 18:15; Joh 18:18) 55 Now the chief priests and the whole council[6] were seeking testimony against Jesus to put him to death, but they found none. 56 For many bore false witness against him, but their testimony did not agree. (De 17:6; De 19:15; Ps 27:12; Ps 35:11) 57 And some stood up and bore false witness against him, saying, 58 “We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and in three days I will build another, not made with hands.’” (Mr 15:29; Joh 2:19; Ac 6:14; Ac 7:48; Ac 17:24; 2Co 5:1; Heb 9:11; Heb 9:24) 59 Yet even about this their testimony did not agree. 60 And the high priest stood up in the midst and asked Jesus, “Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?”[7] 61 But he remained silent and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?” (Isa 53:7; Mt 1:17; Mr 8:29; Mr 15:4; Lu 22:67; Joh 19:9; Ro 1:25) 62 And Jesus said, “I am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.” (Ps 110:1; Mt 16:27; Mt 24:30; Mr 16:19; Heb 1:3) 63 And the high priest tore his garments and said, “What further witnesses do we need? (Nu 14:6; Ac 14:14) 64 You have heard his blasphemy. What is your decision?” And they all condemned him as deserving death. (Le 24:16; Mt 9:3; Lu 23:50; Joh 10:36) 65 And some began to spit on him and to cover his face and to strike him, saying to him, “Prophesy!” And the guards received him with blows. (Es 7:8; Isa 50:6; Mt 5:39; Mr 10:34; Mr 15:19; Lu 22:63; Ac 23:2) 66 And as Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant girls of the high priest came, (Mt 26:69; Lu 22:55; Joh 18:16; Joh 18:25) 67 and seeing Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said, “You also were with the Nazarene, Jesus.” (Mr 14:54) 68 But he denied it, saying, “I neither know nor understand what you mean.” And he went out into the gateway[8] and the rooster crowed.[9] (Mr 14:30; Mr 14:72) 69 And the servant girl saw him and began again to say to the bystanders, “This man is one of them.” 70 But again he denied it. And after a little while the bystanders again said to Peter, “Certainly you are one of them, for you are a Galilean.” 71 But he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, “I do not know this man of whom you speak.” 72 And immediately the rooster crowed a second time. And Peter remembered how Jesus had said to him, “Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” And he broke down and wept.[10] (Mr 14:30; Mr 14:68; Ac 3:13)

1 Po dvou pak dnech byl hod beránka a přesnic; i hledali přední kněží a zákoníci, kterak by jej lstivě jmouce, zamordovali. 2 Ale pravili: Ne v svátek, aby snad nebyl rozbroj v lidu. 3 A když byl v Betany, v domu Šimona malomocného, a seděl za stolem, přišla žena, mající nádobu alabastrovou masti velmi drahé, z nardového koření. A rozbivši nádobu, vylila ji na hlavu jeho. 4 I hněvali se někteří mezi sebou, řkouce: I proč ztráta masti této stala se? 5 Nebo mohlo jest toto prodáno býti dráže než za tři sta peněz, a dáno býti chudým. I škřipěli zubami na ni. 6 Ale Ježíš řekl: Nechtež jí. Proč ji rmoutíte? Dobrýť jest skutek učinila nade mnou. 7 Však chudé máte vždycky s sebou, a když budete chtíti, můžete jim dobře činiti, ale mne ne vždy míti budete. 8 Ona což mohla, to učinila; předešlať jest, aby těla mého pomazala ku pohřebu. 9 Amen pravím vám: Kdežkoli bude kázáno toto evangelium po všem světě, také i to, což učinila tato, bude vypravováno na památku její. 10 Tedy Jidáš Iškariotský, jeden ze dvanácti, odšel k předním kněžím, aby ho jim zradil. 11 Oni pak uslyševše to, zradovali se, a slíbili mu peníze dáti. I hledal, kterak by ho příhodně zradil. 12 Prvního pak dne přesnic, když velikonoční beránek zabíjín býval, řkou jemu učedlníci jeho: Kde chceš, ať jdouce, připravíme, abys jedl beránka? 13 I poslal dva z učedlníků svých, a řekl jim: Jděte do města, a potkáť vás člověk dčbán vody nesa. Jdětež za ním. 14 A kamžkoli vejde, rcete k hospodáři domu toho: Mistrť praví: Kde jest večeřadlo, v němž bych jedl beránka s učedlníky svými? 15 A on vám ukáže večeřadlo veliké, podlážené a připravené. Tu nám připravte. 16 I odešli učedlníci jeho, a přišli do města, a nalezli tak, jakož jim byl pověděl. I připravili beránka. 17 Když pak byl večer, přišel se dvanácti. 18 A když seděli za stolem a jedli, řekl Ježíš: Amen pravím vám, že jeden z vás mne zradí, kterýž jí se mnou. 19 A oni počali se rmoutiti a praviti jemu jeden každý obzvláštně: Zdali já jsem? A jiný: Zdali já? 20 On pak odpověděv, řekl jim: Jeden ze dvanácti, kterýž omáčí se mnou v míse. 21 Syn zajisté člověka jde, jakož jest psáno o něm, ale běda člověku tomu, skrze něhož Syn člověka bude zrazen. Dobré by bylo jemu, aby se byl nenarodil člověk ten. 22 A když oni jedli, vzav Ježíš chléb, a dobrořečiv, lámal a dával jim, řka: Vezměte, jezte, to jest tělo mé. 23 A vzav kalich, a díky učiniv, dal jim. A pili z něho všickni. 24 I řekl jim: To jest krev má nového Zákona, kteráž se za mnohé vylévá. 25 Amen pravím vám, žeť již více nebudu píti z plodu vinného kořene, až do onoho dne, když jej píti budu nový v království Božím. 26 A sezpívavše písničku, vyšli na horu Olivetskou. 27 Potom řekl jim Ježíš: Všickni vy zhoršíte se nade mnou této noci. Nebo psáno jest: Bíti budu pastýře, a rozprchnou se ovce. 28 Ale když z mrtvých vstanu, předejduť vás do Galilee. 29 Tedy Petr řekl jemu: Byť se pak všickni zhoršili, ale já nic. 30 Řekl jemu Ježíš: Amen pravím tobě, že dnes této noci, prve než kohout po dvakrát zazpívá, třikrát mne zapříš. 31 On pak mnohem více mluvil: Bychť pak měl s tebou i umříti, nezapřímť tebe. A takž také i všickni mluvili. 32 I přišli na místo, kterémuž jméno Getsemany. Tedy řekl učedlníkům svým: Seďtež tuto, ažť se pomodlím. 33 A pojav s sebou Petra a Jakuba a Jana, počal se lekati a velmi teskliv býti. 34 I dí jim: Smutnáť jest duše má až k smrti. Počekejtež tuto a bděte. 35 A poodšed maličko, padl na zemi a modlil se, aby, bylo-li by možné, odešla od něho hodina ta. 36 I řekl: Abba, Otče, všecko jest možné tobě. Přenes kalich tento ode mne, ale však ne, což já chci, ale co ty. 37 I přišel k učedlníkům a nalezl je, ani spí. I řekl Petrovi: Šimone, spíš? Nemohl-lis jediné hodiny bdíti? 38 Bděte a modlte se, abyste nevešli v pokušení. Duchť zajisté hotov jest, ale tělo nemocno. 39 A opět odšed, modlil se, táž slova mluvě. 40 A navrátiv se, nalezl je, ani opět spí; nebo oči jejich byly obtíženy; aniž věděli, co by jemu odpověděli. 41 I přišel po třetí, a řekl jim: Spětež již a odpočívejte; dostiť jest. Přišla hodina; aj, Syna člověka zrazují v ruce hříšných. 42 Vstaňte, pojďme. Aj, kterýž mne zrazuje, blízkoť jest. 43 A hned, když on ještě mluvil, přišel Jidáš, jenž byl jeden ze dvanácti, a s ním zástup veliký s meči a s kyjmi, poslaných od předních kněží a od zákoníků a starších. 44 Zrádce pak byl jim dal znamení, řka: Kteréhožkoli políbím, tenť jest, jmětež ho a veďte opatrně. 45 A přišed, hned přistoupiv k němu, řekl: Mistře, Mistře, a políbil ho. 46 Tedy oni vztáhli naň ruce své a jali jej. 47 Jeden pak z těch, kteříž tu okolo stáli, vytrh meč, udeřil služebníka nejvyššího kněze, a uťal jemu ucho. 48 I odpověděv Ježíš, řekl jim: Jako na lotra vyšli jste s meči a s kyjmi, abyste mne jali? 49 Na každý den býval jsem u vás, uče v chrámě, a nejali jste mne. Ale toť se děje, aby se naplnila písma. 50 Tedy učedlníci opustivše jej, všickni utekli. 51 Jeden pak mládenček šel za ním, odín jsa rouchem lněným po nahém těle. I popadli jej mládenci. 52 On pak opustiv roucho, nahý utekl od nich. 53 I přivedli Ježíše k nejvyššímu knězi, a sešli se k němu všickni přední kněží i starší i zákoníci. 54 Petr pak šel za ním zdaleka až na dvůr nejvyššího kněze; i seděl s služebníky, zhřívaje se u ohně. 55 Ale nejvyšší kněz i všecka ta rada hledali proti Ježíšovi svědectví, aby jej na smrt vydali, avšak nenalezli. 56 Nebo ač mnozí křivé svědectví mluvili proti němu, ale svědectví jejich nebyla jednostejná. 57 Tedy někteří povstavše, křivé svědectví dávali proti němu, řkouce: 58 My jsme slyšeli tohoto, že řekl: Já zbořím chrám tento rukou udělaný, a ve třech dnech jiný ne rukou udělaný postavím. 59 Ale ani to jejich svědectví nebylo jednostejné. 60 Tedy povstav nejvyšší kněz uprostřed, otázal se Ježíše, řka: Neodpovídáš ničehož, což tito na tebe svědčí? 61 Ale on mlčel, a nic neodpověděl. Opět nejvyšší kněz otázal se ho a řekl jemu: Jsi-liž ty Kristus, Syn Boha Požehnaného? 62 A Ježíš řekl: Jáť jsem, a uzříte Syna člověka, an sedí na pravici moci Boží, a přichází s oblaky nebeskými. 63 Tedy nejvyšší kněz roztrh roucho své, řekl: I což ještě potřebujeme svědků? 64 Slyšeli jste rouhání. Co se vám zdá? Oni pak všickni odsoudili jej, že jest hoden smrti. 65 I počali někteří naň plvati, a tvář jeho zakrývati, a poličkovati, a říkati jemu: Prorokuj nám. A služebníci kyji jej bili. 66 A když byl Petr v síni dole, přišla jedna z děveček nejvyššího kněze. 67 A uzřevši Petra, an se ohřívá, a popatřivši naň, dí: I ty s Ježíšem Nazaretským byl jsi. 68 Ale on zapřel, řka: Aniž vím, ani rozumím, co ty pravíš. I vyšel ven před síň, a kohout zazpíval. 69 Tedy děvečka, uzřevši jej opět, počala praviti těm, kteříž tu okolo stáli, že tento z nich jest. 70 A on opět zapřel. A po malé chvíli opět ti, kteříž tu stáli, řekli Petrovi: Jistě z nich jsi, nebo i Galilejský jsi, i řeč tvá podobná jest. 71 On pak počal se proklínati a přisahati, pravě: Neznám člověka toho, o němž vy pravíte. 72 A hned po druhé kohout zazpíval. I rozpomenul se Petr na slovo, kteréž byl řekl jemu Ježíš: Že prve než kohout dvakrát zazpívá, třikrát mne zapříš. A vyšed, plakal.
