1And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart. (Lu 11:5; Lu 21:36; Ro 12:12; 2Co 4:1; 2Co 4:16; Eph 6:18; Col 4:2; 1Th 5:17; 2Th 3:13)2He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected man. (2Co 8:21)3And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’4For a while he refused, but afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor respect man, (Lu 11:8)5yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice, so that she will not beat me down by her continual coming.’”6And the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge says.7And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? (Ps 88:1; Isa 63:4; Mr 13:20; Ro 8:33; Col 3:12; Tit 1:1; Jas 5:7; 2Pe 3:9; Re 6:10)8I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?” (Mt 24:12; Lu 17:26; Heb 10:37)
The Pharisee and the Tax Collector
9He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and treated others with contempt: (Pr 30:12; Isa 65:5; Mt 5:20; Lu 16:15; Joh 7:48; 2Co 1:9)10“Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. (2Ki 20:5; 2Ki 20:8; Lu 18:14; Ac 3:1)11The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed[1] thus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. (Mt 6:5; Mr 11:25; Re 3:17)12I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.’ (Mt 9:14; Lu 11:42)13But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ (Ezr 9:6; Ps 79:9; Eze 16:63; Da 9:19; Lu 18:11; Lu 23:48)14I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.” (Lu 14:11)
Let the Children Come to Me
15Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. (Mt 19:13; Mr 10:13; Lu 18:39)16But Jesus called them to him, saying, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. (Mt 18:3; Mr 9:39)17Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” (Lu 8:13; Joh 3:3; Joh 3:5; Jas 1:21)
The Rich Ruler
18And a ruler asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” (Mt 19:16; Mt 25:34; Mr 10:17; Lu 10:25)19And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.20You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.’” (Ex 20:12; De 5:16; Mt 5:21; Mt 5:27; Ro 13:9)21And he said, “All these I have kept from my youth.” (Php 3:6)22When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” (Mt 6:19; Lu 12:33; Lu 16:9; Lu 19:8; Ac 2:45; Ac 4:34; 1Ti 6:18)23But when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich. (Eze 33:31)24Jesus, seeing that he had become sad, said, “How difficult it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God! (Mt 12:28; Mt 13:22; 1Co 1:26)25For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” (Lu 18:24)26Those who heard it said, “Then who can be saved?”27But he said, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.” (Ge 18:14; Job 42:2; Jer 32:17; Jer 32:27; Lu 1:37)28And Peter said, “See, we have left our homes and followed you.” (Mt 4:20; Mt 4:22; Mr 1:18; Mr 1:20)29And he said to them, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers[2] or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, (Lu 14:26)30who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life.” (Job 42:10; Mt 6:33; Mt 12:32; Lu 20:35; Eph 1:21)
Jesus Foretells His Death a Third Time
31And taking the twelve, he said to them, “See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written about the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished. (Mt 1:22; Mt 20:17; Mt 26:24; Mr 10:32; Lu 9:51)32For he will be delivered over to the Gentiles and will be mocked and shamefully treated and spit upon. (Mt 26:67; Mt 27:2; Mt 27:26; Mr 14:65; Mr 15:19; Joh 18:30; Ac 2:23; Ac 3:13; Ac 4:27; Ac 21:11)33And after flogging him, they will kill him, and on the third day he will rise.” (Lu 9:22)34But they understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they did not grasp what was said. (Mr 9:32; Lu 9:45; Lu 24:16)
Jesus Heals a Blind Beggar
35As he drew near to Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. (Mt 20:29; Mr 10:46; Joh 9:1; Joh 9:8)36And hearing a crowd going by, he inquired what this meant.37They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.” (Mt 2:23)38And he cried out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” (Mt 1:1; Mt 9:27)39And those who were in front rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” (Lu 18:15)40And Jesus stopped and commanded him to be brought to him. And when he came near, he asked him,41“What do you want me to do for you?” He said, “Lord, let me recover my sight.” (Mr 10:36)42And Jesus said to him, “Recover your sight; your faith has made you well.” (Mt 9:22; Mr 5:34; Lu 7:3; Lu 7:50; Lu 8:36; Lu 8:48; Lu 8:50; Lu 17:19)43And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him, glorifying God. 1Pověděl jim také i podobenství, kterak by potřebí bylo vždycky se modliti a neoblevovati,2Řka: Byl jeden soudce v městě jednom, kterýž se Boha nebál a člověka nestyděl.3Byla pak vdova jedna v témž městě. I přišla k němu, řkuci: Pomsti mne nad protivníkem mým.4A on nechtěl za dlouhý čas. Ale potom řekl sám v sobě: Ač se Boha nebojím, a člověka nestydím,5Však že mi pokoje nedá tato vdova, pomstím jí, aby naposledy přijduci, neuhaněla mne.6I dí Pán: Slyšte, co praví soudce nepravý.7A což by pak Bůh nepomstil volených svých, volajících k němu dnem i nocí, ačkoli i prodlévá jim?8Pravímť vám, žeť jich brzo pomstí. Ale když přijde Syn člověka, zdaliž nalezne víru na zemi?9I řekl také k některým, kteříž v sebe doufali, že by spravedliví byli, jiných sobě za nic nevážíce, podobenství toto:10Dva muži vstupovali do chrámu, aby se modlili, jeden farizeus a druhý publikán.11Farizeus stoje soukromí, takto se modlil: Bože, děkuji tobě, že nejsem jako jiní lidé, dráči, nespravedliví, cizoložníci, aneb jako i tento publikán.12Postím se dvakrát do téhodne, desátky dávám ze všech věcí, kterýmiž vládnu.13Publikán pak zdaleka stoje, nechtěl ani očí k nebi pozdvihnouti, ale bil se v prsy své, řka: Bože, buď milostiv mně hříšnému.14Pravímť vám: Odšel tento, ospravedlněn jsa, do domu svého, a ne onen. Nebo každý, kdož se povyšuje, bude ponížen; a kdož se ponižuje, bude povýšen.15Přinášeli také k němu i nemluvňátka, aby se jich dotýkal. To viděvše učedlníci, přimlouvali jim.16Ale Ježíš svolav je, řekl: Nechte dítek, ať jdou ke mně, a nebraňte jim, nebo takovýchť jest království Boží.17Amen pravím vám: Kdož by koli nepřijal království Božího jako dítě, nevejdeť do něho.18I otázalo se ho jedno kníže, řka: Mistře dobrý, co čině, život věčný obdržím?19I řekl jemu Ježíš: Co mne nazýváš dobrým? Žádný není dobrý, než sám toliko Bůh.20Však umíš přikázání: Nezcizoložíš, nezabiješ, nepokradeš, nepromluvíš křivého svědectví, cti otce svého i matku svou.21On pak řekl: Toho všeho ostříhal jsem od své mladosti.22Slyšav to Ježíš, řekl mu: Ještěť se jednoho nedostává. Všecko, což máš, prodej, a rozdej chudým, a budeš míti poklad v nebi, a pojď, následuj mne.23On pak uslyšav to, zarmoutil se; byl zajisté bohatý velmi.24A viděv jej Ježíš zarmouceného, řekl: Aj, jak nesnadně ti, kdož statky mají, do království Božího vejdou!25Snáze jest zajisté velbloudu skrze jehelnou dírku projíti, nežli bohatému vjíti do království Božího.26Tedy řekli ti, kteříž to slyšeli: I kdož může spasen býti?27A on dí jim: Což jest nemožného u lidí, možné jest u Boha.28I řekl Petr: Aj, my opustili jsme všecko, a šli jsme za tebou.29On pak řekl jim: Amen pravím vám, že není žádného, kterýž by opustil dům, neb rodiče, neb bratří, neb manželku, nebo dítky, pro království Boží,30Aby nevzal v tomto času mnohem více, v budoucím pak věku míti bude život věčný.31Tedy pojav Ježíš dvanácte, řekl jim: Aj, vstupujeme do Jeruzaléma, a naplníť se všecko to, což psáno jest skrze Proroky o Synu člověka.32Nebo vydán bude pohanům, a bude posmíván, a zlehčen i uplván.33A ubičujíce, zamordují jej, ale on třetího dne z mrtvých vstane.34Oni pak tomu nic nerozuměli, a bylo slovo to skryto před nimi, aniž věděli, co se pravilo.35I stalo se, když se přibližoval k Jericho, slepý jeden seděl podle cesty, žebře.36A slyšev zástup pomíjející, otázal se, co by to bylo?37I oznámili jemu, že Ježíš Nazaretský tudy jde.38I zvolal, řka: Ježíši, synu Davidův, smiluj se nade mnou!39A ti, kteříž napřed šli, přimlouvali mu, aby mlčal. Ale on mnohem více volal: Synu Davidův, smiluj se nade mnou!40Tedy zastaviv se Ježíš, rozkázal ho k sobě přivésti. A když se přibližoval, otázal se ho,41Řka: Co chceš, ať tobě učiním? On pak dí: Pane, ať vidím.42A Ježíš řekl jemu: Prohlédni. Víra tvá tě uzdravila.43A ihned prohlédl, a šel za ním, velebě Boha. A všecken lid viděv to, vzdal chválu Bohu.
