1And Hannah prayed and said, “My heart exults in the Lord; my horn is exalted in the Lord. My mouth derides my enemies, because I rejoice in your salvation. (1Sa 2:10; Ps 9:14; Ps 13:5; Ps 20:5; Ps 35:9; Ps 75:10; Ps 89:17; Ps 89:24; Ps 92:10; Ps 112:9; Ps 148:14; Lu 1:46)2“There is none holy like the Lord: for there is none besides you; there is no rock like our God. (Ex 15:11; De 32:30; Ps 86:8; Ps 89:6; Ps 89:8)3Talk no more so very proudly, let not arrogance come from your mouth; for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.4The bows of the mighty are broken, but the feeble bind on strength. (Ps 37:15; Ps 46:9; Ps 76:3)5Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread, but those who were hungry have ceased to hunger. The barren has borne seven, but she who has many children is forlorn. (Ps 113:9; Isa 54:1; Jer 15:9)6The Lord kills and brings to life; he brings down to Sheol and raises up. (De 32:39)7The Lord makes poor and makes rich; he brings low and he exalts. Eli’s Worthless Sons
12Now the sons of Eli were worthless men. They did not know the Lord. (Jud 2:10; 1Sa 1:16)13The custom of the priests with the people was that when any man offered sacrifice, the priest’s servant would come, while the meat was boiling, with a three-pronged fork in his hand,14and he would thrust it into the pan or kettle or cauldron or pot. All that the fork brought up the priest would take for himself. This is what they did at Shiloh to all the Israelites who came there.15Moreover, before the fat was burned, the priest’s servant would come and say to the man who was sacrificing, “Give meat for the priest to roast, for he will not accept boiled meat from you but only raw.” (Le 3:5; Le 3:16; Le 7:23; Le 7:25; Le 7:31)16And if the man said to him, “Let them burn the fat first, and then take as much as you wish,” he would say, “No, you must give it now, and if not, I will take it by force.”17Thus the sin of the young men was very great in the sight of the Lord, for the men treated the offering of the Lord with contempt. (Ge 6:11; Mal 2:8)18Samuel was ministering before the Lord, a boy clothed with a linen ephod. (Ex 28:4; 1Sa 2:11; 1Sa 3:1; 2Sa 6:14; 1Ch 15:27)19And his mother used to make for him a little robe and take it to him each year when she went up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice. (1Sa 1:3)20Then Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife, and say, “May the Lord give you children by this woman for the petition she asked of the Lord.” So then they would return to their home. (1Sa 1:28)21Indeed the Lord visited Hannah, and she conceived and bore three sons and two daughters. And the boy Samuel grew in the presence of the Lord. Eli Rebukes His Sons
22Now Eli was very old, and he kept hearing all that his sons were doing to all Israel, and how they lay with the women who were serving at the entrance to the tent of meeting. (Ex 38:8)23And he said to them, “Why do you do such things? For I hear of your evil dealings from all these people.24No, my sons; it is no good report that I hear the people of the Lord spreading abroad.25If someone sins against a man, God will mediate for him, but if someone sins against the Lord, who can intercede for him?” But they would not listen to the voice of their father, for it was the will of the Lord to put them to death. (Jos 11:20)26Now the boy Samuel continued to grow both in stature and in favor with the Lord and also with man. (Lu 2:52)
The Lord Rejects Eli’s Household
27And there came a man of God to Eli and said to him, “Thus says the Lord, ‘Did I indeed reveal myself to the house of your father when they were in Egypt subject to the house of Pharaoh? (1Ki 13:1)28Did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to go up to my altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? I gave to the house of your father all my offerings by fire from the people of Israel. (Ex 28:1; Le 2:3; Le 2:10; Le 6:16; Le 7:7; Le 7:34; Le 10:14; Nu 5:9; Nu 18:1; Nu 18:7; Nu 18:8; 1Sa 14:3; 1Sa 22:18)29Why then do you scorn[2] my sacrifices and my offerings that I commanded for my dwelling, and honor your sons above me by fattening yourselves on the choicest parts of every offering of my people Israel?’ (De 32:15)30Therefore the Lord, the God of Israel, declares: ‘I promised that your house and the house of your father should go in and out before me forever,’ but now the Lord declares: ‘Far be it from me, for those who honor me I will honor, and those who despise me shall be lightly esteemed. (Ex 27:21; Ex 29:9; Jer 18:9)31Behold, the days are coming when I will cut off your strength and the strength of your father’s house, so that there will not be an old man in your house. 1I modlila se Anna a řekla: Zplésalo srdce mé v Hospodinu, a vyzdvižen jest roh můj v Hospodinu; rozšířila se ústa má proti nepřátelům mým, nebo rozveselila jsem se v spasení tvém.2Neníť žádný tak svatý jako Hospodin; nýbrž žádného není kromě tebe, neníť žádný tak silný jako Bůh náš.3Nemluvtež již více hrdě, a nevycházej z úst vašich slovo pyšné; nebo Bůh silný vševědoucí jest Hospodin, a usilování jeho jemu nepochybují.4Lučiště i silní potříni jsou, a mdlí opásáni jsou silou.5Sytí z chleba jednají se k dílu, a hladovití přestali lačněti, tak že neplodná porodila sedmero, a kteráž mnoho dětí měla, zemdlena jest.6Hospodin umrtvuje i obživuje, uvodí do pekla i vyvodí.7Hospodin ochuzuje i zbohacuje, ponižuje i povyšuje.8Nuzného vyzdvihuje z prachu, a z hnoje vyvyšuje chudého, aby je posadil s knížaty, a stolici slávy dědičně jim dal; nebo Hospodinovy jsou stěžeje země, na nichž založil okršlek.9Onť ostříhá noh svatých svých, ale bezbožní ve tmě umlknou; nebo ne v síle záleží síla člověka.10Kteříž se protiví Hospodinu, setříni budou, na takové s nebe hřímati bude. Hospodin souditi bude končiny země, a dá sílu králi svému, a vyvýší roh pomazaného svého.11I navrátil se Elkána do Ramaty, do domu svého, a pacholátko přisluhovalo Hospodinu při knězi Elí.12Synové pak Elí byli bezbožní, a neznali Hospodina.13Nebo těch kněží obyčej při lidu byl: Kdokoli obětoval obět, přicházel kněžský mládenec, když se maso vařilo, maje v ruce své hák třízubý,14A vrazil jej do nádoby neb do kotlíku, neb do pánve, aneb do hrnce, a cokoli zachytil hák, to sobě bral kněz. Tak činívali všemu lidu Izraelskému, kteříž tam přicházeli do Sílo.15Nýbrž, prvé než tuk zapalovali, přicházel mládenec kněžský a říkal člověku, kterýž obětoval: Dej masa, ať upeku knězi, nebo nevezme od tebe masa vařeného, ale surové.16Jemuž odpověděl-li člověk ten: Nechť jest prvé zapálen tuk, a potom vezmeš sobě, čehož žádá duše tvá, on říkal: Nikoli, ale dej hned; jestliže pak nedáš, mocí vezmu.17I byl to hřích mládenců těch před Hospodinem velmi veliký; nebo pohrdali lidé obětmi Hospodinovými.18Samuel pak přisluhoval před Hospodinem, mládenček, oděný jsa efodem lněným.19A matka jeho dělávala mu sukničku malou, a přinášela jemu každého roku, když přicházela s mužem svým k obětování oběti výroční.20I požehnal Elí Elkánovi a manželce jeho, řka: Dejž tobě Hospodin símě z ženy této za oddaného, kteréhož jsi vyžádal na Hospodinu. I odešli na místo své.21Tedy navštívil Hospodin Annu, kteráž počala a porodila tři syny a dvě dcery. Ale mládenček Samuel rostl před Hospodinem.22Elí pak byl starý velmi a slyšel všecky věci, kteréž činili synové jeho všemu Izraeli, a kterak obývali s ženami, kteréž přisluhovaly u dveří stánku úmluvy.23I řekl jim: Proč činíte takové věci? Nebo já slyším zlé slovo o vás ode všeho lidu tohoto.24Nikoli, synové moji, neboť není dobrá pověst, kterouž já slyším, že odvracíte lid Hospodinův.25Zhřeší-li člověk proti člověku, souditi ho bude soudce; pakli kdo zhřeší proti Hospodinu, kdo se zasadí o něho? Ale neuposlechli hlasu otce svého, nebo je chtěl zbíti Hospodin.26Ale mládenček Samuel prospíval a rostl, a milý byl, jakož před Hospodinem, tak i před lidmi.27I přišel muž Boží k Elí a řekl jemu: Takto praví Hospodin: Zdaliž jsem se patrně nezjevil domu otce tvého, když byli v Egyptě, v domě Faraonově?28A vyvolil jsem ho sobě ze všech pokolení Izraelských za kněze, aby obětoval na oltáři mém, a aby kadil vonnými věcmi a nosil efod přede mnou; dal jsem také domu otce tvého všecky ohnivé oběti synů Izraelských.29Proč pošlapáváte obět mou, i suchou obět mou, kterouž jsem přikázal v příbytku tomto? A víces ctil syny své nežli mne, abyste tyli prvotinami všech obětí suchých Izraele lidu mého.30Protož praví Hospodin Bůh Izraelský: Řeklť jsem byl zajisté, dům tvůj a dům otce tvého přisluhovati měl přede mnou až na věky, ale nyní praví Hospodin: Odstup to ode mne; nebo těch, kteříž mne ctí, poctím, kteříž pak mnou pohrdají, v pohrdání přijdou.31Aj, dnové přicházejí, že odetnu rámě tvé a rámě domu otce tvého, aby nebylo starce v domě tvém.32A viděti budeš protivníka v příbytku Páně, ve všem, čehož Bůh štědře udíleti bude Izraelovi, aniž bude starce v domě tvém po všecky dny.33A ačkoli nevyhladím do konce muže od oltáře svého, abych trápil oči tvé a bolestí ssužoval duši tvou, všecko však množství domu tvého zemrou v věku vyspělém.34A to měj za znamení, což přijde na dva syny tvé, Ofni a Fínesa: oba jednoho dne umrou.35Vzbudím pak sobě kněze věrného, kterýž vedlé srdce mého a vedlé duše mé vše konati bude, a vzdělám jemu dům stálý, aby přisluhoval před pomazaným mým po všecky dny.36A budeť, že kdožkoli pozůstane z domu tvého, přijde, aby se poklonil jemu, pro peníz stříbrný a pro skyvu chleba, a řekne: Připusť mne, prosím, k jedné třídě kněžské, abych jedl chléb.
