1Und Abram zog aus Ägypten herauf, er und seine Frau und alles, was er hatte, und Lot mit ihm, nach dem Süden[1]. (1Mo 12,9)2Und Abram war sehr reich an Vieh, an Silber und an Gold. (1Mo 24,1; 1Mo 26,13; 1Mo 30,43)3Und er ging auf seinen Tagemärschen[2] vom Süden[3] bis nach Bethel, bis zu der Stätte, wo im Anfang sein Zelt gewesen war, zwischen Bethel und Ai,4zu der Stätte des Altars, den er vorher dort gemacht hatte. Und Abram rief dort den Namen des HERRN an. (1Mo 12,7)5Und auch Lot, der mit Abram zog, hatte Schafe und Rinder und Zelte. (1Mo 12,4)6Und das Land ertrug es nicht, dass sie zusammen wohnten; denn ihre Habe war groß, und sie konnten nicht zusammen wohnen. (1Mo 36,7)7So gab es Streit zwischen den Hirten von Abrams Vieh und den Hirten von Lots Vieh. Und die Kanaaniter und die Perisiter wohnten damals im Land. (1Mo 12,6)8Da sprach Abram zu Lot: Lass doch keinen Streit sein zwischen mir und dir und zwischen meinen Hirten und deinen Hirten; wir sind doch Brüder![4] (1Mo 14,14)9Ist nicht das ganze Land vor dir? Trenne dich doch von mir! Willst du nach links, dann gehe ich nach rechts, und willst du nach rechts, dann gehe ich nach links. (1Mo 20,15)10Da erhob Lot seine Augen und sah die ganze Ebene[5] des Jordan, dass sie ganz bewässert war – bevor der HERR Sodom und Gomorra zerstört hatte – wie der Garten des HERRN, wie das Land Ägypten, bis nach Zoar hin. (1Mo 19,24; Ps 107,34)11Da wählte sich Lot die ganze Ebene[6] des Jordan, und Lot brach auf nach Osten; so trennten sie sich voneinander.12Abram wohnte im Land Kanaan, und Lot wohnte in den Städten der Ebene[7] ⟨des Jordan⟩ und schlug ⟨seine⟩ Zelte auf bis nach Sodom. (1Mo 14,12; 1Mo 19,1; Offb 11,8)13Die Leute von Sodom aber waren sehr böse und sündig vor dem HERRN. (1Mo 18,20; 1Mo 19,13; 1Sam 2,17; Jer 23,14; 2Petr 2,7)14Und der HERR sprach zu Abram, nachdem Lot sich von ihm getrennt hatte: Erheb doch deine Augen, und schaue von dem Ort, wo du bist, nach Norden und nach Süden, nach Osten und nach Westen!15Denn das ganze Land, das du siehst, dir will ich es geben und deinen Nachkommen für ewig. (1Mo 12,7)16Und ich will deine Nachkommen machen wie den Staub der Erde, sodass, wenn jemand den Staub der Erde zählen kann, auch deine Nachkommen gezählt werden. (1Mo 17,2; 1Mo 22,17; 1Mo 28,14; 4Mo 23,10; 2Chr 1,9; Hi 5,25)17Mache dich auf, und durchwandere das Land seiner Länge nach und seiner Breite nach! Denn dir will ich es geben. (1Mo 12,7)18Und Abram schlug ⟨seine⟩ Zelte auf[8] und ging hin und ließ sich nieder unter den Terebinthen von Mamre, die bei Hebron sind; und er baute dort dem HERRN einen Altar. (1Mo 12,7; 1Mo 14,13; 1Mo 18,1; 1Mo 23,2; 1Mo 35,27; 4Mo 13,22; Jos 15,13; Hebr 11,9)
1Abram went up from Egypt to the Negev Desert. He took his wife and everything he had. Lot went with him.2Abram had become very rich. He had a lot of livestock and silver and gold.3Abram left the Negev Desert. He went from place to place until he came to Bethel. Then he came to the place between Bethel and Ai where his tent had been earlier.4There he called on the name of the LORD at the altar he had built.5Lot was moving around with Abram. Lot also had flocks and herds and tents.6But the land didn’t have enough food for both Abram and Lot. They had large herds and many servants, so they weren’t able to stay together.7The people who took care of Abram’s herds and those who took care of Lot’s herds began to argue. The Canaanites and Perizzites were also living in the land at that time.8So Abram said to Lot, ‘Let’s not argue with each other. The people taking care of your herds and those taking care of mine shouldn’t argue with one another either. After all, we’re part of the same family.9Isn’t the whole land in front of you? Let’s separate. If you go to the left, I’ll go to the right. If you go to the right, I’ll go to the left.’10Lot looked around. He saw that the whole River Jordan valley towards the town of Zoar had plenty of water. It was like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt. This was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.11So Lot chose the whole River Jordan valley for himself. Then he started out towards the east. The two men separated.12Abram lived in the land of Canaan. Lot lived among the cities of the River Jordan valley. He set up his tents near Sodom.13The people of Sodom were evil. They were sinning greatly against the LORD.14The LORD spoke to Abram after Lot had left him. He said, ‘Look around from where you are. Look north and south, east and west.15I will give you all the land you see. I will give it for ever to you and your family who comes after you.16I will make them like the dust of the earth. Can dust be counted? If it can, then your family can be counted.17Go! Walk through the land. See how long and wide it is. I am giving it to you.’18So Abram went to live near the large trees of Mamre at Hebron. There he pitched his tents and built an altar to honour the LORD.
