Juda als Bürge für Benjamin

1 Die Hungersnot aber war schwer im Land. (1Mo 12,10) 2 Und es geschah, als sie das Getreide völlig aufgezehrt hatten, das sie aus Ägypten gebracht hatten, da sagte ihr Vater zu ihnen: Geht zurück, kauft uns ein wenig Nahrung! (1Mo 42,2; 1Mo 44,25) 3 Da sagte Juda zu ihm: Der Mann hat uns nachdrücklich gewarnt und gesagt: Ihr sollt mein Gesicht nicht sehen, es sei denn euer Bruder ⟨ist⟩ bei euch. (1Mo 42,15) 4 Wenn du unseren Bruder mit uns senden willst, dann wollen wir hinabziehen und dir Nahrung kaufen; 5 wenn du ihn aber nicht sendest, ziehen wir nicht hinab; denn der Mann hat zu uns gesagt: Ihr sollt mein Gesicht nicht sehen, es sei denn euer Bruder ⟨ist⟩ bei euch. (1Mo 42,15) 6 Da sagte Israel: Warum habt ihr mir das Leid angetan, dem Mann zu berichten, dass ihr noch einen Bruder habt? 7 Sie aber sagten: Der Mann erkundigte sich genau nach uns und unserer Verwandtschaft und sagte: Lebt euer Vater noch? Habt ihr ⟨noch⟩ einen Bruder? Da berichteten wir ihm, wie es sich verhält^[1]. Konnten wir denn wissen^[2], dass er sagen würde: Bringt euren Bruder herab? (1Mo 42,11; 1Mo 44,19) 8 Da sagte Juda zu seinem Vater Israel: Schicke den Jungen mit mir, so wollen wir uns aufmachen und hinziehen, dass wir leben und nicht sterben, sowohl wir als du als auch unsere Kinder^[3]. 9 Ich will Bürge für ihn sein, von meiner Hand sollst du ihn fordern; wenn ich ihn nicht zu dir bringe und ihn vor dein Gesicht stelle, will ich alle Tage vor dir schuldig sein. (1Mo 42,37; 1Mo 44,32) 10 Denn hätten wir nicht gezögert, gewiss, wir wären jetzt schon zweimal zurückgekehrt. 11 Da sagte ihr Vater Israel zu ihnen: Wenn es denn so ist, dann tut Folgendes: Nehmt vom besten Ertrag des Landes in eure Gefäße, und bringt dem Mann ein Geschenk hinab: ein wenig Balsamharz und ein wenig Traubenhonig, Tragakant und Ladanum, Pistazien und Mandeln! 12 Und nehmt doppeltes Geld in eure Hand, und bringt das Geld, das oben in eure Säcke zurückgegeben worden ist, in eurer Hand zurück! Vielleicht war es ein Irrtum. (1Mo 42,25) 13 Und nehmt euren Bruder und macht euch auf, kehrt zu dem Mann zurück! 14 Und Gott, der Allmächtige^[4], gebe euch Barmherzigkeit vor dem Mann, dass er euch euren andern Bruder und Benjamin ⟨wieder mit zurück⟩schickt. Zweite Reise der Brüder Josefs nach Ägypten mit Benjamin

15 Da nahmen die Männer dieses Geschenk und nahmen doppeltes Geld in ihre Hand und Benjamin, und machten sich auf und zogen nach Ägypten hinab. Und sie traten vor Josef. 16 Als Josef den Benjamin bei ihnen sah, sagte er zu dem, der über sein Haus war: Führe die Männer ins Haus, und schlachte Schlachtvieh und richte zu! Denn die Männer sollen mit mir zu Mittag essen. 17 Und der Mann tat, wie Josef gesagt hatte; und der Mann führte die Männer in Josefs Haus. 18 Da fürchteten sich die Männer, dass sie in Josefs Haus geführt wurden, und sagten: Um des Geldes willen, das im Anfang wieder in unsere Säcke gekommen ist, werden wir hineingebracht; man will über uns herstürzen und über uns herfallen und uns als Sklaven nehmen, samt unseren Eseln. (1Mo 42,27; 1Mo 44,8) 19 Und sie traten zu dem Mann, der über Josefs Haus war, und redeten zu ihm am Eingang des Hauses; 20 und sie sagten: Bitte, mein Herr! Wir sind im Anfang wirklich ⟨nur⟩ herabgezogen, um Nahrung zu kaufen. 21 Es geschah aber, als wir in die Herberge kamen und unsere Säcke öffneten, siehe, da war das Geld eines jeden oben in seinem Sack, unser Geld nach seinem Gewicht. Das haben wir in unserer Hand zurückgebracht. (1Mo 42,27; 1Mo 44,8) 22 Auch anderes Geld haben wir in unserer Hand herabgebracht, um Nahrungsmittel zu kaufen. Wir wissen^[6] nicht, wer unser Geld in unsere Säcke gelegt hat. 23 Und er sprach: Friede euch! Fürchtet euch nicht! Euer Gott und der Gott eures Vaters hat euch einen Schatz in eure Säcke gegeben; euer Geld ist mir zugekommen. Und er führte Simeon zu ihnen heraus. (Ri 19,20; 1Sam 25,6; 1Chr 12,19; Joh 20,19)

24 Und der Mann führte die Männer in Josefs Haus und gab ⟨ihnen⟩ Wasser, und sie wuschen ihre Füße; und er gab ihren Eseln Futter. (1Mo 18,4; 1Mo 24,32) 25 Und sie bereiteten das Geschenk zu, bis Josef am Mittag käme; denn sie hatten gehört, dass sie dort essen sollten. 26 Als Josef nach Hause kam, da brachten sie ihm das Geschenk, das in ihrer Hand war, ins Haus und warfen sich vor ihm zur Erde nieder. (1Mo 37,7) 27 Er aber fragte nach ihrem Wohlergehen und sagte: Geht es eurem alten Vater wohl, von dem ihr spracht? Lebt er noch? (1Mo 37,14; 2Mo 18,7; 2Kön 4,26) 28 Sie sagten: Es geht deinem Knecht, unserem Vater, wohl; er lebt noch. Und sie verneigten sich und warfen sich nieder. (1Mo 37,7) 29 Und er erhob seine Augen und sah seinen Bruder Benjamin, den Sohn seiner Mutter, und sagte: Ist das euer jüngster Bruder, von dem ihr zu mir gesprochen habt? Und er sprach: Gott sei dir gnädig, mein Sohn! (1Mo 35,24; 1Mo 42,13; 4Mo 6,25) 30 Und Josef eilte ⟨hinaus⟩, denn sein Innerstes wurde erregt über seinen Bruder, und er suchte ⟨einen Ort⟩, zu weinen. Und er ging in das innere Gemach und weinte dort. (1Mo 42,24) 31 Dann wusch er sein Gesicht und kam heraus, bezwang sich und sagte: Tragt das Essen auf! 32 Da trug man für ihn besonders auf und für sie besonders und für die Ägypter, die mit ihm aßen, besonders; denn die Ägypter können nicht mit den Hebräern essen, denn ein Gräuel ist das für Ägypter. (1Mo 46,34) 33 Und sie saßen vor ihm, der Erstgeborene nach seiner Erstgeburt und der Jüngste nach seiner Jugend. Da sahen die Männer einander staunend an. (1Mo 44,12) 34 Und er ließ ihnen von den Ehrengerichten vor ihm auftragen. Das Ehrengericht Benjamins aber war fünfmal größer als die Ehrengerichte von ihnen allen. Und sie tranken mit ihm und berauschten sich. (1Mo 45,22; 1Sam 1,5)

1 And the famine was sore in the land. 2 And it came to pass, when they had eaten up the corn which they had brought out of Egypt, their father said unto them, Go again, buy us a little food. 3 And Judah spake unto him, saying, The man did solemnly protest unto us, saying, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you. 4 If thou wilt send our brother with us, we will go down and buy thee food: 5 But if thou wilt not send him , we will not go down: for the man said unto us, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you. 6 And Israel said, Wherefore dealt ye so ill with me, as to tell the man whether ye had yet a brother? 7 And they said, The man asked us straitly of our state, and of our kindred, saying, Is your father yet alive? have ye another brother? and we told him according to the tenor of these words: could we certainly know that he would say, Bring your brother down? 8 And Judah said unto Israel his father, Send the lad with me, and we will arise and go; that we may live, and not die, both we, and thou, and also our little ones. 9 I will be surety for him; of my hand shalt thou require him: if I bring him not unto thee, and set him before thee, then let me bear the blame for ever: 10 For except we had lingered, surely now we had returned this second time. 11 And their father Israel said unto them, If it must be so now, do this; take of the best fruits in the land in your vessels, and carry down the man a present, a little balm, and a little honey, spices, and myrrh, nuts, and almonds: 12 And take double money in your hand; and the money that was brought again in the mouth of your sacks, carry it again in your hand; peradventure it was an oversight: 13 Take also your brother, and arise, go again unto the man: 14 And God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may send away your other brother, and Benjamin. If I be bereaved of my children , I am bereaved. 15 And the men took that present, and they took double money in their hand, and Benjamin; and rose up, and went down to Egypt, and stood before Joseph. 16 And when Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to the ruler of his house, Bring these men home, and slay, and make ready; for these men shall dine with me at noon. 17 And the man did as Joseph bade; and the man brought the men into Joseph' house. 18 And the men were afraid, because they were brought into Joseph' house; and they said, Because of the money that was returned in our sacks at the first time are we brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, and fall upon us, and take us for bondmen, and our asses. 19 And they came near to the steward of Joseph' house, and they communed with him at the door of the house, 20 And said, O sir, we came indeed down at the first time to buy food: 21 And it came to pass, when we came to the inn, that we opened our sacks, and, behold, every man' money was in the mouth of his sack, our money in full weight: and we have brought it again in our hand. 22 And other money have we brought down in our hands to buy food: we cannot tell who put our money in our sacks. 23 And he said, Peace be to you, fear not: your God, and the God of your father, hath given you treasure in your sacks: I had your money. And he brought Simeon out unto them. 24 And the man brought the men into Joseph' house, and gave them water, and they washed their feet; and he gave their asses provender. 25 And they made ready the present against Joseph came at noon: for they heard that they should eat bread there. 26 And when Joseph came home, they brought him the present which was in their hand into the house, and bowed themselves to him to the earth. 27 And he asked them of their welfare, and said, Is your father well, the old man of whom ye spake? Is he yet alive? 28 And they answered, Thy servant our father is in good health, he is yet alive. And they bowed down their heads, and made obeisance. 29 And he lifted up his eyes, and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother' son, and said, Is this your younger brother, of whom ye spake unto me? And he said, God be gracious unto thee, my son. 30 And Joseph made haste; for his bowels did yearn upon his brother: and he sought where to weep; and he entered into his chamber, and wept there. 31 And he washed his face, and went out, and refrained himself, and said, Set on bread. 32 And they set on for him by himself, and for them by themselves, and for the Egyptians, which did eat with him, by themselves: because the Egyptians might not eat bread with the Hebrews; for that is an abomination unto the Egyptians. 33 And they sat before him, the firstborn according to his birthright, and the youngest according to his youth: and the men marvelled one at another. 34 And he took and sent messes unto them from before him: but Benjamin' mess was five times so much as any of theirs. And they drank, and were merry with him.
