Josef im Haus des Potifar

1 Und Josef war nach Ägypten hinabgeführt worden. Und Potifar, ein Kämmerer des Pharao, der Oberste der Leibwächter, ein Ägypter, kaufte ihn aus der Hand der Ismaeliter, die ihn dorthin hinabgeführt hatten. (1Mo 37,28) 2 Der HERR aber war mit Josef, und er war ein Mann, dem alles gelang^[1]; und er blieb im Haus seines ägyptischen Herrn. 4 da fand Josef Gunst in seinen Augen, und er bediente ihn ⟨persönlich⟩. Und er bestellte ihn über sein Haus, und alles, was er besaß, gab er in seine Hand. (1Mo 39,21; 1Mo 41,40; 1Sam 2,26; 1Sam 16,22; Est 2,9; Spr 3,4)

5 Und es geschah, seitdem er ihn über sein Haus bestellt hatte und über alles, was er besaß, da segnete der HERR das Haus des Ägypters um Josefs willen; und der Segen des HERRN war auf allem, was er hatte, im Haus und auf dem Feld. (1Mo 30,27) 6 Und er überließ alles, was er hatte, der Hand Josefs und kümmerte sich bei ihm um gar nichts, außer um das Brot^[2], das er aß. Josef aber war schön von Gestalt und schön von Aussehen. (1Sam 16,12) 7 Und es geschah nach diesen Dingen, da warf die Frau seines Herrn ihre Augen auf Josef und sagte: Liege bei mir! (Spr 6,26; 2Petr 2,14) 8 Er aber weigerte sich und sagte zu der Frau seines Herrn: Siehe, mein Herr kümmert sich um^[3] nichts bei mir im Haus; und alles, was er besitzt, hat er in meine Hand gegeben. (Spr 2,16) 9 Er ⟨selbst⟩ ist in diesem Haus nicht größer als ich, und er hat mir gar nichts vorenthalten als nur dich, weil du seine Frau bist. Wie sollte ich dieses große Unrecht tun und gegen Gott sündigen? (2Mo 20,14; Pred 7,26) 10 Und es geschah, obwohl sie Tag für Tag auf Josef einredete, hörte er nicht auf sie, bei ihr zu liegen, mit ihr ⟨zusammen⟩ zu sein. (Spr 23,27) 11 Da geschah es an einem solchen Tag^[4], dass er ins Haus kam, um sein Geschäft zu besorgen, als ⟨gerade⟩ kein Mensch von den Leuten des Hauses dort im Haus war, 12 da ergriff sie ihn bei seinem Gewand und sagte: Liege bei mir! Er aber ließ sein Gewand in ihrer Hand, floh und lief hinaus. (2Sam 13,11; 2Tim 2,22) 13 Und es geschah, als sie sah, dass er sein Gewand in ihrer Hand gelassen hatte und hinausgeflohen war, 14 da rief sie die Leute ihres Hauses und sagte zu ihnen: Seht, er hat uns einen hebräischen Mann hergebracht, Mutwillen^[5] mit uns zu treiben. Er ist zu mir gekommen, um bei mir zu liegen, aber ich habe mit lauter Stimme gerufen. 15 Und es geschah, als er hörte, dass ich meine Stimme erhob und rief, da ließ er sein Gewand neben mir und floh und lief hinaus. (Ps 64,6) 16 Und sie ließ sein Gewand neben sich liegen, bis sein Herr nach Hause kam. 17 Da redete sie zu ihm mit^[6] denselben Worten: Der hebräische Sklave, den du uns hergebracht hast, ist zu mir gekommen, um Mutwillen^[7] mit mir zu treiben; (2Mo 23,1) 18 und es geschah, als ich meine Stimme erhob und rief, da ließ er sein Gewand neben mir und floh hinaus.

19 Und es geschah, als sein Herr die Worte seiner Frau hörte, die sie zu ihm redete, indem sie sagte: Nach diesen Worten hat mir dein Sklave getan; da entbrannte sein Zorn. (Spr 6,34) 20 Und Josefs Herr nahm ihn und legte ihn ins Gefängnis, an den Ort, wo die Gefangenen des Königs gefangen lagen; und er war dort im Gefängnis. (1Mo 40,3; Ps 105,18; 1Petr 2,19) 21 Der HERR aber war mit Josef und wandte sich ihm ⟨in⟩ Treue zu^[8] und gab ihm Gunst in den Augen des Obersten des Gefängnisses. (1Mo 39,2; 1Mo 39,4; Dan 1,9) 22 Und der Oberste des Gefängnisses übergab alle Gefangenen, die im Gefängnis waren, der Hand Josefs; und alles, was man dort tat, das veranlasste er^[9]. (1Mo 40,4) 23 Der Oberste des Gefängnisses sah nicht nach dem Geringsten, das unter seiner Hand war, weil der HERR mit ihm war; und was er tat, ließ der HERR gelingen.

1 And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ishmeelites, which had brought him down thither. 2 And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. 3 And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand. 4 And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand. 5 And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian' house for Joseph' sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field. 6 And he left all that he had in Joseph' hand; and he knew not ought he had, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was a goodly person , and well favoured. 7 And it came to pass after these things, that his master' wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me. 8 But he refused, and said unto his master' wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand; 9 There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God? 10 And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her. 11 And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within. 12 And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out. 13 And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and was fled forth, 14 That she called unto the men of her house, and spake unto them, saying, See, he hath brought in an Hebrew unto us to mock us; he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice: 15 And it came to pass, when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled, and got him out. 16 And she laid up his garment by her, until his lord came home. 17 And she spake unto him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant, which thou hast brought unto us, came in unto me to mock me: 18 And it came to pass, as I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled out. 19 And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spake unto him, saying, After this manner did thy servant to me; that his wrath was kindled. 20 And Joseph' master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king' prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison. 21 But the LORD was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison. 22 And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph' hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatsoever they did there, he was the doer of it . 23 The keeper of the prison looked not to any thing that was under his hand; because the LORD was with him, and that which he did, the LORD made it to prosper.
