1 Dem Chorleiter. Ein Maskil^[1]. Von David. 2 Als Doëg, der Edomiter, kam und dem Saul berichtete und ihm sagte: David ist in das Haus Ahimelechs gekommen. (1Sam 22,9) 3 Was rühmst du dich der Bosheit, du Gewaltiger? Die Gnade Gottes ⟨währt⟩ den ganzen Tag. 4 Verderben plant deine Zunge, wie ein geschliffenes Schermesser, ⟨du⟩ Lügner^[2]. (Ps 50,19; Ps 140,4) 5 Du hast das Böse mehr geliebt als das Gute, die Lüge mehr als gerechtes Reden. // 6 Du hast alle Worte des Verderbens geliebt, ⟨du⟩ betrügerische^[3] Zunge! (Ps 120,2) 7 Gott wird dich auch zerstören für immer; er wird dich niederschlagen und herausreißen aus dem Zelt und entwurzeln aus dem Land der Lebendigen. // (Spr 2,22) 8 Und sehen werden es die Gerechten und sich fürchten, und sie werden über ihn lachen: (Ps 58,11; Apg 5,11) 9 »Siehe, der Mann machte nicht Gott zu seinem Schutz^[4], sondern vertraute auf die Größe seines Reichtums, durch sein Schadentun war er stark!« 10 Ich aber bin wie ein grüner Olivenbaum im Hause Gottes; ich vertraue auf die Gnade Gottes immer und ewig. (Ps 92,14) 11 Ich werde dich ewig preisen, weil du es getan hast; und auf deinen Namen – denn er ist gut – werde ich harren vor deinen Getreuen. (Ps 54,8)

1 To the chief Musician, Maschil, A Psalm of David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, and said unto him, David is come to the house of Ahimelech. Why boastest thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man? the goodness of God endureth continually. 2 Thy tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully. 3 Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah. 4 Thou lovest all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue. 5 God shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah. 6 The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him: 7 Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness. 8 But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever. 9 I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it : and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints.

1 Au chef de chœur: une méditation^[1] de David, 2 qu’il composa lorsque Doëg l’Edomite vint informer Saül que David était entré dans la maison d’Ahimélek^[2]. (1Sam 21,8; 1Sam 22,9) 3 Toi qui es fort, ╵qu’as-tu à te vanter ╵de ta méchanceté? Vois: la bonté de Dieu ╵se manifeste chaque jour. 4 Ta langue trame des projets ╵de destruction, c’est un rasoir bien affilé, ╵elle est habile pour tromper. 5 Tu as donné ta préférence ╵au mal plutôt qu’au bien, tu as préféré le mensonge ╵à la sincérité. Pause 6 Tu aimes les mots qui détruisent, ta langue n’est que tromperie. 7 C’est pourquoi Dieu te détruira ╵définitivement. Il te saisira dans ta tente, ╵et il t’en chassera, il arrachera tes racines ╵du pays des vivants. Pause 8 Alors les justes le verront ╵et ils seront saisis de crainte, ils se riront de toi: 9 « Le voici, l’homme ╵qui ne prenait pas Dieu ╵pour forteresse, celui qui se fiait ╵à ses grandes richesses et qui se croyait fort ╵par ses actes destructeurs^[3]! » 10 Mais moi, je suis comme un olivier verdoyant ╵dans la maison de Dieu. Je compte sur l’amour de Dieu ╵à toujours, à jamais. 11 Je te célébrerai toujours ╵pour ce que tu as fait. Je veux m’attendre à toi, car ta bonté se manifeste ╵à ceux qui te sont attachés.
