1Und die Söhne Israel taten weiter, was böse war in den Augen des HERRN. Da gab sie der HERR vierzig Jahre in die Hand der Philister. (Ri 2,11; Ri 10,7; Ri 14,4; 1Sam 4,9)2Da war nun ein Mann aus Zora, von einer Sippe der Daniter, sein Name war Manoach. Seine Frau aber war unfruchtbar und gebar nicht. (1Mo 11,30; 1Mo 49,16; Jos 15,33; 1Chr 2,53)3Und der Engel des HERRN erschien der Frau und sprach zu ihr: Sieh doch, du bist unfruchtbar und gebierst nicht; aber du wirst schwanger werden und einen Sohn gebären. (1Mo 18,10; Ri 6,12; Lk 1,11; Lk 1,13)4Und nun, nimm dich ja in Acht und trinke weder Wein noch Rauschtrank und iss ja nichts Unreines! (4Mo 6,2)5Denn siehe, du wirst schwanger werden und einen Sohn gebären. Ein Schermesser soll nicht auf sein Haupt kommen, denn ein Nasiräer[1] Gottes soll der Junge sein vom Mutterleib an. Er aber wird anfangen, Israel aus der Hand der Philister zu retten. (Ri 16,17; 1Sam 1,11; Gal 1,15)6Und die Frau kam und sprach zu ihrem Mann und sagte: Ein Mann Gottes ist zu mir gekommen, und sein Aussehen war wie das Aussehen des Engels Gottes, sehr furchtbar. Ich habe ihn aber nicht gefragt, woher er sei, und seinen Namen hat er mir nicht genannt. (1Sam 2,27; 1Kön 17,18; Apg 6,15; Apg 10,3)7Und er sagte zu mir: Siehe, du wirst schwanger werden und einen Sohn gebären. Und nun, trinke weder Wein noch Rauschtrank und iss nichts Unreines; denn ein Nasiräer[2] Gottes soll der Junge sein vom Mutterleib an bis zum Tag seines Todes. (Am 2,11)8Da betete Manoach zu dem HERRN und sagte: Bitte, Herr, der Mann Gottes, den du gesandt hast, möge doch noch einmal zu uns kommen und uns lehren, was wir tun sollen mit dem Jungen, der geboren werden soll.9Und Gott hörte auf die Stimme Manoachs. Und der Engel Gottes kam noch einmal zu der Frau, als sie gerade auf dem Feld saß und Manoach, ihr Mann, nicht bei ihr war. (1Joh 5,14)10Da beeilte sich die Frau, lief, berichtete es ihrem Mann und sagte zu ihm: Siehe, der Mann ist mir erschienen, der an jenem Tag zu mir gekommen ist!11Da machte sich Manoach auf und folgte seiner Frau. Und er kam zu dem Mann und sagte zu ihm: Bist du der Mann, der zu der Frau geredet hat? Er sagte: Ich bin es.12Und Manoach sagte: Nun, ⟨wenn⟩ dein Wort eintrifft, was soll die ⟨Lebens⟩weise des Jungen und sein Tun sein? (Ps 143,8)13Da sprach der Engel des HERRN zu Manoach: Vor allem, was ich der Frau gesagt habe, soll sie sich hüten.14Von allem, was vom Weinstock kommt, soll sie nicht essen, und Wein und Rauschtrank soll sie nicht trinken, und sie soll nichts Unreines essen. Alles, was ich ihr geboten habe, soll sie beachten. (4Mo 6,2)15Und Manoach sagte zu dem Engel des HERRN: Wir hätten dich gern zurückgehalten und dir ein Ziegenböckchen zubereitet. (Ri 6,18)16Doch der Engel des HERRN sprach zu Manoach: Wenn du mich auch aufhieltest, ich würde nicht von deinem Brot essen. Willst du aber ein Brandopfer zubereiten, opfere es dem HERRN! Manoach hatte nämlich nicht erkannt, dass es der Engel des HERRN war.17Da sagte Manoach zum Engel des HERRN: Wie[3] ist dein Name? Wenn dein Wort eintrifft, möchten wir dich ehren.18Doch der Engel des HERRN sprach zu ihm: Warum fragst du denn nach meinem Namen? Er ist zu wunderbar! (1Mo 32,30; Neh 9,5; Jes 9,5)19Da nahm Manoach das Ziegenböckchen und das Speisopfer und opferte es dem HERRN auf dem Felsen. Er aber vollbrachte Wunderbares[4], und Manoach und seine Frau sahen zu.20Es geschah nämlich, als die Flamme vom Altar zum Himmel emporstieg, da fuhr der Engel des HERRN in der Flamme des Altars hinauf. Manoach aber und seine Frau sahen zu und fielen auf ihr Angesicht zur Erde. (3Mo 9,24; Ri 6,19; 1Chr 21,16; Hes 1,28)21Der Engel des HERRN aber erschien Manoach und seiner Frau danach nicht mehr. Da ⟨erst⟩ erkannte Manoach, dass es der Engel des HERRN war.22Und Manoach sagte zu seiner Frau: Ganz sicher müssen wir ⟨jetzt⟩ sterben, denn wir haben Gott gesehen! (2Mo 3,6; 2Mo 24,10; Ri 6,22)23Aber seine Frau sagte zu ihm: Wenn es dem HERRN gefallen hätte, uns zu töten, so hätte er aus unserer Hand nicht Brandopfer und Speisopfer angenommen, und er hätte uns nicht dies alles sehen lassen und uns jetzt nicht so etwas hören lassen. (Ps 20,4)24Und die Frau gebar einen Sohn und gab ihm den Namen Simson. Und der Junge wuchs heran, und der HERR segnete ihn. (1Sam 2,21; Lk 1,80; Hebr 11,32)25Und der Geist des HERRN fing an, ihn zu treiben in Machaneh-Dan[5] zwischen Zora und Eschtaol. (Jos 19,41; Ri 3,10; Ri 16,31; Ri 18,2; Ri 18,12)

So then drink no wine or strong drink, and eat nothing unclean, for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb to the day of his death.’” (Ri 13,3)8Then Manoah prayed to the LORD and said, “O Lord, please let the man of God whom you sent come again to us and teach us what we are to do with the child who will be born.”9And God listened to the voice of Manoah, and the angel of God came again to the woman as she sat in the field. But Manoah her husband was not with her.10So the woman ran quickly and told her husband, “Behold, the man who came to me the other day has appeared to me.”11And Manoah arose and went after his wife and came to the man and said to him, “Are you the man who spoke to this woman?” And he said, “I am.”12And Manoah said, “Now when your words come true, what is to be the child’s manner of life, and what is his mission?” (Lk 1,66)13And the angel of the LORD said to Manoah, “Of all that I said to the woman let her be careful.14She may not eat of anything that comes from the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, or eat any unclean thing. All that I commanded her let her observe.” (Ri 13,4)15Manoah said to the angel of the LORD, “Please let us detain you and prepare a young goat for you.” (1Mo 18,5; Ri 6,19)16And the angel of the LORD said to Manoah, “If you detain me, I will not eat of your food. But if you prepare a burnt offering, then offer it to the LORD.” (For Manoah did not know that he was the angel of the LORD.)17And Manoah said to the angel of the LORD, “What is your name, so that, when your words come true, we may honor you?” (Ri 13,6)18And the angel of the LORD said to him, “Why do you ask my name, seeing it is wonderful?” (1Mo 32,29; Jes 9,6)19So Manoah took the young goat with the grain offering, and offered it on the rock to the LORD, to the one who works[1] wonders, and Manoah and his wife were watching. (Ri 6,19)20And when the flame went up toward heaven from the altar, the angel of the LORD went up in the flame of the altar. Now Manoah and his wife were watching, and they fell on their faces to the ground. (3Mo 9,24; 1Chr 21,16; Hes 1,28)21The angel of the LORD appeared no more to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was the angel of the LORD. (Ri 6,22)22And Manoah said to his wife, “We shall surely die, for we have seen God.” (Ri 13,21)23But his wife said to him, “If the LORD had meant to kill us, he would not have accepted a burnt offering and a grain offering at our hands, or shown us all these things, or now announced to us such things as these.”24And the woman bore a son and called his name Samson. And the young man grew, and the LORD blessed him. (1Sam 2,21; 1Sam 3,19; Lk 1,80; Lk 2,52)25And the Spirit of the LORD began to stir him in Mahaneh-dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol. (Jos 15,33; Ri 3,10; Ri 18,11)
