Erfreulicher Bericht des Timotheus aus Thessalonich

1 Deshalb, da wir es nicht länger aushalten konnten, beschlossen wir, allein in Athen zurückzubleiben, (Apg 17,14) 2 und wir sandten Timotheus, unseren Bruder und Mitarbeiter Gottes in dem Evangelium des Christus, um euch zu stärken und zu trösten^[1] eures Glaubens wegen, (Apg 16,5; Röm 16,21; Phil 2,19; 1Thess 1,1)

3 dass niemand wankend wird in diesen Bedrängnissen. – Denn ihr selbst wisst, dass wir dazu bestimmt sind; (Joh 16,33; Apg 14,22; Eph 3,13; 1Thess 1,6)

4 denn auch als wir bei euch waren, sagten wir euch vorher, dass wir bedrängt sein würden, wie es auch geschehen ist und ihr wisst. – (Apg 17,6; 1Petr 4,12) 5 Darum, da auch ich es nicht länger aushalten konnte, sandte ich ⟨ihn⟩, um euren Glauben zu erfahren, ob nicht etwa der Versucher euch versucht hat und unsere Arbeit^[2] vergeblich gewesen ist. (Gal 4,11) 6 Da jetzt aber Timotheus von euch zu uns gekommen ist und uns die gute Botschaft brachte^[3] von eurem Glauben und eurer Liebe, und dass ihr uns allezeit in gutem Andenken habt und sehr verlangt, uns zu sehen, wie auch wir euch: (Apg 18,5; 1Thess 2,17; 2Thess 1,3; Hebr 13,7)

7 Deswegen, Brüder, sind wir über euch bei all unserer Not und Bedrängnis getröstet worden durch euren Glauben; (2Kor 7,4; Phlm 1,7) 8 denn jetzt leben wir ⟨wieder auf⟩, wenn ihr fest steht im Herrn. (Phil 4,1; Kol 2,5)

1 Perciò, non potendo più resistere, preferimmo restare soli ad Atene; 2 e mandammo Timoteo, nostro fratello e collaboratore di Dio nel vangelo di Cristo, per confermarvi e confortarvi nella vostra fede, 3 affinché nessuno fosse scosso in mezzo a queste tribolazioni; infatti voi stessi sapete che a questo siamo destinati. 4 Perché anche quando eravamo tra di voi, vi preannunciavamo che avremmo dovuto soffrire, come poi è avvenuto, e voi lo sapete. 5 Perciò anch’io, non potendo più resistere, mandai a informarmi della vostra fede, temendo che il tentatore vi avesse tentati, e la nostra fatica fosse risultata vana. 6 Ma ora Timoteo è ritornato e ci ha recato buone notizie della vostra fede e del vostro amore, e ci ha detto che conservate sempre un buon ricordo di noi e desiderate vederci, come anche noi desideriamo vedere voi. 7 Per questa ragione, fratelli, siamo stati consolati a vostro riguardo, a motivo della vostra fede, pur fra tutte le nostre angustie e afflizioni; 8 perché ora, se state saldi nel Signore, ci sentiamo rivivere. 9 Come potremmo, infatti, esprimere a Dio la nostra gratitudine a vostro riguardo, per la gioia che ci date davanti al nostro Dio, 10 mentre notte e giorno preghiamo intensamente di poter vedere il vostro volto e di colmare le lacune della vostra fede? 11 Ora Dio stesso, nostro Padre, e il nostro Signore Gesù ci appianino la via per venire da voi; 12 e quanto a voi, il Signore vi faccia crescere e abbondare in amore gli uni verso gli altri e verso tutti, come anche noi abbondiamo verso di voi, 13 per rendere i vostri cuori saldi, irreprensibili in santità davanti a Dio nostro Padre, quando il nostro Signore Gesù verrà con tutti i suoi santi^[1].
