— Poslední slova Jeremjášova v Egyptě - Prorok vytýká utečencům jejich modlářství, ale ti v něm setrvávají a od Hospodina nic nečekají.
1 Slovo, které se stalo k Jeremjášovi pro všechny Judejce, kteří bydleli v egyptské zemi, kteří bydleli v Migdólu, Tachpanchésu, Memfidě a v zemi Patrósu:2 „Toto praví Hospodin zástupů, Bůh Izraele: Viděli jste všechno zlo, které jsem uvedl na Jeruzalém a na všechna judská města. Hle, jsou to dnes jen trosky, nikdo v nich nebydlí,3 a to pro jejich zlé skutky, které páchali. Uráželi mě, když chodili pálit kadidlo a sloužit jiným bohům, které neznali oni ani vy ani vaši otcové.4 Posílal jsem k vám všechny své služebníky proroky, nepřetržitě jsem je posílal se vzkazem: ‚Nedopouštějte se té ohavnosti, kterou nenávidím!‘5 Ale neposlechli a nenaklonili své ucho, aby se odvrátili od svých zlých skutků a nepálili kadidlo jiným bohům.6 Proto se vylilo mé rozhořčení a můj hněv a hořel v městech judských a na ulicích Jeruzaléma, takže se staly troskami a zpustošeným krajem, jak je tomu dodnes.“ 7 Nyní toto praví Hospodin, Bůh zástupů, Bůh Izraele: „Proč sami sobě působíte tak veliké zlo? Vytínáte ze společenství Judy muže i ženu, nemluvně i kojence, takže vám nezbude ani pozůstatek lidu.8 Urážíte mě výtvory svých rukou, když pálíte kadidlo jiným bohům v zemi egyptské, kam jste vstoupili, abyste tam pobývali jako hosté. Vytínáte sami sebe a stanete se zlořečením a potupou mezi všemi pronárody země.9 Což jste zapomněli na zlé skutky svých otců a na zlé skutky judských králů a na zlé skutky jejich žen i na zlé skutky své a na zlé skutky svých žen, jichž jste se dopouštěli v zemi judské a v ulicích Jeruzaléma?10 Dodnes nejsou zkrušeni, nebojí se, neřídí se mým zákonem ani mými nařízeními, která jsem předložil vám a vašim otcům. 11 Proto Hospodin zástupů, Bůh Izraele, praví toto: Hle, zaměřím se na vás, ale ke zlému, a celého Judu vytnu.12 Vezmu pozůstatek judského lidu, ty, kteří pojali úmysl vstoupit do egyptské země, aby tam pobývali jako hosté: Všichni v egyptské zemi zajdou, padnou mečem či hladem, zajdou malí i velcí, zemřou mečem a hladem a stanou se kletbou, úděsem, zlořečením a potupou.13 Ty, kdo se usadili v egyptské zemi, ztrestám mečem, hladem či morem, jako jsem ztrestal Jeruzalém.14 Nevyvázne a nepřežije nikdo z pozůstatku judského lidu, z těch, kteří přišli do egyptské země, aby tam pobývali jako hosté. Nevrátí se do země judské, ačkoli celou duší prahnou po tom, aby se mohli vrátit a bydlet tam. Nevrátí se, jen někteří vyváznou.“ 15 Nato odpověděli Jeremjášovi všichni muži, kteří věděli, že jejich ženy pálívaly kadidlo jiným bohům, i všechny ženy, které tu stály – bylo jich veliké shromáždění –, všechen lid, který pobýval v Patrósu v egyptské zemi:16 „V tom, co jsi nám mluvil ve jménu Hospodinově, tě neposlechneme.17 Určitě však splníme všechno, co vyšlo z našich úst, že budeme pálit kadidlo královně nebes a že jí budeme přinášet úlitby tak, jak jsme to dělávali my i naši otcové, naši králové i velmožové v městech judských a na ulicích Jeruzaléma. Tehdy jsme měli chleba dosyta, bylo nám dobře, nic zlého jsme nezakoušeli.18 Od té doby, kdy jsme přestali pálit kadidlo královně nebes a přinášet jí úlitby, máme nedostatek ve všem a hyneme mečem a hladem.“19 Ženy dodaly: „Jestliže pálíme kadidlo královně nebes a přinášíme jí úlitby, cožpak jí bez vědomí svých mužů pečeme obětní koláče, jimiž ji zpodobňujeme, a přinášíme jí úlitby?“ 20 Jeremjáš řekl všemu lidu, mužům, ženám i všemu lidu, kteří s ním vedli rozhovor:21 „Cožpak si Hospodin nepřipomněl ten obětní dým z kadidla, jež jste pálili v městech judských a na ulicích Jeruzaléma vy i vaši otcové, vaši králové a vaši velmožové i lid země? Nepřišlo mu to na mysl?22 Hospodin už nemohl snést vaše zlé skutky a vaše ohavnosti, jichž jste se dopouštěli. Proto se vaše země stala troskami, úděsem a zlořečením, bez obyvatele, jak je tomu dnes.23 Protože jste pálili kadidlo a hřešili proti Hospodinu a neposlouchali Hospodina, že jste se neřídili jeho zákonem, jeho nařízeními ani jeho svědectvím, potkalo vás toto zlo, jak je tomu dnes.“ 24 A Jeremjáš řekl všemu lidu a všem ženám: „Slyšte slovo Hospodinovo, celý Judo v egyptské zemi.25 Toto praví Hospodin zástupů, Bůh Izraele: Vy i vaše ženy, co jste svými ústy vyslovili, to jste svýma rukama naplnili. Řekli jste: ‚Splníme sliby, které jsme dali. Budeme pálit kadidlo královně nebes a budeme jí přinášet úlitby.‘ Tak si tedy dodržujte své sliby, vyplňujte své sliby! 26 Ale slyšte slovo Hospodinovo, všechen Judo, který pobýváš v egyptské zemi: Hle, zapřisáhl jsem se při svém velikém jménu, praví Hospodin, že mé jméno už nebude vzýváno v celém Egyptě ústy žádného judského muže, který by říkal: ‚Jakože živ je Panovník Hospodin!‘27 Hle, budu nad nimi bdít ke zlému, a ne k dobrému. Všichni judští muži, kteří jsou v egyptské zemi, do jednoho zajdou mečem a hladem.28 Jen hrstka lidí unikne meči a vrátí se z egyptské země do země judské. A celý pozůstatek judského lidu, který přišel do egyptské země, aby tam pobýval jako host, pozná, čí slovo obstojí, zda mé či jejich.29 A toto budete mít jako znamení, je výrok Hospodinův: Na tomto místě vás ztrestám, a tak poznáte, že má slova proti vám obstojí, vám ke zlému. 30 Toto praví Hospodin: Hle, vydám faraóna Chofru, krále egyptského, do rukou jeho nepřátel, do rukou těch, kteří mu ukládají o život, jako jsem vydal Sidkijáše, krále judského, do rukou Nebúkadnesara, krále babylónského, jeho nepřítele, který mu ukládal o život.“
1The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Judeans who lived in the land of Egypt, at Migdol, at Tahpanhes, at Memphis, and in the land of Pathros, (Ex 14,2; Iz 11,11; Jr 43,7; Jr 44,15; Jr 46,14)2“Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: You have seen all the disaster that I brought upon Jerusalem and upon all the cities of Judah. Behold, this day they are a desolation, and no one dwells in them, (Jr 44,6)3because of the evil that they committed, provoking me to anger, in that they went to make offerings and serve other gods that they knew not, neither they, nor you, nor your fathers. (Dt 6,14; Jr 1,16; Jr 7,18; Jr 19,4; Jr 44,8)4Yet I persistently sent to you all my servants the prophets, saying, ‘Oh, do not do this abomination that I hate!’ (2Pa 36,15)5But they did not listen or incline their ear, to turn from their evil and make no offerings to other gods. (Jr 34,14)6Therefore my wrath and my anger were poured out and kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, and they became a waste and a desolation, as at this day. (Jr 7,20; Jr 7,34; Jr 9,11)7And now thus says the Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel: Why do you commit this great evil against yourselves, to cut off from you man and woman, infant and child, from the midst of Judah, leaving you no remnant? (Nu 16,38; Př 20,2; Jr 38,23; Pl 2,11; Abk 2,10)8Why do you provoke me to anger with the works of your hands, making offerings to other gods in the land of Egypt where you have come to live, so that you may be cut off and become a curse and a taunt among all the nations of the earth? (Jr 18,16; Jr 42,18; Jr 44,3)9Have you forgotten the evil of your fathers, the evil of the kings of Judah, the evil of their[1] wives, your own evil, and the evil of your wives, which they committed in the land of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem? (1Kr 11,1; 1Kr 11,8; 1Kr 15,13; 2Kr 11,1; Jr 15,4; Jr 44,15; Jr 44,25)10They have not humbled themselves even to this day, nor have they feared, nor walked in my law and my statutes that I set before you and before your fathers. (Př 28,14)11“Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will set my face against you for harm, to cut off all Judah. (Jr 21,10)12I will take the remnant of Judah who have set their faces to come to the land of Egypt to live, and they shall all be consumed. In the land of Egypt they shall fall; by the sword and by famine they shall be consumed. From the least to the greatest, they shall die by the sword and by famine, and they shall become an oath, a horror, a curse, and a taunt. (Jr 6,13; Jr 18,16; Jr 42,15; Jr 42,16; Jr 44,8)13I will punish those who dwell in the land of Egypt, as I have punished Jerusalem, with the sword, with famine, and with pestilence, (Jr 43,11)14so that none of the remnant of Judah who have come to live in the land of Egypt shall escape or survive or return to the land of Judah, to which they desire to return to dwell there. For they shall not return, except some fugitives.” (Jr 22,27; Jr 42,17; Jr 44,28)15Then all the men who knew that their wives had made offerings to other gods, and all the women who stood by, a great assembly, all the people who lived in Pathros in the land of Egypt, answered Jeremiah: (Jr 44,1; Jr 44,9; Jr 44,25)16“As for the word that you have spoken to us in the name of the Lord, we will not listen to you. (Jr 6,16; Jr 42,13)17But we will do everything that we have vowed, make offerings to the queen of heaven and pour out drink offerings to her, as we did, both we and our fathers, our kings and our officials, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. For then we had plenty of food, and prospered, and saw no disaster. (Sd 11,36; 1Kr 11,33; 2Kr 21,3; Jr 7,18; Jr 19,13)18But since we left off making offerings to the queen of heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have lacked everything and have been consumed by the sword and by famine.” (Jr 44,17; Pl 3,22)19And the women said,[2] “When we made offerings to the queen of heaven and poured out drink offerings to her, was it without our husbands’ approval that we made cakes for her bearing her image and poured out drink offerings to her?” (Nu 30,6; Jr 7,18)20Then Jeremiah said to all the people, men and women, all the people who had given him this answer: (Jr 43,6)21“As for the offerings that you offered in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, you and your fathers, your kings and your officials, and the people of the land, did not the Lord remember them? Did it not come into his mind? (Jr 44,17; Ez 8,10; Ez 21,24)22The Lord could no longer bear your evil deeds and the abominations that you committed. Therefore your land has become a desolation and a waste and a curse, without inhabitant, as it is this day. (Jr 4,7; Jr 5,9; Jr 5,29; Jr 7,34; Jr 18,16; Ez 8,6)23It is because you made offerings and because you sinned against the Lord and did not obey the voice of the Lord or walk in his law and in his statutes and in his testimonies that this disaster has happened to you, as at this day.” (Dt 31,29; Jr 40,3)24Jeremiah said to all the people and all the women, “Hear the word of the Lord, all you of Judah who are in the land of Egypt. (Jr 43,5; Jr 44,15)25Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: You and your wives have declared with your mouths, and have fulfilled it with your hands, saying, ‘We will surely perform our vows that we have made, to make offerings to the queen of heaven and to pour out drink offerings to her.’ Then confirm your vows and perform your vows! (Jr 44,16; Jr 44,17)26Therefore hear the word of the Lord, all you of Judah who dwell in the land of Egypt: Behold, I have sworn by my great name, says the Lord, that my name shall no more be invoked by the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, ‘As the Lord God lives.’ (Jr 4,2; Jr 22,5; Jr 44,24; Ez 20,39)27Behold, I am watching over them for disaster and not for good. All the men of Judah who are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by famine, until there is an end of them. (Jr 31,28; Jr 42,16)28And those who escape the sword shall return from the land of Egypt to the land of Judah, few in number; and all the remnant of Judah, who came to the land of Egypt to live, shall know whose word will stand, mine or theirs. (Iz 27,13; Jr 44,14; Jr 44,17; Jr 44,25; Ez 6,8)29This shall be the sign to you, declares the Lord, that I will punish you in this place, in order that you may know that my words will surely stand against you for harm: (Př 19,21)30Thus says the Lord, Behold, I will give Pharaoh Hophra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies and into the hand of those who seek his life, as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, who was his enemy and sought his life.” (Jr 39,5; Jr 46,17; Jr 46,26; Ez 29,2; Ez 30,21)
