3 Toto praví Hospodin mužům judským i jeruzalémským: „Zorejte si úhor, nesejte do trní! 4 Obřežte se kvůli Hospodinu, obřežte svá neobřezaná srdce, mužové judští, obyvatelé Jeruzaléma, aby mé rozhořčení nevyšlehlo jako oheň a nehořelo a nikdo by je neuhasil, a to pro vaše zlé skutky. 5 Oznamte v Judsku, rozhlaste v Jeruzalémě, mluvte, trubte na polnici v té zemi, volejte naplno a vyřiďte: ‚Shromážděte se! Vejděme do opevněných měst.‘ 6 Vztyčte korouhev na Sijónu! Bez prodlení prchněte do bezpečí! Od severu přivedu zlo a velikou zkázu. 7 Z houštiny vystoupil lev. Ničitel pronárodů vyrazil vpřed, vyšel ze svého místa, aby z tvé země učinil spoušť. Tvá města budou vylidněna, budou bez obyvatel. 8 Proto se opásejte žíněnou suknicí, naříkejte a bědujte, neboť se od nás neodvrátil Hospodinův planoucí hněv.“ 9 „A stane se v onen den, je výrok Hospodinův, král ztratí rozvahu, ztratí rozvahu i velmožové, kněží budou naplněni děsem a proroci budou trnout.“ 10 Říkám: „Ach, Panovníku Hospodine, podvedl jsi tento lid i Jeruzalém. Jak dlouho budeš v svém nitru přechovávat ničemné myšlenky? 15 Z Danu je slyšet zprávu, z Efrajimského pohoří zlověst. 16 Hle, připomeňte pronárodům, rozhlaste po Jeruzalémě: ‚Přicházejí hlídky z daleké země, jejich hlas se rozléhá nad judskými městy. 17 Budou kolem Jeruzaléma jako ti, kdo hlídají pole, protože se proti mně vzbouřil, je výrok Hospodinův.‘ 18 Způsobí ti to tvá cesta a tvé skutky. Je to plod tvé zloby, zhořkne ti a zasáhne tvé srdce!“
— Prorok naříká nad lidem i zemí - Prorok slyší Boží rozhodnutí a vidí hrůzy, které se přivalí na jeho lid i celou zemi.
19 Nitro, mé nitro! Jak se chvěji! Srdce se mi svírá, srdce mi buší, nemohu mlčet. Slyšíš, má duše, hlas polnice, válečný ryk? 20 Zkáza za zkázou se hlásí, celá země je zpleněna. Náhle byly vypleněny mé stany, znenadání mé stanové houně. 21 Jak dlouho budu vidět korouhev, slyšet hlas polnice? 22 „Můj lid je pošetilý, nezná se ke mně, jsou to synové pomatení, nemají rozum. Jsou moudří, ale ke zlému, dobro konat nedovedou.“ 23 Viděl jsem zemi, a hle, je pustá a prázdná, nebesa jsou beze světla. 24 Viděl jsem hory, a hle, třesou se, všechny pahorky se otřásají. 25 Viděl jsem, a hle, nikde žádný člověk, i všechno nebeské ptactvo odletělo. 26 Viděl jsem, a hle, sad je pouští, všechna města v něm jsou podvrácena Hospodinem, jeho planoucím hněvem. 27 Toto praví Hospodin: „Celá země bude zpustošená, ale neskončím s ní docela. 28 Země nad tím bude truchlit, zachmuří se nebe shůry, neboť jsem vyhlásil, co mám v úmyslu, a neželím toho a od toho neupustím.“ 29 Před hřmotem jezdců a lučištníků prchá celé město, zalezli do houští, vystoupili na skaliska. Celé město je opuštěné, není žádného, kdo by v něm bydlel. 30 Ale ty, vypleněná, co to děláš? Odíváš se karmínem, zdobíš se zlatými ozdobami, líčíš si oči? Nadarmo se krášlíš, záletníci tebou pohrdají, budou ti ukládat o život. 31 Slyším křik, jako když se rodička bolestí svíjí, sténání, jako když rodí poprvé, křik dcery sijónské, po dechu lapá, rozprostírá dlaně: „Běda mi, jsem tak bezmocná, vydána vrahům!“
